Major Wright is a retired football player who attended the University of Florida from 2007 to 2009. He led the SEC in fumbles and was named a First-Team Freshman All-American at UF. He was a member of the 2008 National Championship winning team.
He was picked by the Chicago Bears in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft. He played four years for the Chicago Bears and two years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He is currently living in Miami, Florida. ‘Major Pain: Confessions of a Smash-Mouth Safety’ is his first book.
Michael (Mike) Nichols, Interim CEO/President of the Coalition for the Homeless, joined the organization in January of this year. Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, Mike moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend law school and eventually served as a Georgia State Representative. He then made his way to Houston in 1981 to serve as General Counsel for the Sysco Corporation.
First, I saw an opportunity to help an extremely important organization (the Coalition) solve one of Houston’s most significant social issues. Second, I saw an opportunity to help improve the government’s approach on the issue of homelessness. The Coalition is in many ways a private/public partnership, and it concerned me that sometimes philanthropy can mask bad government. There is an opportunity to help government and philanthropy work in partnership more effectively. And third, my youngest daughter is a case worker in Seattle, also working in the homeless service system there.
This will actually be my second time working at a nonprofit; I also served as Interim CEO at the Houston Parks Board. Through my career, I have also been able to volunteer for a number of nonprofits. I served as Chairman of the Board of the Houston Food Bank, Chairman of the Board of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, and as an officer of Congregation Beth Israel. I am also currently a board member of the American Jewish Committee.
I would have to say my favorite thing has been the ability to meet the incredible people who are committed to helping our most vulnerable populations. My greatest challenge is understanding a very complex system of homeless solutions, an even more complex system of funding these solutions, and trying to make these systems work as effectively as possible.
I really want to help strengthen the organization’s financial position and its reporting so it can grow to support the number of current and future projects that it’s responsible for leading. I also want to work towards improving relationships with our service providers and our funders. And lastly, I would really like to help our employees and their partners work together as seamlessly as possible.

My guest Dr. Bradley Nelson is a veteran holistic physician and one of the world’s foremost experts on natural methods of achieving wellness. He is the creator of The Emotion Code and The Body Code system, and the CEO of Discover Healing, a holistic education platform that provides training and certifies practitioners worldwide. His books "The Emotion Code" with step-by-step instructions for working with the body's energy healing power, and his second book is: “The Body Code: Unlocking Your Body's Ability to Heal Itself." Have you ever thought about how much your emotions influence your health? Dr. Bradley and I will be talking about how emotions are the underlying cause of most illnesses. For more information and to get your free Emotion Code Starter Kit, visit EmotionCodeGift.com.
In The Emotion Code, renowned holistic physician and lecturer Dr. Bradley Nelson skillfully lays bare the inner workings of the subconscious mind. He reveals how emotionally-charged events from your past can still be haunting you in the form of “trapped emotions” emotional energies that literally inhabit your body.
Dr. Nelson explains clearly and concisely how trapped emotions can create pain, malfunction and eventual disease. In addition, trapped emotions can exert a dramatic effect on how you think, the choices that you make, and how successful you will be.
Perhaps the most important discovery that Dr. Nelson has made is that trapped emotional energies will often gather around the heart, creating a “Heart-Wall” that may block you from giving and receiving love freely.
The Emotion Code is a powerful and simple way to rid yourself of unseen baggage. Releasing trapped emotions often results in the sudden disappearance of physical problems, self-sabotage, and recurring relationship difficulties.
Filled with real-world examples from many years of clinical practice, The Emotion Code is a distinct and authoritative new work that is destined to become an instant classic on self-healing.
The Emotion Code has been created to give you new insight, to show you how trapped emotions can cause all kinds of problems, and give you the means to release them. You can take your life back, enjoy better health, and finally be free from the insidious and subtle forces that trapped emotions are exerting upon you.
Across our nation first responder agencies are stretched dangerously thin. The difficult, demanding, and dangerous work they do is causing burnout at a record pace. When my husband, Chris, was killed in 2020 by robbery suspects fleeing from Lakewood police, I knew nothing about this world. My interactions consisted of a few well-deserved speeding tickets. But the kindness and compassion I experienced after Chris’ death and what I learned by creating an ongoing relationship with those who serve, protect, and care for us in our worst moments inspired me to act.
In 2021, I founded Restoration Ranch Colorado a 501(c)(3). In 2022, I used my own funds to purchase and renovate a 40-acre ranch where dispatchers, first responders, emergency department personnel, members of the Judiciary, and their families can come for a day visit or an overnight stay. This serene setting provides a place for reflection, relaxation, and recreation and a place to care for those who care for us. To those in the first responder community who are still suspicious and skeptical, I get it. You’re not used to a community member doing something of this magnitude to support agencies and organizations involved in what I call “the traumatic event lifecycle.” Over the last two years, I’ve put $1.25 million of my own money into this endeavor and have followed through on every commitment I’ve made to create a place of respite for you and your families. My staff and I are committed to making believers out of you.
Why am I doing this? I was not able to be with my husband when he died at the crash scene. But those I call “my first responder angels” were with him as he took his last breath. That is why I created the Ranch – to give back to those that selflessly serves the public in circumstances that can be unimaginable.
