Guest Occupation: Indie-Folk Musician, Sea Captain
Guest Biography:

Noah Solt is an Indie-Folk musician and sea captain whose music navigates the tension and release found in a journey of return. Through gentle, hymn-like melodies, poetic lyrics, and warm acoustic textures, his songs invite listeners to pause and reconnect with their inner luminosity.

Solt’s artistic path has been one of bold exploration and intentional reduction—distilling his work into a more intimate form. While growing up in the Rocky Mountains, Solt’s parents instilled a deep appreciation for simplicity, a clear mind, and a curiosity for the world.

After spending a year at Berklee College of Music, Solt decided to leave and pursue his lifelong dream of sailing worldwide. Yet it wasn’t until he returned from three years at sea that he fully understood how transformative that decision had been. The vast, mysterious, and indifferent sea had not only catalyzed an outward journey for Solt but an inward journey as well. Its raw presence had washed away distraction and allowed him to focus on what mattered. In that deeply personal space, Solt discovered that self-knowledge is life’s greatest treasure–a realization that continues to shape his music today.

Solt’s first album, Big Water, was recorded at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and had a bold sound that reflected that chapter in his life. Yet, much like his experience at sea, Solt has since felt called to reduce his music to a more personal space of less sound and deeper resonance. His evolving style moves toward ethereal folk, though he continues to explore and refine this emerging direction.

Now anchored in San Francisco, Solt lives aboard his sailboat. The city’s vibrant creative energy and diverse culture fuel his artistic growth. His upcoming album, The Flight of Fallen Leaves, deepens this evolution. Blending poetic songwriting with the quiet wisdom gained from life at sea, Solt’s music reminds us that every step—no matter how uncertain—is part of a journey back home toward who we already are.

Solt’s unique background as a musician and sailor infuses his work with a rare depth and authenticity. His experiences sailing the world’s oceans have given him time to reflect on what really matters to him, creating an introspective and expansive sound. Solt’s performances, whether intimate house concerts or larger venue shows are known for creating a pause where audiences can find a moment to reflect on what matters to them.

As Solt continues to evolve as an artist, he remains committed to creating music that serves as a space for those seeking reconnection to themselves in an often chaotic world. His dedication to his craft and unique life experiences position him as a rising star in the Indie Folk scene, offering a space for listeners to pause, return to themselves, and reconnect with their inner luminosity.

Guest Biography:

An award winning author and playwright, Alretha Thomas is making her name through her pen. She started at the age of ten, when her 5th grade teacher picked and read her short story assignment in front of the class—that simple, loving act empowered a new writer. Continuing in high school, her numerous original oratorical conquests on the Speech Team led her to a journalism concentration at USC.

Upon graduating, Alretha soon realized that her interest in journalism was not heartfelt. While at the taping of a live sitcom, the producer noticed her and encouraged her hand at modeling. Modeling didn’t mean much to her, but it did lead her to acting and a NAACP Theatre Award Nomination (1993) for BEST ACTRESS. Alretha left acting and began to write full time. Her church gave her an outlet to fulfill her writing desires through their Liturgical Fine Arts Department wherein Alretha penned twelve theatre pieces—the community response was overwhelming.

This led to full length plays outside of the church. In 2002, The Stella Adler Theater presented A Shrine to Junior. The play was nominated for an NAACP Theatre Award and in 2004, Alretha’s play, Civil Rites, was the recipient of an NAACP Theatre Award. Her play Grandpa’s Truth ran at the Inglewood Playhouse in Inglewood, California in 2006, and was extended more than once by popular demand. Not only did radio station KJLH support by recommending this production to its listeners, but notables like the Mayor of Inglewood, Roosevelt Dorn, and music legends like Freda Payne and Stevie Wonder had critical acclaim for Grandpa’s Truth. This wonderful piece was featured on Channel 5 (KTLA News) by Entertainment Reporter, Sam Rubin. Additionally, in 2007, Alretha’s play, Sacrificing Simone had a successful run at Stage 52 in Los Angeles and was called “an inspirational crowd pleaser” by the Los Angeles Times and in 2009, Alretha’s groundbreaking One, Woman Two Lives, starring Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show), directed by four-time NAACP Image Award Best Director recipient Denise Dowse, garnered rave reviews from critics and audiences.

In between plays Alretha’s first novel, Daughter Denied, was launched in 2008 and has received glowing reviews from readers and book clubs across the country. Representing her book, Alretha has been the guest on many radio shows and television shows including San Francisco Public Affairs show Bay Sunday with Barbara Rodgers on CBS affiliate, KPIX Channel 5. In 2011, Alretha launched her second novel Dancing Her Dreams Away, and it was also well received. Her third novel, Married in the Nick of Nine, spawned a four book series that was acquired by Soul Mate Publishing in January 2014. In August 2014, Alretha was awarded the Jessie Redmon Fauset Literary Award for her indie novel, Four Ladies Only. In 2016, Alretha created the Detective Rachel Storme Mystery Series: Justice for Jessica, Losing Lauren, and A Penny for Her Heart. In 2018 Alretha’s Women on Retford Drive debuted followed by The Truth About Gretchen in 2019.

She gives God all the praise and honor for her blessed life and career!
