David Jacinto

Inspired by a true story based on the author’s family history, this powerful debut novel chronicles the journey of a 19th century child coal miner as he rises from the ashes of poverty and tragedy to reach for his dreams. Seven-year old Tommy Wright’s dramatic story highlights issues of class warfare and child labor against the backdrop of England’s Industrial Revolution.

David Jacinto was born into a family living on the wrong side of the tracks and has been a storyteller ever since. He was the first in his extended family to attend college, and as a student athlete at one of the most prestigious universities in the United States, he received his degree in civil engineering. He went on to serve as president of SM Engineering Company, held leadership roles in multiple national and international companies along the west coast of California, and was on the board of directors for others. He was also commandeered by the State of California on special assignment as chief engineer to help rescue California’s three major utilities on the verge of bankruptcy during the highly publicized $300 billion energy crisis in 2001.

Despite his business successes, he supposes his greatest achievements have been to convince the fetching Anne Gray to become his wife, the good fortune to be a part of the lives of his 4 wonderful children, their wives and husband, and the blessing to be Papa J to 13 near-perfect grandchildren. Out of the Darkness is his second book, with Where Eagles Fly Free to follow as the second in the series.

Amy Daughters

December 7th is National Letter Writing Day, and author Amy Daughters, is trying to encourage people to re-discover the art of letter writing.

In her book, Dear Dana: That time I went crazy and wrote all 580 of my Facebook friends a handwritten letter, Amy chronicles how when she found out her old friend Dana's son was battling childhood cancer for the second time through Facebook, the pair started to write weekly letters. After he sadly passed away, Amy and Dana continued to write letters. Amy decided to reconnect with every one of her Facebook friends by writing them a handwritten letter.

As her New Year's resolution this year, Amy wanted to do more than write a note on their Facebook 'wall.' She has been sending birthday cards to all of her Facebook friends. She has 620 Facebook friends and mails an average of 17 personalized letters a week.

Below are some of the topics that Amy can talk about:

Lost Art of Letter Writing – The deliberateness of a letter, honest, believable and genuine, more than Social Media could ever be. Bringing back the beautiful connection of a handwritten letter.  How can we teach our younger generation to value a pen & stationery?  The evolution of friendships and connections due to social media.

Thank you in advance! Please let me know if I can connect you with Amy.

Best,

Rebekah

Ana Maria Caballero

When her young son is diagnosed with epilepsy, award-winning Colombian-American artist and poet, Ana María Caballero, is devastated and hopelessly confused. As the long journey of healing commences, Caballero eschews traditional medicine and instead turns to a group of alternative healers she’s worked with before, whom she affectionately refers to as her army of “witch doctors.”

A Petit Mal: A Mother's Healing Love Song is a gripping and finely-tuned memoir that tells two intertwined stories—one about Caballero’s son and the other, her quest to understand, and to ultimately heal his epilepsy. Caballero fearlessly details her experiences of motherhood, healing and spirituality, as she and her husband seek alternative healing for their suffering child.

At the heart of the story are her son’s struggles with seizures which are a part of daily life. A deeply personal tour that coils voices, themes and layers that are at once religious, shamanistic, and scientific. A Petit Mal is a hopeful examination of the path that takes them to an unconventional array of healers, from a Western medical establishment to a tour of ‘witch doctors’ of Bogatá, who provide a momentary respite.

I am sure you will enjoy learning about A Petit Mal and Ana's journey, and I would be happy to send you a review copy (finished book or PDF) and arrange an interview.

Ana María Caballero is a first generation Colombian-American poet and artist. Her nonfiction manuscript for A Petit Mal was awarded the International Beverly Prize. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and was a finalist for the Academy of American Poets Prize. Recognized as a digital poetry pioneer for her own innovative work, she is also one of the cofounders of web3 literary gallery, theVERSEverse.

Caballero knows there are many parents who struggle daily to protect their children dealing with epilepsy and other illnesses. She hopes her book offers inspiration, knowledge and “a protective friend” to others on the same path.

Guest/ Interview: November is Novel Writing Month and National Authors Day (1)

Timeliness:

October is National Book Month, LGBT History Month

November is National Novel Writing Month, National Authors Day – 1, Wolfenoot Day – 23 (This day celebrates both the Spirit of the Wolf and kindness.)

December is Read a New Book Month

Let’s rally your audience to celebrate National Novel Writing in November! Writing books is a tough job, takes a lot of work and is definitely a craft to be celebrated.

Let me introduce you to Paige’s Pages! I’d like to offer Paige E. Ewing, author of Explosive Chemistry (November 2023, City Owl Press) for an excerpt, guest post, or interview. There’s a huge push in publishing to increase inclusivity by using diverse characters who showcase a variety of types of people, Paige and Explosive Chemistry are stepping out on a mission.

Let's talk about:

Climate change fiction (hopepunk, solarpunk, cli fi) – Climate change is an existential threat. Paige can talk about what wonderful things would happen if we did better and what awful things will happen if we don’t. Mixing genres – Explosive Chemistry is actually chemistry, made up of mystery, science fiction, fantasy, and even a hint of slow-burn paranormal romance. Neurodivergence – Some of us think even more differently than most. A lot of folks have the concept that having a mental difference means a person doesn’t have the same desires for companionship, or can’t be brilliant, or funny, or useful to society.  World myths – In Explosive Chemistry, we get to meet some native myths and monsters.  Cozy fantasy – Explosive Chemistry, while action-packed, has elements that make it a fun, cozy read, including personal relationships as primary stakes, a found family made up of quirky misfit characters, and even tea parties. The importance of a diverse main cast – “Nice thing about being a fiction writer who wants to change the world: it’s your world, and you can change it.” It’s important for members of the audience to be represented in all aspects, and diversity is something Paige is passionate about in her writing and in her day-to-day life.

About the Novel: Explosive Chemistry is the second installment of the Liliana and the Fae of Fayetteville series. Set 30 years into a hopeful future where fossil fuels are obsolete, Liliana is a reluctant spider-kin fortune teller who is faced with the task of solving the mystery of who killed four soldiers at Fort Liberty. Follow along as Liliana bands together with irritating Fae Colonel as they defend their close friends, an oak goblin doctor and a fairy with a penchant for machine guns. Explosive Chemistry is the perfect book for readers interested in urban fantasy, Fae romance, and a touch of paranormal spiders.

Please let me know if you’d like to see an advance review copy or excerpt, or to be connected with the author for a Q&A. Can we set a time to introduce Paige to your audience?
