The Story of a Trauma Response Team: In this episode, we’ll be speaking with Captain Jacques Roy, of the Stamford CT Fire Department, and Dawn Roy, LCSW about Trauma in the Fire Service, Peer Support, Mental Health, and the birth of the Fairfield County Trauma Response Team.
In Stamford CT, on Christmas morning 2011, three young sisters and their two grandparents perished in a tragic structure fire.
Captain Jacques Roy and 70 other Stamford firefighters fought the fire and retrieved the bodies of the victims, then struggled with PTSD and flashbacks in the aftermath.
Seeking help, they found a huge gap for immediate, quality mental health services for the unique culture of first responders.
Captain Roy, whose wife Dawn is an EMDR Trauma Therapist, asked her for help, which eventually led to the birth of the Fairfield County Trauma Response Team, which offered Stamford firefighters CISM and immediate mental health care.
The FCTRT was again pressed into action with the Sandy Hook shootings, where they treated state troopers, police, FBI SWAT team members, clergy, hospital workers, students, and teachers. They also provided therapy to therapists.

Brian BecVar is an accomplished keyboardist/composer/songwriter and producer who has toured, recorded and performed with Celine Dion, Michael Bolton, Laura Branigan, Air Supply, Englebert Humperdinck, John Mellencamp, Gino Vannelli, Roberta Flack, Bill Champlin, Jon Anderson (from the group Yes), Kenny Loggins, Richard Marx, Davy Jones (from the group The Monkeys), Phoebe Snow, Dave Mason, Ben E. King, Bobby Caldwell, Wild Cherry, Kitaro, Cheryl Lynn, Alejandro Lerner, Pedro Aznar and David De Maria. The highlight of Brian’s touring years were the years performing with Celine Dion and with Michael Bolton, with whom he is currently performing as a pianist/ keyboardist.
As a composer of Film & TV, Brian has produced and scored music for independent films and major sports channels. His songs have been recorded by John Mellencamp, Roberta Flack, Bobby Caldwell, Cheryl Lynn, Alejandro Lerner and Pedro Aznar. In 1994 Brian released his first solo CD, entitled “Once In A Life,” on the Real Music label, featuring vocals by Pedro Aznar, from Pat Metheny’s group. Since then, Brian has recorded several solo albums of jazz/classical/world music. He is currently producing several promising young artists for major label distribution.
In 2003, Brian, along with his brother Bruce BecVar, collaborated with mind-body specialist and best-selling author Deepak Chopra to create an extraordinary CD of healing music entitled “The Magic Of Healing.” Composed, recorded and co-produced by Brian and Bruce BecVar along with Deepak Chopra, this CD contains music that uses elements inspired by ancient Vedic traditions and principles of healing. Since its initial release in mid-2003, the CD has been a major success globally and continues to inspire to this day.
In 2008, Brian wrote two Olympic theme songs for the Beijing Olympic games. Out of 80,000 songs submitted, Brian’s songs were selected and honored as two of the top 50 songs. And Brian received special Olympic awards from the Olympic committee for both songs.
Brian has recently launched SerenityStream, a video streaming app for mobile phones and smart TVs. SerenityStream is the source for epic films to quiet the mind and calm the soul, an ever expanding library of extraordinary visual landscapes and stunning soundtracks composed, edited and produced by Brian. Multi platform apps for mobile, TV and the Web allow the user to stream tranquil visual & sound environments for meditation, relaxation, stress reduction and inspiration. Brian is also developing an interactive multi-media gaming platform for SerenityStream. And Brian continues also to tour with Michael Bolton and write and produce songs for pop, alternative and world music artists and special events.

Even though she lost, she realized that her commitment to making a difference and changing what she saw as corruption within the establishment would not keep her from trying again.

People from all walks of life have been affected by the music of The Beatles. They gave the world inspiration and happiness in almost everything they did. On October 9, the 80th anniversary of his birth, a new music video will be released honoring John Lennon – “John Lennon: A Day In His Life”, Grammy- nominated American producer, Michael Franklin, and Beatles animator, Alvaro Ortega teaming up to create it.
The spark of Lennon’s tribute began when Franklin awoke from a dream in which he dreamt of the Lennon song, “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” while hearing John’s voice singing “A Day In The Life”. Amazed by the similarity between the two songs’ chord sequences and lyrics, Franklin hurriedly put this combination to the piano, the next night, another similar dream awakening him again – this time the baroque piano solo bridge sped up to sound like a harpsichord dashed off by my father, Sir George Martin, for John’s song, “In My Life” from Rubber Soul while The Beatles were on a lunch break.
“John Lennon: A Day In His Life” is Franklin’s montage of some of the most memorable moments we love from The Beatles songs, John’s vocals superimposed over a cleverly stitched together visual collage, the tribute based on an original score from the “Sergeant Pepper” album.
Franklin said, “I realized the same chord progressions are in ‘Eleanor Rigby’, as well as other Beatles songs. It was quite a surprise, and I couldn’t stop thinking about what The Beatles did. I dove right in, exploring other Beatles song bites. The music production took about three weeks to research, edit, and arrange.”
After completion of the tribute track, it was time to synchronize the video. Franklin had been aware of Ortega’s unique animations of The Beatles for several years, skillfully editing on his laptop previous bit and pieces of Ortega’s work, demonstrating to him what could be done, reaching out to Ortega in Spain, Ortega happily agreeing, the rest now history.
