Served is an ensemble dramedy TV series that chronicles the vibrant staff of a stylish LA eatery in their effort to function as a makeshift family. In part, the series is framed through the journey of a young Latino man, whose hopes of being a server are suddenly dashed when he’s relegated to the back of the house. This world is one that almost anyone can relate to, with over 15 million people actively working in the restaurant industry today and millions more having worked within it at some point in time. What's more, many of those people are from diverse and underrepresented populations. This is their untold story.

I created Served to tell the true story of the restaurant world because while we've seen comical takes on screen before, nothing has ever come close to authentic. I started working in restaurants at the age of 13 as a dishwasher at a grubby local diner. I've been a buser, a fry cook, a host, a food runner, a waiter... I know this world and the stories it has to tell are endless. They're also often stories of massively underrepresented groups. I'm not looking to shy away from the uncomfortable with Served; I want to lean into it and find the truth. I want to showcase stereotypes on screen so that we can peel back the layers of racism and sexism and ageism to reveal what's really underneath. I want to tell the stories of millions of service industry workers, so that they can see their worlds on screen for once in an authentic way.

Our pilot, starring P-Valley's Nicco Annan, was an award winner at the Independent TV Festival (now Catalyst Content Festival) and will be streaming everywhere on November 15th, 2022.

David Parker

PRESS RELEASE

Wisdom from a Brilliant Member of a ‘Rare and Endangered

Species’ – a “San Francisco Conservative!”

Scholarly Writing from an Entrepreneurial Mind

Educator/Entrepreneur/Musician/Writer David Parker Provides

Insight and Historical Context to Today’s Heated Political Debate

During this turbulent time, the individual and governmental decisions that are being made are likely to have a “ripple effect”--  for decades to come. In the nick of time, a new book offers a much-needed reminder that the timeless principles of economics are essential to the preservation of American democracy. Entrepreneur, investor, lifelong educator, David Parker, at age 50, went back to school to gain a deeper understanding of these enduring ideas–and the missteps of nations that deviated from them—to write his playfully-titled new book, A San Francisco Conservative. Just as Parker’s first book, Income and Wealth, provided readers with a thought-provoking examination of the foundation on which the nation’s freedom rests, his latest book, “a letter to progressives,” also serves as a message of reassurance and challenge to the conventional political thinking of the day.

The issues David Parker addresses in this thought-provoking book are those he has focused on for more than half a century, throughout his 40-year career as a teacher in San Francisco’s public schools.  In “A San Francisco Conservative,” he reminds readers that “crises” have affected the American economy numerous times over the nation’s history – but they pass. Parker provides well-researched support for his belief that economic opportunities always exist. He cautions that government leaders – especially those who identify themselves as progressives – are jeopardizing the very democracy that has produced prosperity.

The themes covered in A San Francisco Conservative range from education to taxes, and the political process itself. Parker challenges the widespread belief that a “conservative” (whether a resident of San Francisco or elsewhere) lacks empathy or a personal commitment to help those who are less fortunate. The government programs supported by many in today’s progressive movement to counter this misunderstanding do little more than increase the nation’s deficit in a dangerous way, Parker says.

The wisdom of David Parker is also showcased in a new podcast series, also titled A San Francisco Conservative. In each episode of this new podcast series, David Parker shares his insight and the results of his scholarly research on a variety of topics, often focusing on what he envisions as the proper role of government and how individuals can arrange for the principles of a free market economy to work in their favor.

United States

David Parker is the author of Income and Wealth, published in 2021, and A San Francisco Conservative. He began his career in education at the age of 24 and served students of San Francisco’s inner-city public elementary schools for 40 years as a music teacher, followed by 10 years as a volunteer. While pursuing his career in education, Parker became a very successful real estate investor. Parker’s career as a musician is similarly impressive. He spent 20 years as a member of the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, then 20 years as leader of the Dave Parker Sextet, which twice headlined the San Francisco Fillmore Jazz Festival.

Parker’s thoughtful essays have been featured in The Economist, The Financial Times and prestigious law journals. In addition to being an author, entrepreneur and investor, David Parker is also a proud father and grandfather.  He is already hard at work on his next book.

Michael Levy

Michael Levy, has become world leader on the philosophy of truth and wisdom although not many people know it. His 17 inspirational books have never been advertised or marketed for he feels authentic works will eventually find their place in humanity by word of mouth over time.

One of the best remarks received was from an old friend he grew up with, in the same street of row houses with no bathroom, an outside toilet and no running hot water or heating, just a coal fire, in a poor neighborhood in Manchester UK. He lost contact with the friend at 16 when Michael left school and the friend went on to university and became dean of two universities. They met many years later in Manchester and had dinner. After a 3 hour chat they shook hands and and on saying goodbye the friend said; “Mike you are completely untainted by education.” It is the best compliment Michael has ever been paid.

His lack of education makes his philosophy unique in a modern world, where everything is analyzed and sophisticated by experts until all true meaning drains away. His works do not follow any past or present philosophers and he has never found the time to read any books.

Many experts may use erroneous intellectual reasoning and faulty egotistical logic to explain answers that cannot be lived by natural people. At this point in time, schools and universities teach people to read and write to a good standard. However, they do not teach wisdom to the students, on how to apply their learning for the benefit of all humanity, not just for a select few.

USA

Michael levy was born in Manchester, England in 1945. He grew up simply in a poor neighborhood of North Manchester, England. He left school at sixteen, started his own business at nineteen with $100 and was married with two children before he turned twenty-one.

After many enchanting life experiences and a very successful business career, he retired to Florida age 46 in 1992. After six years, of asking profound questions inwardly, he woke up one day and started writing the answers. In 1998 Michael established Point of Life website, as a vehicle to project his philosophy and spiritual understanding

Michael is an author of 17 inspirational books, poet, philosopher, international radio host, a keynote speaker on cruise ships, radio and TV. He still is available for a few select seminars, events, interviews and talks. His books contain mystical poetry, business insights, investment philosophy, wellness, healthy living, mind body spirit, truth, philosophy, metaphysics, wisdom and everything society needs to live a wholesome life in love n joy. His works can be found on numerous websites throughout the world.

Dr Michael J Zema

After Covid fades away, the 800 pound gorilla - a broken healthcare delivery system - will still be in the room.

Considering the failing grade on our health care system given by Americans in the recent AP-NORC poll, the question begs to be asked: Why must the American public endure this only to have lip service paid to it every four years at the time of a general election? The people of this country deserve better. My book "Modern Healthcare Delivery, Deliverance or Debacle - a Glimpse From the Inside Out," has been hailed by BookAuthority.org, the world's leading site for book recommendations by thought leaders, as one of the "12 Best New Health Care Delivery Books To Read For 2022." The 350 pages with over 500 references to support the positions taken represent over four years of research and writing on my part.  The reader is introduced to many of the relevant milestones that have occurred in healthcare delivery during the past fifty years, as well as some of their unintended consequences. Problems currently faced are discussed and potential solutions provided.

With healthcare costs now approaching 20% of GDP, sound bites and snippets from "pundits," unfortunately all too common, are just not going to cut it. We are facing a financial debacle in healthcare, and yet just continue to kick the can down the road. As H.L. Mencken once said, "For every complex problem, there is a solution which is simple, direct and wrong" - truly words of wisdom when applied to Healthcare Delivery.

While everyone ostensibly someday will be a patient, for many, that exposure is intermittent, often skewed and largely gleaned from the outside looking in. For those who dare, Dr. Zema provides a glimpse of healthcare delivery seen from the inside, looking out, affording his readers additional insights whereby they may navigate outside their comfort zone while achieving a broader perspective of the overall healthcare delivery system. The American people cannot be a part of the healthcare delivery solution until they fully understand the problem.

United States

MICHAEL J. ZEMA MD, FACP, FACC, CPE, CSSG has enjoyed a tenure of forty plus years in the healthcare arena on the “inside” as physician trainee; private practitioner; member of a Hospital Medical Board; Vice President of a Physician Independent Practice Association; Board Member of a Physician Holding Company; Pharmaceutical Industry and Malpractice Legal Consultant; Chief of Cardiology at both community hospital and academic medical centers; Professor of Medicine at two State University Colleges of Medicine; and Physician Clinical Reviewer for a large national Radiology Benefits Manager. Having operated in all of the above "silos," at one time or another, unlike so many of today's so-called "pundits," Dr. Zema has indeed walked the walk and not merely talked the talk and as such is uniquely qualified to debate healthcare delivery providing a glimpse from the inside out.

Angel A

An innovative novel catered to the emerging millennium that offers new mythology and pioneering solutions to combat suffering.

Award-winning Australian author and filmmaker, Angel A, releases his second novel, 'Holy Parrot' December 1, 2022.

It is a tale that presents an emerging mythology for the emerging Age of Aquarius.

The story seeks to bridge the gap between scientific method and spirituality. It also seeks to create religious syncretism - a coming together of religions under a common faith. It is for people who are scientific who are curious about matters and behaviour of faith and for people of faith who are curious about potential ways forward on their spiritual path.

Leo Lumière was an undergraduate science student from Australia working in the coastal fishing village of Buritaca in Colombia. Maria swore the parrot they call Gabriel told her that she will be the mother of the new Christ. Miraculous events unfolded. But was she lying to hide a despicable secret? Or was she birthing the saviour of the new millennium?

The title, Holy Parrot, is the English translation of the Spanish, Loro Santo. This is the name given to the macaw in the story that is initially called Gabriel. The relationship of this bird to a village girl called Maria sends a ripple across the globe. The cover design is a reflection of both the role of Gabriel and Maria in the story.

If a readers are curious about a mysterious event that includes a fusion of of science, spirituality and exotic locations, that leaves them pondering about what is truth and what is not, this story may be the perfect option.

The author can comment on the following hot topics:

-The belief that there will be a new ‘Christ’ every 2,000 years.

-Our transition from the ‘Age of Pisces’ to the ‘Age of Aquarius’ and what may be different moving forward.

-The novel reveals the three elements of divinity and the three C’s of connecting to these elements.

-How Heaven is accessible while living and how the stories reveal these pathways through allegorical examples.

-The novel explores ’suffering’ as a topic. How do we move through it and become a better version of ourselves to overcome our own suffering?

After winning a writing competition at age 17, Angel A says, “to awaken the collective conscience, we must awaken each and every soul to their unique path. Each individual is required to transcend their own inhibitions, dramas and self-limiting narratives.”

These stories represent different examples of such awakenings. He has 8 more to write at various stages of development.

Angel A continues, “Mental health is a primary health concern in the modern era. Reflective review of our self-limiting beliefs may be an aspect of the resolution of this problem. The novel offers specific strategies related to this topic. To reveal them here would be a spoiler.”

Review

D. Donovan, Sr. Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

‘Angel A sweeps readers into this multifaceted story with a plethora of insights that reveal just how special Maria is, opening with Maria's pregnancy and thwarted attempt to marry in order to preserve her reputation and name.

Spiritual readers who enjoy stories of beacons of hope, paradigm-changing experiences, and social and personal transformation will find Holy Parrot vivid and involving.

While libraries strong in spiritual novels will be the ideal audience for Holy Parrot, it ideally will assume an active role in any book club or reader group interested in the intersection between science and faith, the resulting drive for a better life, and the miracles that can power such convictions.’

Judah Freed

THE BOOK

Making Global Sense: Grounded hope for democracy inspired by Thomas Paine's Common Sense

The cause of global awakening is the cause of all humankind. In these trying times of climate change when authoritarian nations outnumber democracies, our best hope for freedom and a sustainable future is seeing our global oneness — and taking action.

Making Global Sense reports that more than a billion of us on earth are aware of our connectivity. We’re inventing a global sense movement, building critical mass for a global shift into enlightened democracy.

Author and journalist Judah Freed finds inspiration in Common Sense by Thomas Paine. Where Paine in 1776 opposed injustice from monarchy and hereditary succession, Freed opposes ancient alpha male rule and authority addiction, instead advocating mindful self rule and personal democracy. Where Paine urged revolution, Freed urges evolution. Weaving essay and memoir, Making Global Sense revives ideals from the 18th century Enlightenment to champion our 21st century enlightenment, now!

BOOK PRAISE

“Thomas Paine rallied Americans to a new sense of themselves and their possibilities. Judah Freed does likewise for citizens of the planet.”

“Making Global Sense is at once vast and tangible, disturbing and inspiring.”
– Ocean Robbins, Co-founder and CEO, The Food Revolution Network
