We’re joined by Giovanni Rocco, retired LEO and FBI covert operative and author of the book “Giovanni’s Ring: My life Inside the Real Sopranos”. Giovanni talks about the toll the job takes, and the unwitting sacrifices our spouses and children make as a result of the first responder profession. Giovanni discussed how his “double life” as an FBI undercover agent inside the Italian-American mafia impacted his loved ones and his own mental health.
Giovanni also shares insights, strategies, and resiliency tools that have helped him, such as focused thinking and breath work, He also speaks about the programs Lakeview Health offers for first responders who are dealing with the challenges of substance abuse and addiction. He has contributed to the development of behavioral, mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation programs designed to engage and strengthen the resiliency of our nation’s first responder and military agencies.
Giovanni has been a keynote speaker and lecturer for private corporations and public agencies throughout the United States and internationally. The insight and strategies he shares in his lectures and trainings were acquired through almost thirty years of exemplary service with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. As a decorated investigator, a subject-matter expert, as well as a husband and father, Giovanni brings a realistic outlook and insightful understanding as to what our first responders are experiencing in today’s work environment. Giovanni offers the solution-focused steps needed to resolve the inner conflicts prohibiting our nation’s guardians in attaining maximum personal performance. 🎤 In this episode, Stacy and David speak with Dr. Olivia Johnson, Founder of the Blue Wall Institute ( www.bw-institute.com ) about police officer suicide and The Fatal 10. We do a deep dive into the root causes of law enforcement officers taking their lives, and examine Dr. Johnson’s “Fatal 10” of suicide contributing factors.
We discuss why we keep doing the same things over and over, expecting a different result, and the topic of agencies mandating mental health checks to reduce stigma and normalize the focus on mental health. Dr. Johnson explains terminology like “The Golden Hour”, “Think Like a Detective”, “Psychological Autopsy” and “The Cost for Caring”
Dr. Johnson is a veteran of the United States Air Force and a former police officer.
🧰 On the “Resilience Toolbox” segment, we speak with Doug Parker, who is a retired Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent and CEO of Thin Blue Defend.

Foot and Ankle Orthopedic and Podiatry
The Lower Extremity Amputation Prevention (LEAP) Alliance, a Nevada-based not-for-profit organization has announced it has successfully obtained a CMS-Medicare determination that confirms podiatric physicians will be reimbursed for the eligible services they provide when they participate in Medicare Connected Care, a CMS public education campaign to raise awareness of the benefits of its chronic care management (CCM) program. CCM services are generally non-face-to-face services provided to Medicare beneficiaries who have chronic conditions expected to last at least 12 months, or until the death of the patient.
According to Lawrence Rubin, DPM, director of the LEAP Alliance, this determination enables the LEAP Alliance to begin forming a nationwide network of solo and small group practice podiatrists who will integrate their services with the services of collaborating primary care and specialty physicians. Together they will provide comprehensive preventive care and treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) and peripheral artery disease (PAD). Dr. Rubin says the podiatry network goal is, "to have at least one podiatrist in a Medicare Connected Care provider team that helps save limbs and lives in every community in the country."
