Headlined Show, Here We Stand November 5, 2017

Before you gentlemen of the jury allow yourselves to be scared into condemning my clients, and I mean by that, scared with bug a boo words like "communism" and "anarchy", let me ask you to consider the substance of those words.

My clients didn't invent communism. Nor did Vladimir Lenin or Karl Marx. For communism is not a word but a spirit on the wind that has been with humanity ever since the first laborer was forced to toil in misery and oppression for a landlord or a king or some other idle drone. Communism is the common spirit of humanity, of the understanding born into every human heart that the world belongs to all of the people and not to those who have murdered or stolen their way into riches and into power over others. And as something from our hearts its symbol is the color of our blood, the common red blood that courses through every living man and woman.

My clients stand charged with hoisting a red flag and proclaiming the brotherhood of workers across the world. And what is wrong with that? Did not the same spirit of equality inflame our patriots of 1776 and give birth to our Republic? Was not the same vision of justice in the hearts of our Founding Fathers when they declared that all men are created equal? And yet this red flag outrages the rich men and their paid reporters and politicians, as well it should, for it symbolizes the ending of their tyranny over mankind. For the red flag flew at Bunker Hill as well as in Russia during their own revolution, and it has been present wherever honest men fight for their liberties. It is the common flag of rebels everywhere.

You men of the jury are mostly working men yourselves, and you should give thanks for rebels like my clients. For none of the rights and benefits you enjoy today would exist if it were not for rebels like these. Every right ever won from the rulers has been achieved through the suffering and the blood of those rebels who have proclaimed that there are but two nations in this world: those who work and those who live off that work. For you the workers are the majority. Not a wheel would turn without your labor. And yet how easily down the centuries have the parasites who live off of your labor set you against each other, one worker fighting another, putting guns in your hands to kill each other in wars or placing you in juries to try and condemn the honest rebels who will not rest comfortably alongside lies and wrong. But beneath those barriers that divide and kill you working people you remain united by the common red blood of humanity, and one day it will break free as a single irresistible flood and return the world and its wealth to all of you, the people, who nowadays fight and die for the scraps tossed to you from the tables of the rich; tables that are crammed with the bounty of the earth stolen from all of you.

And so I say to you good gentlemen that if you condemn my clients for trying to create a new world of equality and freedom, if you give way to the fear and hysteria generated by the wealthy to divide and conquer we the people, then you will be cutting your own throats.

Headlined Show, The War Report on Public Education November 5, 2017

Please join Internet radio host Dr. James Avington Miller Jr. as he continues to closely examine the Restorative Justice movement in our urban public schools. The end game of the war on public education is its destruction and the creation of a privatized network of schools. To accomplish this end, weapons were and are employed: zero tolerance, no excuses, criminalization of students' behavior in school, and the school to prison nexus. Restorative Justice in our schools is the counter weapon to the mass criminalization of student behaviors in school and its School to Prison Pipeline nexus.

Is Restorative Justice our hope out of this web of mass destruction? Can schools become THE MODERN ENGINES OF SOCIAL JUSTICE? Can Restorative Justice lead the way out of the school to prison pipeline nexus? Can we transform our schools into places and agents of social justice, change, and hope? We have to try.

His 14 inspirational books have never been marketed for Levy feels authentic works will eventually find their place in humanity by word of mouth. His lack of education makes his philosophy unique in a modern world, where everything is analyzed and sophisticated by experts until all true meaning drains away. His works do not follow any past or present philosophers.

Many experts may use erroneous intellectual reasoning and faulty egotistical logic to explain answers that cannot be lived by natural people. At this point in time, schools and universities teach people to read and write to a good standard. However, they do not teach wisdom to the students, on how to apply their learning for the benefit of all humanity, not just for a select few.

Happiness Hangout Guest, Kevin Hancock November 30, 2016
President of Hancock Lumber Company

Not for Sale

Modern day Soul Quest,  journey of a businessman,  who lost his voice to find a deeper meaning of life
Losing his own voice helped him to find voice for others and how that changed the whole dynamic of his own company and became a message for the 21-century  Leadership.

Kevin Hancock is the President of Hancock Lumber Company. Established in 1848, Hancock Lumber operates ten retail stores and three sawmills that are led by 460 employees. The company also grows trees on 12,000 acres of timberland in Southern Maine.Hancock Lumber is a multi-year recipient of the ‘Best Places to Work in Maine’ award. The company is also a past recipient of the Maine Family Business of the Year Award, the Governor’s Award for Business Excellence, and the MITC ‘Exporter of the Year’ award.Kevin is a past chairman of the National Lumber and Building Materials Dealers Association as well as the Bridgton Academy Board of Trustees. Kevin is a recipient of the Ed Muskie ‘Access to Justice’ Award, the Habitat For Humanity ‘Spirit of Humanity’ Award, the Boy Scouts of America ‘Distinguished Citizen’ Award, and Timber Processing Magazine’s ‘Man of the Year’ Award. Kevin also spent 20 years coaching middle school basketball for the Lake Region school district.
Kevin is a graduate of Lake Region High School and Bowdoin College. He is also a frequent visitor to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. In 2015,

Kevin published a book about his experiences with the Oglala Sioux Tribe titled,
Not For Sale: Finding Center in the Land of Crazy Horse
The book won the 2015 National Indie Excellence Award, first place in leadership and runner-up in the spirituality category. Kevin is an advocate of strengthening the voices of all individuals—within a company or a community such as Pine Ridge—through listening, empowering and shared leadership.

But Kevin life hit an unexpected challenge:

In 2010, at the peak of the housing market collapse, he began to have trouble speaking. When he want to talk, all the muscles in his throat would spasm and contract. Worse yet, talking left him dizzy, sore and not wanting to say very much.

Later that year he was diagnosed with spasmodic dysphonia (SD),a rare neurological voice disorder. SD has no known cause or cure and affects only speech. The two treatments are periodic Botox injections (chemical) and seeking a deep sense of inner peace and calm (spiritual).

As a forced response to the disorder, he started talking less at work. He shared the stage more broadly, inviting others to lead meetings and events that he traditionally would have controlled himself. It didn’t take long before magical changes began taking place. He quickly saw that the company functioned better when more people led. In addition, he was able to put a bit more balance into his life and saw how that, in turn, made him more valuable and useful for others. By 2012, he came to see his voice condition as a blessing, not a curse…as an opportunity rather than a liability. The opportunity was simple yet powerful: What if we could create an organization where everybody would lead?  What if we could create an organization where every voice felt trusted, respected, important and heard? Wouldn’t an organization where everybody led outperform an organization where just a few, chosen people held all the cards?

So, they went to work establishing systems and support mechanisms designed to make everyone’s voice stronger...employee surveys, team huddles, focus groups and more.It could all be a coincidence, but in the years that followed employee engagement (as defined by employees) soared and they performance took off to new heights as well.

Around this time, Kevin fortuitously began traveling to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota (statistically the poorest place in America). Over time he learned that before the reservation era when the Lakota people were strong, most of the power in their society went to the individual. The strength, freedom, responsibility and voice of each person was encouraged through tribal values, political systems and cultural rites such as the Vision Quest. After the reservation was established, pretty much all the power in their society was rounded up and placed in the governing center…with the Great Father in Washington, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Tribal Council. Under this structure of central over-reaching, the community suffered.

Then it struck him.

Across time, those who hold the power have often over-reached…leaders often go too far. But around the world, the power of the individual is speaking out. Increasingly today we live in a world where each individual wants to seek and speak their own personal sense of truth., This is true for companies, churches, governments, and families.

Kevin's conclusion; In the Aquarian Age leadership is about doing less not more. It is about restraint. It is about holding the power but not using it. It’s about listening without judging or correcting. It is about being connected and aware of how others feel.

He has come to believe that organizations that embrace each individual voice as unique and important will, over time, outperform those who cling to a more traditional view of power. All this he came to learn by losing the consistent use of his own voice. That seeming liability turned out to be a blessing. Kevin's voice disorder and his time at Pine Ridge combined to connect him more deeply with the essence of who he was and to want to help other do the same. We are all searching for our true voice. That’s the essence of being human.  When leaders talk less and listen more, they guide humanity forward.

The People Speak Guest, Morning Star Gali November 29, 2016
Pit River Tribal Historic Preservation Officer

Morning Star Gali has been deeply involved with the cultural, political and spiritual activities of her nation and urban Indian communities in the San Francisco Bay Area from a very early age. She grew up listening to stories of injustice, and attended demonstrations and marches while still in a stroller.

Gali was a teenager when her father became the first full-time Native prison chaplain hired by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). In that role, he provided cultural and spiritual support for, and advocated on behalf of, incarcerated Indigenous people in California prisons. She grew up knowing about the incarceration of her father, and was present at many of his presentations and his educational events for “Native Americans against the death penalty.”

Now, Gali is making it her mission to shed light on a little-known problem: the disproportionate impact of the criminal and juvenile justice systems on Native Americans. Native Americans have never been accurately accounted for in the criminal justice system, nor in other governmental records. The Bureau of Justice did not keep data on Native Americans until 2006, and the fact that there are more than 50 non-federally recognized tribes in California skews the data-collecting process in prisons. Additionally, Native Americans as a category are often considered “statistically insignificant” by researchers; therefore, data related to Native American behind bars is often nonexistent. Data that is available show that the Native American inmate population in California jumped from 145 per 100,000 Native Americans in 1980 to 767 per 100,000 in 2000. In addition, according to a 2014 report by CDCR, recidivism rates are highest among Native Americans.

Gali will document the crisis of mass incarceration among Native Americans in the state. Using her extensive network, organizing and community-based and engaged research background, she will mobilize Native nations, incarcerated Native Americans and their families, allies and policy leaders to address and shift the tide of over-incarceration and human rights violations within corrections institutions. She also aims to build solidarity and power among Indigenous Peoples throughout California, enabling them to restore sovereign rights and to heal, care for and resolve differences among their people on their own terms and by their own tribal governments.

“The first prisons for Native peoples were reservations and boarding schools,” Gali said. “State sponsored extermination policies against Native communities are continually carried out today within the U.S. prison system. My vision is to decriminalize Indian Country and Tribal Nations.”

Gali’s work is groundbreaking, and can lead to a significant shift in narrative and policies for Native Americans in California As part of her Leading Edge fellowship, she will:

  • Track, document and publicize accurate information about the number of Native American adults and youth incarcerated in California’s criminal justice system.
  • Organize community-engaged research and writing projects about the root causes of incarceration in her community, including elevating the stories of those incarcerated in collaboration with those individuals and families.
  • Support and defend the rights of Native Americans in the prison system to engage in ceremonial practices in prisons.
  • Work with tribal leaders to assert full sovereignty by bringing tribal citizens into the tribal court system and offer culturally rooted post-incarceration support.

A member of the Ajumawi band of the Pit River Tribe in Northeastern California, Gali currently works as the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer for the Pit River Tribe. Prior to returning to her ancestral homelands and working for her tribe, she served as a volunteer and advocate on behalf of Indigenous incarcerated tribal members in California and worked with a number of Indigenous-led grassroots organizations in the Bay Area for over a decade.

Hailed as a leader in the Native American community, Gali leads large-scale actions and assists with organizing Native cultural, spiritual, academic, and political gatherings throughout the state. She has been the lead organizer since 2006 for the now prominent “Thanks-taking” sunrise ceremony at Alcatraz, an annual commemoration of the 1969-1971 occupation by Native activists of the island within the ancestral territories of the Ohlone people. The sunrise ceremony, coordinated by the International Indian Treaty Council is now is attended by over 5,000 people each year.

“I want to see our families back in balance with each other,” Gali said. “I want healing restored in our community. I want to bring our incarcerated brothers and sisters back home and for them to know they’re needed back in our tribal communities.”

Morning Star Gali is deeply involved with the protests of the Dakota Access Pipeline at Standing Rock in North Dakota.  Her organization - the International Indian Council Treaty - has been trying to bring attention to the abuses and excessive violence by the National Guard and police against protestors there and elicited a response from the United Nations in this statement released below by the IICT:

Statement on “Excessive Force” at Standing Rock from the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Assembly Nov. 15th 2016

Respectful Greetings,

Maina Kiai, the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and association called the response of law enforcement to the peaceful protests against the DAPL pipeline as “excessive force”.  In a UN release issued yesterday, November 15th 2016, the Special Rapporteur stated that “Law enforcement officials, private security firms and the North Dakota National Guard have used unjustified force to deal with opponents of the Dakota Access pipeline”.

IITC was honored to be able to submit information and testimony to this Special Rapporteur including from Standing Rock Chairman Dave Archambault, Grand Chief Edward John (UNPFII)  and IITC’s human rights observer Roberto Borrero to this Special Procedures Mandate Holder for the achievement of the Special Rapporteur’s report.

Life Changes Show Guest, Paul Padgett November 28, 2016
Musician, composer, and producer led him to found his nonprofit Rockers 4 Wildlife

PAUL PADGETT

Paul Padgett has spent his professional career working in photography, videography, and music, but his other major production is saving the world through environmentalism and philanthropy. His work as a musician, composer, and producer led him to found his nonprofit Rockers 4 Wildlife that was conceptualized while working with Slash from Guns n’ Roses at the Wildlife Way Station. Paul and Rockers 4 Wildlife work hard to be a voice for the voiceless animals of the world both domestically and abroad by participating in emergency rescues and by planning and implementing solutions for environmental issues.

After a tumultuous childhood, Paul rose like a phoenix to apply himself and become an entrepreneur and philanthropist. Despite living in a rocky and sometimes abusive household, as a small child he started creating a neighborhood landscaping business as well as working a paper route. At 18, he got his contractor’s license and focused on using his skills to rebuild cities after tornados, fires, floods, hurricanes, and more.

Paul moved his family from Oklahoma to California in 2003 to continue producing in the entertainment industry and to build homes in Beverly Hills and Hollywood affected by the Northridge Earthquake. Since then his interest in humanitarian and environmental efforts has only grown; he tends a 51⁄4 acre Hass avocado ranch supplying Baja Fresh, Chipotle, and Rubio’s with fresh, affordable, organic produce, works with the Air Force Civil Air Patrol 59t h Squadron out of Hemet, California as a search and rescue and disaster relief pilot, has saved 11 lives as an emergency first responder diver, supports people fighting prescription and illicit drug abuse, and produces documentary films about humanitarian and environmental issues.

Paul currently has multiple film projects in motion right now. His f ilm Mission Earth is culminating after over ten years of studying, filming, and aligning solutions to save the human race and the other wonderful creatures of Earth and is slated for release late 2017. Paul is also in principal filming right no w on C himp Village for the Wildlife Way Station, where they’re creating the first habitat of its kind for chimps.

Along with doing research on the coral reefs and kelp forests, Paul’s primary work in the oceans is out of cage studies with great white, tiger, bull, and reef sharks. He recently completed a two year project planting 157,000 coral reefs in Key Largo to provide oxygen to the planet. He also participates in massive undertaking efforts to remove trash from the oceans including clean up of Catalina Harbor, which nets five tons of trash build up per year.

He also has a flair for the arts; for four decades he has worked as a professional photographer and has produced music for legends like the Gap Band, Wayman Tisdale, Cameo, Kool & the Gang, Gladys Knight, and more and makes an effort to donate proceeds from his art sales to saving the environment and helping raise money for groups like Mi Casa, St. Jude Hospitals, Wildlife Way Station, and the Sea Shepherd.

Paul says he has become successful from always staying focused, being extremely motivated, and being around great mentors, emphasizing the importance of efficiency and follow through. Word, integrity ands a handshake are the mantra this country boy will follow to the grave!
