Guest, James Vaughters is a 2011 Watkins Award Honoree. He was in the top 10% of his class in academics at Tucker High School located in Tucker, Georgia in the suburbs of Atlanta and one of the top 4 linebackers in the nation. James had many choices but ultimately chose Stanford University to study and play football. After graduating from Stanford in 2014, James finally joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent of the Green Bay Packers. He also played in the CFL and finally landed and is currently employed with the Chicago Bears.

The Watkins Award has established itself as the nation’s premier award for African American male high school seniors who represent the highest achievement in academics and athletics. The Award is emblematic of an extraordinary athlete, a bonafide scholar, and a person who has been recognized by prominent people in his community as a leader, volunteer, and community advocate.
