Whitley Strieber is the author of Communion, the Key, Warday, the Communion Letters, Super Natural: a New Vision of the Unexplained and over 40 other books. Movies and TV series have been made of many of his works. His website, Unknowncountry.com, presents news from the edge of science and Whitley hosts a long-running podcast called Dreamland.  Whitley Strieber has influenced much in our culture. In the TV series Babylon 5, there is an alien race that is similar to the Greys in his book Communion. This race is named the Streibs after Whitley Strieber. In an episode of The X-Files, "Jose Chung's From Outer Space", the cover of the book From Outer Space is a parody of the cover of Communion.  In the 120th book in The Hardy Boys series, The Case of the Cosmic Kidnapping, the character of "Hodding Wheatley", a Connecticut-based writer who had undergone UFO experiences, is inspired by Strieber, as indicated by the surname of the character "Wheatley". The post-punk dance music group The Mekano Set cite Whitley Strieber's non-fiction work as an influence on their work. They wrote a tribute to Strieber for their 2013 album The Three Thieves (a reference to characters from Strieber's novel The Grays) entitled What is it Whit?

BARBRO KARLEN/ANNE FRANK

A Shared History

Anne Frank died in 1945, and less than 9 years later, she was reborn as Barbro Karlén.

An accomplished writer and considered a child prodigy in her home country of Sweden, Barbro Karlén had 11 books published by the time she was 16 years old. As a young child, Barbro began having memories of a past life, which lead her to believe that her name was Anne Frank. Her Christian parents thought the details she shared were simply fantasies, and did not take her seriously.

Barbro’s parents had never heard of The Diary, OR Anne Frank at that time.

Despite this fact, Barbro, through her memory alone, led her parents to the preserved hiding place of Anne and her family. She pointed out landmarks and features of the house, which the curator confirmed, including a blank wall on which photographs were missing.

To date, Barbro is considered to the be the only, and true reincarnate of Anne Frank.

Guest Biography:

LIL’ DAWNEE FRINTA

Little Dawnee Frinta is a respected multi-instrumental musician and songwriter, residing in her native land of Los Angeles, California. Her songs, poetic, philosophical and deeply intimate, explore the existential crisis of life, death and the point of it all. An L.A. staple and passionate performer, she could easily share a stage with artists from Iron and Wine, to Tom Petty. Her live performances include a mixture of traditional Americana Lap Steel and Accordion but don’t be surprised if a Trumpet or Clarinet also makes an appearance. As a writer, she loves to write for other artists~ in constant reach for the perfect song.

Music became a priority early in her life, as Frinta learned the piano at age five, picked up the guitar at ten and immediately began writing songs. “I did not speak my mind as a child and I felt that this way of expression was all mine, like a secret language. I could say in a song all of the things I wasn’t allowed to talk about and found that using a form of poetry and melody to say these things felt so powerful.”

Dawn has enjoyed world-wide placements for many of her compositions and has had her songs covered by several L.A. bands. She has enjoyed co-writing with Rachel and Petra Haden of that dog, film composer, Marco Beltrami and others.

RECENT NEWS:

Just released 2016 “Devil’s In Me” by Rachel Haden is enjoying airplay on KCRW and other college radio. Dawn co-produced this moody gem of a song with L.A. Producer Brad Gordon under their partnership – Big Plastic Lab. The 7″Vinyl is available

SOME HISTORY:

Frinta formed the band Lava Diva during the L.A. Riots in 1992 while trapped in a house under curfew. With their unique mix of punk, metal, pop and jazz, not to mention Frinta’s aggressive guitar playing and razor-sharp voice, Lava Diva quickly rose to the top of L.A.’s alt-rock food chain. They ruled the local club scene for a decade selling out shows and opening for the likes of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, Tool, and Rage Against the Machine. Metal Hammer Magazine called Frinta “One of the most emotional and powerful voices in Rock music today.”

For the past decade she has continued working and refining her musical vision. Her signature razor’s edge voice and aggressive playing has evolved into a more mature arrangement/playing style without losing any of the passion or edginess that her sound has been known for.

Although Frinta has contributed to such respected bands as Petra Haden and the Sellouts choir, Gina Villalobos Band and the Resonant Heads as a multi-instrumentalist, she prefers to hone her craft as a songwriter. You have heard her songs and voice in feature films like Terminator 3, Flight of the Phoenix, The Faculty and has had hundreds of television placements in shows like the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, E! True Hollywood Story and many other broadcasts around the world.

Dawn founded Candy From a Baby Records with artist and curator Super Cooper Berella in 2012. Their mission is to give back to the community by sharing a portion of the proceeds with humanitarian-based charitable causes, while at the same time raising awareness about the impact of bootlegging and copyright infringement on independent artists and the charities they support with the proceeds from sales.

For Little Dawnee, music is a matter of sanity. “I can’t imagine what my life would have been without the gift of music. It has kept me grounded while lifting me to transcend and certainly driven me sane in this crazy world.” Her 2012 released is appropriately named, Stark Raving Calm.

'Y E S'  LEGENDARY DRUMMER/ ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAMER

ALAN WHITE

ON THE RAY SHASHO SHOW

Alan White is considered by many to be one of the greatest rock drummers of all-time.  With forty-plus years of performance experience and appearances on over fifty albums, Alan’s dossier reads like a who’s-who of rock legends.  With his consummate professionalism and easy-going nature, Alan continues to be an inspiration to fellow musicians as well as fans.

In the summer of 1968, Alan was asked to join Ginger Baker’s Airforce, a new group being put together by the former drummer of Cream and other noted musicians from England’s music scene including Steve Winwood, formerly of Traffic.

In 1969, Alan received what he thought at the time to be a prank phone call, but was actually John Lennon calling to ask Alan to join the Plastic Ono Band.  The next day Alan found himself learning songs in the back of an airliner en-route to Toronto with Lennon, Yoko Ono, Eric Clapton and Klaus Voorman.  The ensuing album, Live Peace in Toronto, sold millions of copies, peaking at number 10 on the pop charts.

Alan’s association with Lennon continued, recording singles like ‘Instant Karma’ and  the subsequent landmark album, Imagine, with Alan providing drums for the title song, ‘Jealous Guy’, and ‘How Do You Sleep at Night’. Alan’s work with Lennon led to an introduction to George Harrison, who asked Alan to perform on the album All Things Must Pass, including the hit single, ‘My Sweet Lord’,  released in 1970.

In June 1972, while on tour with Joe Cocker, Alan got a phone call from his manager, Tony Dimitriades, who said that Yes wanted him to join the band. His current tour was ending so he flew back to England for a meeting with Jon Anderson and Chris Squire, who told him that he was joining Yes or “they were going to throw me out the third-story window,” recalls Alan.

Three days later, on June 30th, Yes, along with their new drummer, opened their US tour before 15,000 fans in Dallas, Texas.  Alan and Yes gave each other three months to see if it would work out, and more than thirty years later, Alan is an integral part of the band, having played on every Yes studio and live album recorded since.

Founded in 1968 by Chris Squire and Jon Anderson, Grammy-award winning recording artists YES have created some of the most important and influential music in rock history, such as iconic pieces “Roundabout,” “Close to the Edge,” “I’ve Seen All Good People,” “Owner of a Lonely Heart,” “Starship Trooper,” and countless others. Its albums, including Fragile, Close to the Edge, Tales from Topographic Oceans, Relayer, Going For the One and 90125, have been certified multi-platinum, double-platinum, platinum, and more by the RIAA, and have sold over 50 million records total in its career that has so far spanned almost five decades. Among the world’s most influential, ground-breaking, and respected progressive rock bands, YES continues creating masterful music that inspires musicians, fans and music lovers around the world.

Never having lost his love for piano, Alan has recorded several keyboard parts for Yes as far back as 1974, when he tracked backing piano for the conclusion to ‘Ritual’, when Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman was unavailable. Alan continues to play piano to this day, and was featured on several tracks on Yes’ 2001 album Magnification, as well as live keyboard performances on the subsequent tour.

Time off from the Yes’ hectic touring and recording schedule allows Alan to pursue other projects as well.  With longtime friend and technical guru, Reek Havok, he formed ‘Crash and Bang’, to provide music for the entertainment industry, including video games and television shows. “It also serves as a testing ground for new music hardware and software and new approaches to music and it’s psychological effects on the user and an excuse to plug the wrong things together just to see what happens!”, adds Reek.

In 2005, Alan formed a new band, aptly called White, who released their self-titled debut album in January 2006.  White performs regularly in the Seattle-area, when time permits.

In recent years, Alan has performed with a variety of artists, including Spencer Davis, The Ventures, Charlie Daniels and Eddie Money, to name but a few.  In 2007, Alan played alongside Keith Emerson, Simon Kirk and Yes bassist Chris Squire at the Ahmet Ertegün memorial show, as part of the opening act for Led Zeppelin.  He also conducts numerous drum clinics around the country and around the world to encourage and teach other drummers.

Alan and his wife Gigi are very active in the Seattle arts community, serving on the board of directors for Music Aid Northwest, Northwest Program for the Arts, and the Seattle Theatre Group.  Alan is also a member of the Seattle Chapter of The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.

YES will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the Class of 2017, The induction, following two previous nominations, will occur one year shy of the legendary progressive rock band’s 50th anniversary.

Guest Biography:

Joe Perreta is a Psychic Medium currently living on Long Island. Through the gift of Mediumship Joe’s goal is to leave his clients spiritually, mentally, and emotionally healthier than before meeting with him.

Joe was born in Queens and raised on Long Island with his mother and father. As a child, Joe had a hard time hiding his affinity for the spirit world. After the death of his maternal grandmother, he would see, feel, and receive signs of her presence daily. At the age of 10 he began learning how to read the tarot. In his teen years he started having prophetic dreams and visions which he didn’t always understand, this made him shy away from his gifts for over a decade.

In that time, Joe graduated high school, moved to Manhattan and attended Hunter College, earning a bachelor’s degree in music. Upon graduating, he moved back to Long Island with his parents to pursue a career in music. After a few months and no progress Joe turned to his faith for some guidance and was once again given a vision, but this time it was one of his spirit guides. The meeting and conversation they had led Joe to once again open up to his psychic abilities, but not yet his connection to the spirit world.

After seeking spiritual guidance from various Psychic Mediums and being told numerous times that he was a medium, Joe was still apprehensive. That all changed after his cousin, an astrologer, introduced him to one of her psychic medium friends at a dinner party. Joe was asked to do an impromptu mediumship reading, his first mediumship reading to be exact. The overwhelming success of this reading gave him the validation he needed to continue on his life path.

Since then, Joe has been working tirelessly to bring spirit closer to everyone here in the physical world. It is not only his mission to heal as many people as possible through the beautiful gift of Mediumship, but also to prove to the world that the soul is eternal.

Guest Biography:

JACKIE GOLDBERG AKA PINK LADY

At 84 “years young,” Pink Lady Jackie Goldberg of Hollywood is a force of nature. She’s a producer, an actress, member of Actor’s Equity and SAG-AFTRA, community builder, trailblazer, founder, and motivational speaker through her company, “Get Up, Get Out, & Get a Life!” And it’s true what people say- being around her is like getting a shot of vitamin C! She has an amazing ability to lift and energize all those around her.

Jackie, who prefers to be called PinkLady, is deeply motivated by her belief that, “Theatre is central to what many older adults need in terms of connection, motivation, and enthusiastic participation.” With this conviction, she founded, Senior Star Power Productions, Inc., whose mission is to engage, inspire and enrich the lives of seniors and veterans through the performing arts. They offer workshops, mentoring programs, performance opportunities and master classes, to inspire, educate, and embrace all seniors and veterans so they can further develop as vital, productive, and creative people.

Despite the reality that everyone ages, society and the media influence and reinforce negative attitudes toward unfair prejudices against aging and older adults. Within the entertainment industry, the roles for older actors get diminished, smaller and typecast. They are portrayed as fragile, dependent, helpless, unproductive and demanding rather then deserving. Jokes poke fun at aging and memory loss and physical impairments.

One of the greatest gifts Pink Lady is giving to the world is how she challenges stigmas around aging that seniors face on a regular basis. She has become a powerful voice of today’s 60+ community, that challenges skeptics and proves that it’s “absolutely possible to be vital, creative, enthusiastic, energetic, sexy, and “shout-out” fantastic.” Senior Star Power Productions, Inc. produced fifteen musical reviews, which include, Rockin’ With The Ages, The Beat Goes On, and We Have a Dream. The musical reviews include onlyactors that are 60+; some have extensive experience in the stage, film and TV industry; some are newcomers. Her shows are nothing short of bursting with talent!

In her latest book, “Get Up, Get Out, & Get A Life!: It Ain’t over ‘Til I Say It’s Over” you’ll read, “I believe I’m a perfect example of what the right attitude and gratitude can do for you. You need to know who you are and realize there is still a lot of livin’ to do. The purpose of life, after all, is to live it. This is truly our time to live life to the max-to taste each experience and to live in the present moment-wisely, lovingly and with enthusiasm. In today’s world, it takes guts to get older, without being old. Aging happens to everyone. It’s inevitable. However there’s no need to become a victim of age.” I would agree that she is a perfect example- and one that I hope many will follow.

Pink Lady is also one of several voices and faces for the campaign of the National Veterans Foundation, a leader in suicide prevention for veterans by veterans. Over Veterans’ Day Week, she produced the Senior Star Power 2016 Talent Competition “America Salutes Our Veterans,” held in the 1300 seat Historic Wadsworth Theatre located on the VA Grounds in West Los Angeles. At the event was an impressive list of Honorary Co-Chairs, Host Committee and award recipients, including Mayor Eric Garcetti, Congressman Ted Lieu,Shad Meshad, Founder and President, National Veterans Foundation, Tommy Lasorda, Tony Orlando, Ann-Margret and many more. As a member of the audience, I was incredibly impressed by the sheer talent I witnessed, and enjoyed every minute of the production. It was nothing short of sensational!

Pink Lady’s next goal is to open in 2017 a year-round Senior Theatrical Arts Complex in the LA/Hollywood area.

I wish the Pink Lady a Yasher Koach for her incredibly important life work, and feel sincere gratitude for her paving a more kind and bright societal attitude for current seniors, and for the younger generations who will eventually get there (God willing).
