At an early age Darrel Walton new music would have a major impact on his life. Growing up in Southern California with parents having backgrounds in singing and theater, he was attracted to performing and singing. At age 3, he was involved in plays and musicals. At the age of 12, he was introduced to a Casio keyboard. This became his passion. He began making beats, recording from tape to tape. Playing each phrase over and over, and then switching decks and dubbing the new sound. Neighborhood teens would come to his house and purchase beats to rap over. He was given the name Teon Vest.
