Music Submission, The Modern Day Slave

Artist or Band Name:
The Modern Day Slave

Rising from the deep caves of the South African music industry comes The Modern Day Slave with new age experimental rap instrumentals who many may call the future, he raps about social issues as well as self conscious raps about personal reflection and development. Whether it’s crying out “fear is the man in the mirror” or “me and my brain , living our life in vain just Hoping to gain , pretty b****es cash and pain” he uses clever word play and a smooth flow to please listeners ears. It’s only been months since I started producing and writing lyrics and I have to say I have found my passion. I’ve always had a soft spot for music at the age of 13 I played my first instrument a saxophone and I knew from then that I wanted to make music in my life, though certain life experiences lead me to different places , experiencing the world I learnt a lot about myself and how my destiny unfolds . 2019 I published a blog on the topic modern day slavery and so the journey began . The more I discussed about modern day slavery I was learning myself and it came to a point where I see myself as a slave to modern society April 2020 I started producing beats on my laptop that’s when I also started writing and reflecting on my own personal experiences I see music as the best form of expression for me it’s where I can explore the limitless possibilities of creativity.

Lush and well crafted rock with groove, Specialists music puts you in an atmosphere somewhere between funk & psychedelics.  Initially, creating this set of songs was challenging for the duo as they were written & recorded entirely during quarantine over the internet.  After powering through the disconnected nature of crafting these tunes, Too Easy has become Specialists’ most refined release to date.

The EP kicks off with the powerful, Thanks, Boss- a pop-funk song with uplifting synthesizers, funky guitars, & enticing vocals; all separated by an impressive jazz-rock head highlighting the group’s musicianship. Second on the tracklisting, Be Easy, is a funk-rock staple in Specialists’ repertoire. Come Over is a seductive stand out track where Specialists explore their R&B influences. Listeners will find themselves enamored with the skips & hits embedded within this song. Down n Out, released as a single in April, has been described as “powerful, funky, & efficient.”  It’s impossible to not stay stunned while listening to this.” Finally, Wake Up caps the EP.  An epic song about keeping your mind & body in tune with your surroundings. It kicks off with an edgy, rap-influenced verse, followed by progressive rock instrumental sections, & a melodically dramatic chorus filled with internal emotion. This song is an appropriate send off.

As a result of this project being written during quarantine, the lyrical content uses intense imagery to depict an imaginary social life. Specialists found themselves writing about social interactions that they’ve gone so long without. Within the dual vocal parts, you will find a characterization of the bandmates themselves singing about where they long to be.

Music Submission, Cee Boo

Artist or Band Name:
Cee Boo

She was christened Sibusiso Msesiwe and now has donned the moniker CeeBoo and is brimful with flair and creativity in her latest offering Titled “Not The Same Woman” which is now available on all digital platforms.
CeeBoo is a versatile cross-over artist whose lilting and honey raw voices wafts swiftly between Afro-Soul and RnB. Born and raised in the coastal town of East London (South Africa), she started singing at the tender age of six, as part of her church choir and went on to learn to play the piano on her own.
“I am a self-taught musician. I enjoyed learning a skill without conscious awareness of the underlying processes of what is being learnt. In the process of curiosity you make mistakes, learn and grow because you have no scope or boundary to limit you. It is for this reason that I do not like being boxed as a musician” explained CeeBoo.
CeeBoo’s musical journey from church in later years migrated to poetry where she raided open mic sessions. Later, she would turn the poems into songs about her lived experience and things that she imagined. “The poetry sessions gave me the platform and confidence to be able to bare my soul infront of a live audience to examine what I had to offer artistically. When I turned to music my soul just soared, backed by the confidence that I was in full control expressing my art” chimed CeeBoo.
In 2010 as part of Elements of Soul, a touring venture which she wrote and produced the music, toured South Africa and Namibia. Their album was called Music in Me and helped profile her musical prowess. The musical odyssey culminated with Breaking Dawn her solo debut album. “Elements of Soul was an opportunity to test the market on whether they will receive the kind of music and message I wanted to deliver. It was a platform to hone my skills as an artist and focus on chasing the dream of making music to soothe, entertain and express myself” added CeeBoo.
CeeBoo credits her family and children as her greatest inspiration “I am moved by helping others especially the vulnerable youth. I am preoccupied with ensuring that young people find their purpose in life and blossom in the strengths” charged CeeBoo.
CeeBoo enjoys singing “about life, love, positivity, growth, faith and humility. I write and sing about relatable stuff. One has to be able to related to whatever song and genre they listen to. It is for this reason that I migrate from time to time from RnB, Soul, Deep House and Hip Hop. I do not make music for a particular target market or audience, but express myself for all to enjoy” concluded CeeBoo.
