Did you ever wonder why a horse wears blinders - the patches on the side of their heads? It's because their eyes are on the side of their heads, like a chicken, instead of in the front of their heads, like a dog. So they have peripheral vision, which means they are easily distracted and will run off course without the help of blinders to keep them focused on the direction they are supposed to be on. I read that it's even said that blinders help a horse take chances it would never take otherwise, because it is focused on where it is supposed to go and does not get distracted or spooked by what is going on around it.
Do you every feel like you need blinders on to keep you focused on what you want to accomplish and what you want your final destination to be? My vision for my future is my blinder. My vision gives me tunnel vision. I have to have intense focus, or tunnel vision, to finish the race that I began, and to stay on course. I focus on my target - the final goal, and I don't let myself get spooked or side-tracked by people and things around me. When I find that my goals are not being met, my priorities are becoming questionable, my schedule is getting out of control, or my motivation is getting a bit weak, it's time to revisit my vision and remind myself of the course I am supposed to be on, and why. Once I reallign my schedule and priorities with my vision, I need to implement tools to help me remain focused and on the right track.
Do you have blinders on? What keeps you focused? What are you focused on? Share your stories! We'd love to hear from you!
