NATE LAPOINTE

Nate LaPointe is a multi-instrumentalist freelance guitarist and singer/songwriter in Los Angeles, California. Spending his childhood in his father’s record store, he was inspired to pick up the guitar at a very early age.

Nate completed a degree in Jazz Guitar from California Institute of the Arts, graduated in 2000. Since then, he has worked with a wide variety of projects not only as a live performer, but also as a touring musician, recording and producing albums for many acts, composing, and teaching. Nate was with soul legend Bobby Womack for 10 years, performing on five continents and in such prestigious venues as Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, and the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame.

He worked with pop icon Selena Gomez live/in studio. He has also worked with Grateful Dead keyboardist Vince Welnick, and blues man BB King, where he had the honor of opening for him as part of BB’s 80th Birthday tour.

While in town, Nate plays guitar with a variety of different projects including Grateful Dead tribute Cubensis, South Bay rockers Barley, and bluegrass band The Devil’s Box. LaPointe plays any and all styles of music – rock, jazz, pop, blues, bluegrass, country and more. As an instrumentalist, Nate plays electric and acoustic guitar, pedal steel guitar, mandolin, electric bass, and vocals.

About the Author

Born in Dallas, Texas, John Leake went to Vienna, Austria on a graduate school scholarship and ended up living in the city for over a decade, working as a freelance writer and translator. His first book, Entering Hades: The Double Life of a Serial Killer (Sarah Crichton Books, FSG) was a New York Times Sunday Book Review "Editors' Choice," a Men's Vogue "Best Book of 2007," and the inspiration of The Infernal Comedy, starring John Malkovich.

John Leake studied history and philosophy with Sir Roger Scruton at Boston University. He then went to Vienna, Austria on a graduate school scholarship and ended up living in the city for over a decade, working as a freelance writer and translator. His investigative work for the Jack Unterweger, Duncan MacPherson, and Angelika Foeger stories has been the subject of numerous television documentaries produced by A&E Biography, Discovery, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s “Fifth Estate,” and the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation’s “Am Schauplatz Gericht.

In March 2020, when SARS-CoV-2 started to spread in the United States, he perceived that the pandemic response was illogical at best, and possibly criminal. He found it especially suspicious how quickly public health officials dismissed repurposed medications such as hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin. In November of 2020, he watched a video of Dr. Peter McCullough’s U.S. Senate testimony about early treatment. He sensed from this performance that Dr. McCullough was likely to lead the way in developing a more rational, honest, and humane response to the crisis. He made contact with McCullough in Dallas, Texas, where both authors live, and together they wrote "The Courage to Face COVID-19."

Wendy Hummell is a seasoned law enforcement officer with nearly 25 years of experience. She retired at the rank of Detective from the Wichita Police Department where she spent a majority of her career working Persons Crimes Investigations.  

Wendy’s area of expertise is officer wellness, peer support, yoga, and resiliency.  She currently works as the Health and Wellness Manager for the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and has helped to implement a holistic wellness program at the agency.  She is passionate about sharing the tools of peer support, mindfulness, yoga, and resiliency, as well as the importance of relationships, exercise, sleep, and nutrition to enhance well-being and job performance. Wendy speaks to these topics from the perspective of direct experience and through the lens of a law enforcement spouse.  Wendy’s exposure to secondary trauma, high levels of toxic and chronic stress, and disrupted sleep wreaked havoc on her nervous system.  After learning the tools that helped her recover, her purpose became clear: support first responders with the resources they need to not only survive a career on the front lines, but to thrive well into retirement.
