LEGENDARY GUITARIST-SONGWRITER-BANDLEADER

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

John McLaughlin began his career playing blues and rock in London in the early 1960s and went on to play free jazz with important British figures before moving to the United States in 1969. There he contributed rock- and blues-derived guitar passages to Miles Davis’s early fusion albums In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew (both 1969) and played in Tony Williams’s seminal jazz-rock trio Lifetime. In 1970 he became a disciple of spiritual guru Sri Chinmoy; he acquired the name Mahavishnu and formed the Mahavishnu Orchestra in 1971. The Orchestra was initially a quintet noted for radically high volume levels, complex textures, and fast modal playing, especially by McLaughlin, in long passages of 16th-note scales and arpeggios, on a guitar with two parallel necks, one with 6 strings, the other with 12. They played concerts in rock, rather than jazz, venues and were among the handful of stars of jazz-rock fusion music; they recorded popular albums such as The Inner Mounting Flame (1971) and Visions of the Emerald Beyond (1975). The involvement of electric violinist Jean-Luc Ponty in 1974–75 enhanced the Orchestra’s popularity.

In the mid-1970s McLaughlin left Chinmoy, abandoned the name Mahavishnu, and began playing acoustic guitar in his trio Shakti, with Indian violinist L. Shankar and tabla player Zakir Hussain. His new guitar had two fretboards, one with raised strings crossing the other. McLaughlin’s improvising—with phrases from blues, rock (especially Jimi Hendrix), flamenco, jazz, and Indian music—fit readily into a variety of fusion music. He went on to play duets and trios with fellow guitar virtuosos Al DiMeola, Paco de Lucía, and Larry Coryell, to team with Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu, to play electric guitar in a revived Mahavishnu Orchestra in the mid-1980s, and to perform guitar concerti by Mike Gibbs (1985) and by himself (1990) with symphony orchestras.

McLaughlin recorded an acoustic homage to jazz pianist Bill Evans in 1993, and he returned to the electric guitar for After the Rain (1994) and The Promise (1995). His inventiveness remained undiminished in the 21st century. He revived Shakti for the live album Saturday Night in Bombay (2001). Other notable later works included Industrial Zen (2006); Floating Point (2008); Five Peace Band Live (2009), which won a Grammy Award for best jazz instrumental album; Now Here This (2012); and Black Light (2015). His recording of “Miles Beyond,” from the 2017 album Live at Ronnie Scott’s, took the Grammy for best improvised jazz solo. In 2017 McLaughlin made what he said was his final tour, performing music from the various incarnations of the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Six years in the making, Is that So? is one of John McLaughlin’s deepest and most profound musical collaborations with prolific Indian composer and vocalist Shankar Mahadevan. Joining the duo is their life-long friend and musical brother Ustad Zakir Hussain on the tabla, who has been collaborating with John since they founded Shakti in the early ‘70s, acknowledged by most to be the first groundbreaking crossover East-West musical group.

Guest Biography:

Biography, taken from: https://aworldempowered.com/members/ramona-peters/

Born and raised in the North American Midwest, BC DiCiacco grew up seeing the world with child-like awe and amazement; he has always loved “playing with life”. As a young man, a traumatic motorcycle accident nearly took his life, which enhanced this wondrous outlook on life even more. “Live each day as though it were your last; one of these days, you will be right,” is BC’s living mantra. His NDA (Near Death Experience) also caused him to become deeply passionate about helping each person live the happiest, most fulfilled life possible, regardless of what that meant to each one.

In the Midwest, BC created his own custom furniture company and ran it successfully for more than 15 years, coinciding with his establishment of “Le.Ed.” (Leadership Education and Entrepreneur Development); a localized focus group that helped dozens of business owners to learn leadership skills and grow their revenues.

In 2015, BC felt the world calling to him, so in early 2016, BC closed shop, and traveled to Central America with a map and a backpack, seeking the source that was calling to him. After three months abroad, the entrepreneurial bug bit again; he is now the CEO (or “Creative Empowerment Officer”, as he prefers) for “A World Empowered, LLC”, a company which seeks out and initiates projects around the world that cultivate and perpetuate the empowerment of human beings. In addition, BC most recently created “Twenty Tuesday”; a global online community where people gather weekly for focused meditation that cultivates positivity, optimism, self-love and a higher world vibration. BC is a true consummate friend and compassionate soul, driven to be an uplifting force in the world.

During business studies with his own coach, Matt Shoup, BC was encouraged to create a warrior credo for himself. The credo was meant to be both a defining illustration and a guiding force that would solidify (in his own heart) who he is at his core, and would help keep him on track if ever he were lost; it is what he would fight to the death for, in the arena of life. With this single sentence, BC encapsulated the life that he exemplifies with every waking breath:

“Today I fight to be a shining example of Love, Light, Leadership, Legacy and Lifestyle, in the lives of everyone that I meet.”

Guest Occupation: he Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT) and Eastern Energy Medicine service
Guest Biography:

Merkaba Chakras was founded by myself, Von Galt. I am IT professional and an author who writes about metaphysics. I earned my Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Washington. I attended graduate school at the University of Maryland University College for E-Commerce, and ultimately graduated with my Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on E-Business from Westwood College Denver North. I've been a practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism and ancient metaphysic studies for 40+ years. As a life-long seeker of the latest in metaphysical practices and products, my mission is to help people always be connected to the universe through Christ Consciousness. Aside from being an IT professional, I offer my QHHT services to those who seek my assistance in uncovering clarity to their life challenges in order to help raise the frequency of Earth. I've peer reviewed QHHT against quantum physics and metaphysics of Buddhism, and I'm confident that the information brought forward from the Starseed and Indigo incarnates that seek me out for a session, reaffirm the scientific findings in academia. I am compiling all the ascension and awakening materials from my Starseed and Indigo incarnate QHHT sessions into a book, which my hope is to help bring awareness to the greater reality of how reincarnation, ascension, awakening, and spirituality play a pivotal part in the parallel reality of the users manifesting within it.

Philosophy: If it’s metaphysical and expands your consciousness, then you’ll find me investigating the phenomenon to see where it fits in the life planning of consciousness. I'm no ordinary ‘woo woo’ practitioner. As a lifelong Buddhist, I investigate and practice the modality and put it against many peer review scientific and medical journals to make sure it can be substantiated by quantum physics. The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso is an example of a well-known Buddhist who put's metaphysic spiritual concepts under much academic research before encouraging practitioners to follow the findings.

I believe in the ABCs, which is to always be connected to source energy. My  mission is to uplift customers by offering them helpful tools in metaphysic products and services so that they can live a spiritual and balanced lifestyle. In doing so, my customers are some of the highest vibrating souls on Gaia (Earth) and affect the harmonic frequency of the people around them. It's not always easy to find peace in non-peaceful situations and to remember that you've always been enough.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

As guitarist for pop-metal band Danger Danger, he toured the world opening for Kiss and Alice Cooper, sold over a million records worldwide, and had two #1 videos on MTV, plus amassing a discography that includes 7 solo releases that range from blazing guitar instrumentals, to blues, and even a Beatles/Elvis Costello-inspired collection of pop tunes.

As a session player, he’s been highly featured on CDs by drumming legend Simon Phillips, a live CD with Olivia Newton-John (Andy has been her music director/guitarist for several U.S. tours), two internationally acclaimed CDs by Kip Winger, recording sessions for Paula Abdul, Paul Stanley, and countless radio and television jingles. He has also played alongside many of his heroes such as Steve Vai and Joe Satriani (as a regular guest on their G3 tours in Dallas), Eric Johnson, Steve Morse, Mike Stern, Ace Frehley, Ted Nugent, and Pierre Bensusan, as well as some of his fave ’60’s singing stars such as the Beach Boys, Lesley Gore, and Gordon Waller (of Peter and Gordon fame!)

The decision to pursue the studio scene led him to more serious music studies. He studied classical guitar for two years before moving to Miami to study jazz guitar at the University of Miami (largely because the Dixie Dregs, Pat Metheny, and Jaco Pastorius had all gone there). He eventually ended up in Dallas where he was extremely fortunate to get a foot in the door of an incredibly good studio scene. In 1988, the Andy Timmons band was formed, and he quickly gained a following in Texas. Around that time, Epic recording artists Danger Danger recruited him to finish their debut record, film several videos, and begin touring.

After 4 years in New York with Danger Danger, Andy returned to Dallas in 1993 to resume his studio career and the Andy Timmons Band. His first solo release, ear X-tacy, was released in 1994 to critical acclaim followed 1997’s ear X-tacy 2. He then released Pawn Kings (1997), Orange Swirl (1998), The Spoken and the Unspoken (1999), and And-thology 1 & 2 (2000). In 2001 Andy signed with Favored Nations and released his first international record, That Was Then, This is Now, a compilation of the first two ear X-tacy records and and five new tracks. Resolution (2006) marks Andy’s first full-length new release for Favored Nations.

Andy has been consistently voted a “Top 20 Favorite Guitarist” in most of Japan’s rock music magazine’s reader polls, as well as being voted “Musician of the Year” four years in a row in the acclaimed Dallas Observer Music Awards. He also has become one of the most respected and sought-after clinicians representing Ibanez Guitars, touring the world on their behalf.

Guest Biography:

Elliot is the founder and CEO of Human Nature Projects, an international environmental charity supporting volunteers across 104 countries. He is a TED speaker, author, podcast host and filmmaker with a goal of reframing our human relationship with nature. So he’s saving people and planet at the tender age of 17.

To date, Elliot has been blessed with an abundance of life and near-death experiences: from giving flying lessons to owls and playing chicken with vultures to being stalked by a leopard in Botswana. But his learning simply is that we must all strive to be better animals. ‘Human Nature’ is his philosophy for how we get there.

"I'd describe myself as a skilled communicator, senior management executive and policy strategist with experience across two dozen charitable ventures. At age 17, my perspective is uniquely idealistic and I bring my values into everything I do. I'm a free spirit, a thought leader and storyteller aiming to reconnect the family tree of life."

"Ultimately, my path has been shaped by the animals around me. Age 10, I was stalked by a leopard in Botswana. The incident was reported, leading to the relocation or more likely shooting of the offending creature. The mixture of relief and guilt I felt from the incident continues to drive me forward. Likewise, I had a pet stick insect Ochre for a period of 18 months. I'd previously raised assassin bugs, fig tree leaf beetles and other critters, but Ochre connected with me more deeply. She taught me how thin the barriers between humans and other animals are. So now I've set about dismantling them piece by piece. That's my mission.
