Marília Duffles brings a wealth of experience and a different perspective to Shadow Politics.

A scientist with a degree in microbiology from the University of Maryland and work in virology, Marília is also well versed in politics – having been a political appointee serving in the administrations of President Ronald Reagan and President George H.W. Bush.



She is an accomplished journalist contributing to publications such as the Financial Times, The Economist and Huff Post. A Republican turned Independent, Marília brings a fresh, different and important perspective to the show.   



Marília does charity work in Africa and India and was a ballet dancer with the National Ballet of Washington, DC.



Marília has a fascinating and diverse background. Originally from Brazil, she speaks four languages and has lived in Europe and South America. She lived in Hawai'i for 15 years and traveled extensively throughout Africa, Asia and the Pacific Islands. She currently resides in the nation’s capital where she has lived on and off for many years.

A reporter and author based in Washington, DC, Hunter Walker has spent the past decade covering politics. Walker is currently working on a book about the future of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party that is due out from W.W. Norton in 2023. Hunter worked as Yahoo News' White House correspondent during the entirety of former President Donald Trump's term.



His writing has also appeared in The New Yorker, Columbia Journalism Review, and on the websites of Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, New York Magazine, and The Atlantic, among others. Before reporting on Washington, Walker spent time covering New York's City Hall and Hollywood.



He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.

Polish biologist. Since 2007, the head of the Wrocław Zoo, which reformed the garden, making it one of the most beautiful and attractive zoos in Europe.  The author of the project thanks to which the Wrocław Zoo contributed to the discovery of the famous silver-backed chevrotain (Tragulus versicolor) - a species considered extinct. He is the author of 5 books about rare and endangered animals and over 50 scientific and popular science articles published in national journals and specialist foreign journals.



ZOO Wroclaw is the oldest and the most famous zoological garden in Poland. It was established as a joint stock  company and the grand opening took place on July 10, 1865.Less than 20 years later, the Wrocław zoo was included among the leading  facilities in the world. Today, Zoo Wrocław belongs to the European leaders in terms of breeding and attendance - it is visited by almost 2 million guests yearly, more than 12,000 animals live here, representing over 1,100 species.

Vickie was born in Hickory, North Carolina. Vickie and her family have been a part of the Colorado Springs community since 1996. Her family has a tradition of military service connecting Vickie to our military bases in Colorado Springs.    

After graduating from high school, Vickie attended Montreat College. She was the first in her immediate family to attend college. She was active in her church, as a worship leader, church secretary, traveling soloist, and she was the singles ministry leader. Vickie worked in the Business Development office for the City of Hickory in North Carolina. From 1990 to 2002, Vickie raised her family, putting her career on pause for the most important job there is, being a parent. In 1997, the Tonkins family started a non-profit organization, The Destiny Project, Inc.    

Vickie attended Colorado Christian University (CCU) in 2002 to complete her degree in Organizational Management. She helped start James Erwin Charter Middle School, hiring staff, and overseeing student discipline, while attending college. She graduated from CCU with honors in 2004. Vickie earned her Master of Arts Degree in Education Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix in 2006 while working full time. She earned a license in School Administration in 2008 and her license is still current.  Vickie was a professor at the University of Phoenix from 2009 to 2017.  

Vickie works for ComPsych Corporation as a Facilitator/Trainer in Staff Development for corporations. Vickie believes in the 2nd amendment and is a contract Representative for US Law Shield, sharing with others the right they have to legally defend themselves. She is active politically in Colorado Springs and in December 2015, was elected President of the Colorado Springs Republican Women's Club.  Vickie was re-elected President, in November 2017, for another 2-year term. In March of 2017, Vickie was elected Bonus Member to the El Paso County Republican Party and serves on the Bylaws Committee for the Party.   On May 15, 2018, Vickie joined the MLO Oversight Committee for D-11 School District.

John was born and raised in Chicago and earned a degree and certification as an X-ray technologist. While serving his internship in X-ray, someone in the skating industry familiar with John’s background and medical training encouraged him to consider entering the industry.

As an X-ray technologist John learned easier, more effective ways to achieve optimum results while having little to work with. Applying his medical and scientific training to his business practices, John discovered an easier, more accurate way to fit boots,mount and sharpen blades.Applying knowledge from his skeletal anatomy courses, John quickly realized the importance of properly preparing boots for mounting, and as a result noticed a decline in the need for remounting blades.John also noted a reduction in recurring injuries, apparently the result of bad fittings,mountings and sharpening.

His newly developed techniques resulted in reduced skating injuries and an overall improvement in skating technique for skaters.In the fall of 2000, a member of U.S. Figure Skating heard about John’s work and asked if he would be interested in contributing an article to Skating magazine.John’s “Ask Mr. Edge” column was featured in U.S. Figure Skating magazine for more than a decade.

In 2013 John released the industry’s first ever book,“Anatomy of a Figure Skating Injury”. The book details the many injuries ice skaters are prone to and how to prevent the same injury from recurring. Since that time John has gone on to become recognized around the world as the leading authority on equipment related injuries to figure skaters.

In 2014 John released his second book, “What Teenage Driver Don’t Know, The Unwritten Riles of the Road” which went on to be used in the Naperville, IL High Schools. In writing this book, John relied upon his million plus miles of driving experience and the fact that his children were of age and learning to drive.

Since then John has written and published an Ice Skaters Equipment Guide which he gives to each customer purchasing a pair of skates. The ROI from both figure skating books was well worth the time and effort.
