Are manifestation multiple personalities in people a true medical illness, or the result of a strange spiritual condition?

Dr Lana and Det David Love discuss Dissociative Identity Disorder the psychiatric disorder formerly known as Multiple Personality Order.

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), or Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD), is a condition in which an individual appears to host two or more distinct personalities. These unique personalities can possess and control the host body for a period of time. The individual’s familiar personality seems to disappear and be replaced by an alternate personality, also called an “alter”. It is not known whether a person is born with these extra personalities or they appear after a certain life event triggers them to emerge.

Lana and David examine the various possibilities that could account for multiple personalities including spirit possession and acts of higher intelligences.  They also examine how some characteristics of Dissociative Identity Disorder are similar and different in people who claim to receive otherworldly spirit communications.
