Paradigm Shifters presents Tim Costello of slumdoctors.org
This week on Paradigm Shifters:
Tim Costello is one of Bellingham's heroes. He started Slum Doctor (slumdoctors.org) and has worked successfully fighting the AIDS' and other ongoing viruses. I am rerunning this 2008 show with his perceptions and experiences with another virus which was frightening. He has learned, worked, shared and loved people in a number of very different cultures under different sieges. This interview is rich. He continues to work through Western Washington University to educate and serve round the world, to help people who are overwhelmed with poverty and disease. I felt it was useful to re-listen to this giving our current situations with Covid and its variants. We CAN learn and improve our compassion and protection of one another.
I hope I will find Tim happy to rejoin us soon with an update of dealing internationally, compassionately with pandemics, global climate distress and
one another. Let's add what it will take to consciously evolve and love one another.

A tribute to our Maria Kremer Sanchez! For the past six years, Maria Sánchez has been the co-host of SHADOW POLITICS. Each year the show has grown and Maria has been a significant part of that growth. She's moving on to continue her work on international women's issues, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in particular. Tune in to join me as we thank Maria for her longstanding commitment to our show, and we reminisce about the journey and talk to Maria about what's next. We say goodbye in sadness, but with great hope for her future activism and with the expectation that she will come back and join us from time to time! Thank you Maria!
OUR LAST SHOW IN THIS SERIES! Sun., Oct. 24 at 12 noon PST/ 2pm Central/ 3pm EST on THE WAR REPORT ON PUBLIC EDUCATION with Dr. James Avington Miller, Jr. - Critical Race Theory: Part 5 - WINTER IS COMING (from Game of Thrones and Hunger Games) - this will be a two-hour show!
1st hour - We'll continue to focus on CRT and CWT and the power roles they play on our awareness, understanding, emotional engagement and individual/collective social action within our theme of 'WINTER IS COMING' as it applies to whiteness, white privilege, white power and white supremacy.
2nd hour - Next, we will explore Generation Z (roughly born between 1997-2012, following Millennials and preceding Generation Alpha). Gen Z is a generation of activists who champion change and is the most ethnically diverse group who have the power to shape/reshape the past, present and future of our society for better or worse. How Gen Z and Gen Alpha are using this power will soon be seen and each Generation will shift the paradigm of how we live on the planet, i.e. - enacting a new mandate for Racial Equity, Politics, Climate Change, Education, Gender ID, Race, Work Ethics, Capitalism and Whiteness.

Physical therapy specializing in working with people with physical disabilities
At the age of four, I was diagnosed with a severe form of ADHD (later diagnosed with bipolar), and the doctor said that my only options were medication and counseling. I struggled in school to make friends and got bullied for being "different." In middle school, my parents got me a gym membership to the YMCA. I started exercising, and it changed my life. As a result, I've felt a deep calling to help others with special needs experience abundant life through health and fitness.
In 2016, I started Special Strong in North Texas, which provides adapted fitness personal training for special needs with autism and other disabilities. After successfully serving over 1,000 special needs clients with zero injuries, I started Strong Education, which teaches trainers, parents, and professionals to adapt fitness for autism and other disabilities with our online special needs certification.
Today, we continue to expand Special Strong to other markets through our Special Strong franchise owners. It is my desire to see the Special Strong movement in every state and in multiple countries around the world.
