Sonny Provetto, MSW, LICSW, EMDR Clinician, Trauma Consultant for Emergency Responders, Retired State Trooper

Sonny Provetto is a former state trooper, EMDR clinician and a trauma consultant for police departments and emergency responders nationwide. He runs the Vermont Center for Responder Wellness, a comprehensive treatment center for first responders, which uses a multi-disciplinary approach to healing traumatic stress.

Sonny talks about a tool he created called “ASAP” which uses EMDR in the group intervention setting, which is proving effective when CISD is called for. Sonny has also testified as a subject-matter expert on PTSD and influenced legislation making Vermont the first state to recognize PTSD as a compensable work-related injury for first responders.

Through his experiences as a police officer and emergency mental health clinician, Sonny consults on issues of stress and trauma with police officers, firefighters, emergency responders and their organizations, working closely with 10 Vermont police departments, fire departments, and EMS.

Salvatore (Sonny) Provetto MSW, LICSW is an EMDR clinician and a trauma consultant for police departments and emergency responders nationwide. His experiences as a police officer and emergency mental health clinician have guided his clinical practice with first responders for more than 20 years. Sonny consults on issues of stress and trauma with police officers, firefighters, emergency responders and their organizations.

He works closely with 10 Vermont police departments, fire departments, and EMS. Sonny has testified in front of the Vermont legislature as a subject matter expert on PTSD and influenced legislation making Vermont the first state to recognize PTSD as a compensable work-related injury for first responders.

Sonny is also the recipient of the EMDR advocacy award for the effective treatment and advancement of EMDR in treating first responders. He also has created a EMDR group intervention specifically for first responders which is currently being researched and used in the United States, Europe and now with the Ukrainian military.
