Colonel Mike Borders, US Army retired, was born in the Army hospital at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, the son of a career Infantry Officer. Mike received his commission through the ROTC program at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. Mike went on to serve in the Army for 30 years as a Signal Officer and as a Latin America Foreign Area Officer.  After his military career, Mike worked for six plus years at the National Defense University at Ft. McNair in Washington, D.C.   Mike and his wife Diana moved to Sebring, Florida in mid-2014.  Mike agreed to stand up a Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) chapter in the Sebring area upon arrival. He is still president of that chapter, has been the Membership Chair for the southern half of the state, was Area Vice President for the Southwestern area, the Vice President, and now the President.  Mike also serves on several other boards, committees, and councils—all veteran/military-related.

Joe Madison is a groundbreaking radio personality and civil rights activist who has devoted his career to raising awareness about issues around the world, encouraging dialogue among people of different backgrounds, and raising money to support multicultural education and institutions. Known as“The Black Eagle,” Joe can be heard weekday mornings on SiriusXM’s Urban View.

While majoring in sociology at Washington University, Joe was an All-Conference running back and baritone soloist with the University’s concert choir.

As a young adult, Joe worked in urban affairs at Seymour & Lundy Associates and was active in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). At age 24, he became the youngest executive director of the NAACP’s Detroit branch, then rose to the position of director of the NAACP Political Action Department in 1978 before becoming a member of the national board.

Joe’s radio career began in 1980 at Detroit’s WXYZ-AM. In the early 1990s, he joined an otherwise white lineup at WWRC-AM. There, he worked to develop crossover appeal while discussing racial and other issues with the station’s multiracial audience. In the late 1990s, Joe started his own online talk show before moving to Washington, D.C.’s WOL-AM. The popularity of this led to syndication on the Radio One Talk Network and its XM satellite channel.

Joe uses his show as a platform for inspiring action on critical issues affecting the African American community. In 2013 and 2014, he hosted a series about the 1960s civil rights movement, featuring guests like the Reverend Bernice King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Luci Baines Johnson, daughter of President Lyndon Johnson. In 2015, Joe set a Guinness World Recordfor the longest on-air broadcast, 52 hours, which raised more than $200,000 for the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Joe has also brought international attention to the struggles of the Sudanese people through 90 days of peaceful protests outside of the U.S. Embassy in Washington, D.C. He delivered survival kits to refugees and freed Sudanese people being held as slaves. In 2015, he led a campaign to secure a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame for comedian, activist, and former St. Louisan Dick Gregory.

A Fellow of the William Greenleaf Eliot Society, Joe has generously supported scholarships, athletics, and the Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement at Washington University. He has interviewed students for admission to Washington University for over 20 years.

Joe lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife, Sharon. The couple has four children and five grandchildren.

Serving Our Country

• Combat veteran - Ron served in the military throughout the world and across the United States.  He purchased land in Colorado in 2007 with the intent to retire and explore the Mountain West from the center of it all.  Out-of-control government forced him back into public service.

• Ron retired from the U.S. Air Force at the end of 2017 after more than 32 years of active and reserve service, serving as an enlisted man and as a commissioned officer.  He worked as a linguist in Desert Storm and during multiple operations, including Northern Watch, Southern Watch, and Earnest Will.  During the Global War on Terror, Ron served as an intelligence officer, performing duties in Iraq, Kuwait, and United Arab Emirates.

• Ron served in several other capacities during his career, to include as a treaty escort for foreign inspectors from Russia and other countries, as a counterdrug officer in Kazakhstan working to stop the flow of drugs out of Afghanistan that funded the Taliban and Al Qaeda, and as a badged, credentialed counterintelligence agent.

  When not deployed or in uniform, Ron worked in the oilfields of North Dakota, witnessing first-hand the benefits of American energy independence, the merits of hydraulic fracturing, and the spirit and know-how of blue-collar America.

• His passion for public service began in the mid-1970’s as he listened to Ronald Reagan articulate the differences between conservative and leftist policies.  Just like Reagan, Ron Hanks understands that at all levels, government is too big and spends too much, and that protecting personal liberty should be the main goal of any elected official.

As he was pitching his screenplay he created a street performing character like Moses. He dressed up like the biblical Moses and hit the busy streets of Asheville NC holding signs promoting love and unity.

It was when Covid 19 hit America hard and the shutdown was in place that he started hanging love signs all over his home town. He has posted over 300 Love, Unity and Peace signs on telephone pole and as yard signs around Asheville. In the fall of 2021 he traveled across the U.S. to California hanging 150 more signs of Love.

The response has been very positive and over 100 people now have permanent signs in their front yards. William is launching a new non-profit called LOVE STRONG USA to spread love all around America on a mass scale. The goal is to get yard signs posted in front of millions of home across the U.S. He will be accepting donation and selling yard signs at affordable prices and creating a following called the Society Of Unconditional Love…S.O.U.L. The non-profit is in its initial stages and will be fully functioning in early 2022. As funding increases Love Strong USA will include t-shirts, bumper stickers and billboards all promoting the direct and simple message of Love. Most of the messaging will be 4 words or less. Such as, Love Wins, Choose Love, Got Love?, Be Kind, Kindness, Unity, Peace, Share Love, Give Love and Love is the Answer. All the signs are big, bold, colorful and easy to read. At some point we will hit a critical mass of positivity and a big shift will happen.
