Guest Biography:

JOSEPH PECK

Joseph Peck is a professional steel drum musician with a degree in music education and a focus on world music. He has a unique set of skills, and a drive to inspire young, creative minds.

Joseph received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Wichita State University. He performed with Potential Symphony, an award-winning steel band in Trinidad, for the Panorama National Steel Band Competition. He was a founding member of Babylon Saints – a venerable LA-based pop/rock/reggae band, and has performed and recorded throughout the US in genres such ash reggae, acoustic rock, jazz, and fusion.

His career has taken him around the world, working with Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland, Cyndi Lauper, and Ryan Gosling, among others. His work has aired on VH1, CBS, and NBC, including Parks and Recreation. He was also a contributor in Teaching in the Diverse Classroom: Learner-Centered Activities that Work, a book for educators by Tanya Huber-Bowen.

Joseph’s current project – The Joseph Peck Group – is a Caribbean Jazz ensemble that explores traditional rhythms commingled with contemporary interpretations. His latest album as a solo artist is a relaxing and transcendental journey called Free-Flow Steel Pan Meditation.

While directing the Steel Pan Orchestra at Wichita State University, he founded the Adopt-a-Drum Program. Today, with a State of California Music Education K-12 Credential, he is a program facilitator at the Drumming for Your Life Institute, and a teaching artist at The Music Center and the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center K-12 Arts Education Outreach Program.

Twenty years of experience as a steelpan percussionist and music educator have informed his development of the Joseph Peck World Music Program – an innovative, performance-based class which exposes students to the important cultural and historical contributions of music. Students learn the

building blocks of music (melody, harmony, and rhythm) in a supportive,

creative, and interactive environment using percussion instruments such as steel drums (pans), hand drums, shakers, cowbells, and tamboo-bamboo. Students go on to read, write, practice, play, and perform music from around the world, both on an individual level, as well as with an ensemble.

His Caribbean Drum Circle Program is a music enrichment program that he conducts at Libraries and in schools, teaching students to build community and relate with one another in a drum circle format.

In both of Joseph’s programs, students discover the connection between music and math, science, the language arts, and the natural world. Each program culminates in a concert performance.

Autumn is my favorite time of year; perhaps that is because I was born into a big family, living in a small, upstate New York town, during this fabulous season. I am number six of seven children and ironically, I am now a mother of eight amazingly unique individuals. I love to write, teach, speak, inspire, motivate, and create. For me there are no limits, our potential is infinite, and our destiny is ours to design. Guiding individuals toward embracing their truths, discovering their passions, and living a balanced happy life is what I am here to do. Hello, I am Bernadette Di Gabriele and it is a great pleasure to meet you.

To begin, I grew up in a strict catholic home and realized early on that structured religion was not for me. It was in my mid-teen years that I had the chance to venture out and discover other religious mindsets. In my early twenties, I decided to dedicate myself to Christianity, moved to a small Tennessee town, and became an ordained Spiritual Teacher under the Church of God. During this time, I co-partnered a business heading the departments of Human Resources and Operations, while singing in and co-pastoring at a small church - where my primary focus was relationship enhancement, family services and youth counseling.

Still feeling unsettled about my spiritual beliefs, I began researching deeper into other philosophies and quickly became intrigued by the diversities and similarities I had discovered. I was now in my late twenties, finding myself at a major crossroad. Feeling desperate and trapped in a life of falsities, instability and uncertainty, I stumbled upon a spiritual weekend intensive that impacted my life so significantly that I had no choice but to make effective, necessary changes. I allowed my mind to embrace the idea of universal energies, I opened myself up to accept my gifts and passions, and I embarked on a new journey set to understand and grow what I knew was innate to me.

Through my studies, I have realized that there are very few absolutes, however, those that exist are irrefutable. I particularly enjoy working with one of these rarities, as I find discovering its power and ability invigorating. What is this captivating absolute, you ask? The answer is energy. Being a Usui Reiki Master and Theta Energy Practitioner, I tap into the power of this phenomenon in order to help others restore balance in their lives; ultimately creating happiness.

Today, my path of discovery has brought me to a place where my heartfelt desire is to assist others in achieving their goals, both personally and professionally. My recipe, well, I take my experience, passion and divine impartations, then I combine those elements with my behavioral science, communications, and, spiritual education and background. Adding these components together equals valuable guidance for individuals toward realizing and reaching their highest potential. Together we can make discoveries that will forever impact your life, setting you on a path to design your destiny one intention at a time.

– founding member of the seminal rock band Television – presents his new album

The Countdown on CD

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW!

On November 2, Richard Lloyd – founding member of the seminal rock band Television – presents his new album The Countdown on CD and digital via Plowboy Records, with vinyl available in 2019.

A pivotal fixture of the 1970s New York rock scene, Television’s improvisational, intelligent brand of avant-garde punk earned their reputation as a landmark act of the historic CBGB’s landscape, as well as an influence for generations of punk and alternative bands. Lloyd’s technical guitar proficiency was a key component to the band’s unique sound, which established their debut Marquee Moon (1977) as one of the defining albums of the era. After the band disbanded, Lloyd would go on to lend his signature guitar licks to Matthew Sweet and John Doe, as well as releasing several critically-acclaimed solo albums. Additionally, his recent memoir Everything Is Combustible: Television, CBGB’s and Five Decades of Rock and Roll was published in November 2017 with a second edition being released in paperback on November 2.

On The Countdown, Richard Lloyd creates an honest, natural expression with his stylized guitar sound and swagger. “I can only be me,” he says. “I can't turn into somebody else. So, every record I make is just a progression. I never felt the angst necessary to be a punk. I was too young to be a beatnik and too old to be a hippy. I like to say I’m an anthropologist from another planet who is observing human nature and expressing my observations through rock’n’roll.”

Taking a specific approach on the record, Lloyd’s process was to blend and balance the raw, live energy of in-studio performance with the benefit of technical refinements and additions behind-the-board. “You don't want to overcook the pasta,” he adds. “I never want a Chef Boyardee record. I like mistakes and rough edges. It's all very organic.”

Renowned Nashville session players Dave Roe (bass) and Steve Ebe (drums) served as a solid rhythmic backbone in the studio, cutting the basic 11 tracks in two days, while keys by Joe Bidewell (who played with Lloyd in his band in 1980) were eventually added to the mix. The result is a real rocker’s record, with Lloyd allowing his trademark fusion of garage rock, thoughtful soul, and power pop hooks to marinate from opening cut “Wind In The Rain” to the soaring heights of the closing title track “The Countdown,” in which he posits blasting off into space as he’s “had enough of planet Earth,” while his guitar and keys propel the listener with him into the stratosphere.

Adorned with his own personal paintings as the foundation for the front and back covers of the CD and vinyl, The Countdown continues the legacy of one of rock’s enduring pioneers.
