Shadow Politics with Senator Michael Brown
Guest, Jason Vanderground, president of Haven, a lead agency for the He Gets Us Campaign, providing overall management as well as strategic and creative direction.
We have previously discussed white nationalist Christians and the growth of their movement on this show. Now Marília and I will talk about the biggest ever Christian advertising campaign — He Gets Us — with top level executive Jason Vanderground, president of the advertising agency in charge of the campaign. The $100 million ad campaign went national this month. Television commercials, online ads and billboards are targeting millennials and Gen Z with a carefully crafted, exhaustively researched and market-tested message about Jesus Christ: He gets us.
Jason Vanderground joined HAVEN as President in April 2021. In his role, he provides overall strategic, client and staff leadership for the firm, working alongside Bill McKendry, Founder and Chief Creative Officer.
HAVEN is the lead agency for the He Gets Us Campaign, providing overall management as well as strategic and creative direction. Jason and Bill have a professional relationship that spans nearly 25 years. Jason previously spent 10 years, from 1997 to 2007, working for Bill McKendry at Hanon McKendry, a ground-breaking firm out of Grand Rapids, which grew to be one of the largest marketing firms in Michigan. While there, Jason served as the lead consultant for the firm’s issue, cause and non-profit clients.
Following this role, Jason’s career took him to marketing leadership positions at Spectrum Health, a top healthcare system; Steelcase, the leading global furniture maker; and Irwin Seating, the leading maker of fixed seating. During that same period, he also earned an MBA from Western Michigan University. Jason brings to all his work and the He Gets Us campaign vast expertise in brand and marketing communication strategy, implementation and management for many national and global brands.
Shadow Politics is a grass roots talk show giving a voice to the voiceless. For more than 200 years the people of the Nation's Capital have ironically been excluded from the national political conversation. With no voting member of either house of Congress, Washingtonians have lacked the representation they need to be equal and to have their voices heard. Shadow Politics will provide a platform for them, as well as the millions of others nationwide who feel politically disenfranchised and disconnected, to be included in a national dialog.
We need to start a new conversation in America, one that is more inclusive and diverse and one that will lead our great nation forward to meet the challenges of the 21st century. At Shadow Politics, we hope to get this conversation started by bringing Americans together to talk about issues important to them. We look forward to having you be part of the discussion so call in and join the conversation. America is calling and we're listening… Shadow Politics is about America hearing what you have to say. It's your chance to talk to an elected official who has spent more than 30 years in Washington politics. We believe that if we start a dialog and others add their voices we will create a chorus. Even if those other politicians in Washington don't hear you — Senator Brown will. He's on a mission to listen to what America has to say and use it to start a productive dialog to make our democracy stronger and more inclusive. If we are all part of the solution we can solve any problem.
