What is responsible for the growing incivility and bullying behavior in America today? Rude or disrespectful behavior in our society has become a major problem in schools, in the workplace, in politics and in our own homes, bowling alleys and backyards. U.S. workers report they have experienced or witnessed some kind of bullying—verbal abuse, insults, threats, screaming, sarcasm, ostracism or sexual assault. It does not help that the two major parties in government are not civil either. Civility refers to the behavior between members of society that create a social code that is the foundation of our society. This lack of civility explains a great deal about why we can't come together as a nation. Simple acts of courtesy require that we recognize and respect the other person. We pay a high price for that loss. How can we encourage both civility and grace towards one another and the citizens in our communities, our country, and our world?
