After practicing law for 20 years Darryl Nyznyk became a full-time writer and teacher. He has written a holiday novel prior to publishing 'The Condor Song'.
Before becoming a full-time writer, Darryl Nyznyk (pronounced NIZ-nik) practiced law for two decades. As an attorney, he dealt with developers and environmental groups like the California Coastal Commission and the Sierra Club. After working on a case involving the Sierra Club, Nyznyk purchased a book called Wild at Law to read more about the group and became enthralled with their work.
He was especially drawn to the story of the Sierra Club’s efforts to stop Walt Disney from building the ultimate ski resort in the Mineral King Valley of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Southern California.
And that’s when the idea for his latest novel, an environmental legal thriller, The Condor Song (June 2013) hit him.
“I became interested in the entire concept of the various sides of the debate of good and evil,” says Nyznyk. “Here you have Walt Disney, an honorary member of the Sierra Club, trying to build an environmentally friendly development in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and he is opposed by the Sierra Club on the basis that no matter what Disney did to make the project environmentally friendly, it simply couldn't be done.”
Nyznyk was raised in a middle-class Catholic family in a Los Angeles suburb. His upbringing didn’t prepare him for campus life at UC—Santa Barbara during the anti-war demonstrations of the early 1970s. It was a wild time in a wild place, and it ultimately ingrained in him a sense of individualism, tempered by the social consciousness that helped shape his core and now forms the foundation of his writing.
After graduation, Nyznyk continued on to receive his magna cum laude JD degree at the University of San Diego. Family and a wide-ranging law practice consumed most of the next 20 years of his life. For nine years after private practice, he was general counsel and then president of a Southern California real estate development company. Since then, he has gone into full-time writing and teaching. His first novel was a political thriller titled The Third Term and he released a holiday book, Mary’s Son; A Tale of Christmas in 2010.
An Amazon best-seller, Mary’s Son, is also a three-time Gold recipient of the Mom’s Choice Awards: Inspirational/Motivational book for Juvenile and Young Adult readers and Adult Fiction/Literature.
Father to four grown daughters, Nyznyk lives in Manhattan Beach, Calif. with his wife, Loretta.

About Manuel (Manny) L. English PhD - Author/Lecturer
Dr. Manuel (Manny) L. English, is a retired executive and former professor. He was born in East Texas, one of ten children of sharecropper parents. When he was five years old, he began working in the cotton and corn fields along with his brothers and sisters attending school only when there was no work. Poverty prevailed in all directions. From the age of ten there were many moves to Arkansas and several parts of Texas in search of farm work.
At sixteen, to escape the poverty of his childhood, Manny enlisted in the U.S. Marines Corps serving in Korea with the 1st Marine Division. Two weeks after returning to Camp Pendleton, he came down with Korean malaria spending 45 days in a military hospital. This near-death experience gave him the opportunity to realize that he wanted to make something out of his life. He left the marines in the fall of 1955.
Not quite ready to settle down, he joined the U.S. Army in 1957 spending six years serving in Berlin and at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Manny met Jeanette in Honolulu in February 1962 and they married six months later. Perhaps as a sign of his innateness, in the fall of 1963 while at Schofield, Manny spent 30 minutes using five magic markers and a 9X14 sheet of paper creating a piece of abstract art for submission to the fourth All Army Art Contest. His piece won second place all army Hawaii, second place all army Far East, and fourth place all U.S. Army.
In 1964, he elected to leave the army and attend university. Two months later, a U.S. Air Force recruiter came and asked him to join. With one child and one on the way, and with the promise of support in getting his university degree, he enlisted as a staff sergeant in the Air Force. Ten months later Manny was selected for the ‘Boot Strap’ program spending a full calendar year at the University of Omaha earning his bachelor’s degree. He was then immediately promoted to second lieutenant. The Air Force continued its educational support enabling Manny to earn masters (U of Oklahoma) and doctorate (U of Manchester, England) degrees. Manny retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1976. He is proud to hold the title: Marine, Soldier, and Airman.
Manny went on to teach at several universities and serve as chief executive officer of a number of medical organizations including two teaching hospitals, one in Saudi Arabia. He has traveled to over 35 countries. He has published numerous articles on a variety of subjects. He now resides in the Seattle area and his interests include fictional and non-fictional writing.

Spooks and Legends Haunted Tours, LLC, was created by Bonnie Florek. Her creativity has certainly been a true asset to her very unique tours. Practically an overnight success, Spooks and Legends has attracted guests from as far away as Holland, the UK and Canada.
Wearing 18th century costume and strolling through town, Bonnie "becomes" Catherine Rathell, the ghost of a woman returning from Revolutionary Williamsburg. First person, costumed tours were designed and developed when realized what was missing from other area tours. Having been a tour guide for other companies, Bonnie knew, first hand, that the majority of the evening was spent on history and lifeless stories. Consequently, she has created her own tours to be what guests truly want and expect. Spooks and Legends Haunted Tours make the reality of spirits come to life through its originality. As new ghostly tales are revealed by 21st century town residents and employees, Bonnie integrates them into her already ghostly and believable evening tour. All information given has been fully researched. Nothing is ever made up and no false props or artificial elements are added to our family friendly tour. If you take photographs and later see ghosts in them, you can be sure they are real.
