Our guest, Jessica Laycock, is a District woman firing a legal challenge to the ambiguous marijuana laws in the nation’s capital. As of Feb. 26, 2015 marijuana was made legal in D.C.—sort of. On April 20, an annual day of pro-pot advocacy, Laycock and seven other protesters were arrested during a demonstration in which activists gave joints to congressional staffers to push for marijuana-friendly federal laws. Possession of marijuana is illegal on federal land, but protesters say they strategically held the event on District land, where possession of up to two ounces of pot is legal and small amounts can be given away free. The circumstances of her case highlight the clash between federal pot laws and looser local regulations in a city where small amounts of marijuana are allowed. Let's hear what she has to say!
Performance Artist/Astrologer
ROSIE CUTTER is an international performance artist and astrologer. Studying astrology and medicine for 14 years, she came upon the Destiny Card system while living on the island of Kauai, Hi.
Our common day playing cards weren't actually used for playing games until very recently, they are actually the origins of the Tarot and are one of the oldest systems of astrology on the planet. Every day has a card, and every card has deep layers of meaning.
Incorporating numerology and astrology, Rosie found her true self through the system, as an award-winning musician and reader. The system has truly opened her eyes to the realization that all forms of life are interconnected through ancient patterns. If we merely stop to take the time and reflect, we can see the patterns of energy that affect us and how to use these uncontrollable forces in our world in a positive way.
Since the discovery of Destiny Cards Rosie has traveled the world far and wide to places like Brazil, Ibiza, Hawaii, and all over America doing thousands of readings and sharing her passion for knowledge that helps people navigate this strange world. Rosie offers integrative readings involving Human Design, Astrology, and Destiny Cards, to see a weather forecast of past, present and future events. She is releasing an upcoming book and weekly card kit with famed Destiny Cards Author Robert Camp in the fall, and is currently working with clients via telephone and internet from her home in Jackson Hole, Wy.

THE RAY SHASHO SHOW WELCOMES
'FOGHAT' LEGENDARY DRUMMER
ROGER EARL
'FOGHAT' SET TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM, "UNDER THE INFLUENCE"
Foghat comes full circle with their new album “UNDER THE INFLUENCE", releasing Friday, June 24th. Drawing from their collective musical influences, the band not only brought in some special guests from their past who helped launch and inspire the Foghat story, but also invited some new friends into the mix to continue the journey of this never idle band.
They started recording at their Florida studio, Boogie Motel South in 2013. In addition to Foghat members Roger Earl, Craig MacGregor, Charlie Huhn and Bryan Bassett, two additional figures helped shape the sessions - Buddy Guy alumni, Scott Holt, who lent a hand in the writing, and added fantastic guitar and vocals to several tracks, and Grammy winning producer/songwriter, Tom Hambridge.
With their resident genius, guitarist Bryan Bassett at the helm, the project was going slow since Bryan was doing triple duty, playing, writing and recording the tracks, while in the midst of a Foghat tour. So Tom Hambridge came aboard. According to Roger Earl "I met Tom when presenting 3 awards to Buddy Guy and Tom (his producer) at the Memphis Blues Awards. Tom said that he was a fan, and would love to produce a Foghat record. Putting that in the back of my mind, this was the perfect opportunity. Tom came down to Boogie Motel South to meet the band and we clicked and started writing together immediately. Working with him was inspirational!
During this time, an opportunity arose for some ‘other’ recording at Dark Horse Institute in Nashville for a friend's graduation project. Scott, Bryan and Roger recorded 6 tracks and a new ‘band’, ‘Earl and the Agitators’, with Scott Holt as lead guitar/vocals was born. They are now playing some dates opening for Foghat with Roger and Bryan doing double-duty. This great experience prompted Foghat to move the recording of “Under the Influence” to Dark Horse Studios where they brought in two of their major influences.
Foghat was ‘spawned’ from the British Blues band ‘Savoy Brown’ in 1971, so it was fitting to ask Savoy founder and guitarist Kim Simmonds to join in.
As Roger Earl puts it “Kim gave me my shot!” As soon as Kim started playing, everyone was mesmerized!
Included on this release is a new recording of ‘Slow Ride” to celebrate the 40th anniversary. They invited Nick Jameson, (original bass player and producer of ‘Slow Ride’ on the 1975’ Fool for the City’ album) to play along with Foghat bassist Craig MacGregor who played bass on Foghat ‘LIVE’ (1977). They had a blast, and Foghat lead singer, Charlie Huhn, was as usual at the top of his game with his incredible vocals and guitar work!
And to round out the project the amazing Dana Fuchs added some of her bluesy/sultry vocals to a couple of tracks!
Three years in the making, Foghat had fun with this record and the result is an eclectic blend of rock and blues with a little funk and R&B on the side for good measure.
It showcases the combined talent of all of the members both in the writing and the playing. This band never stops!

Educator, author, researcher, lecturer focusing on the history, origins and foundational concepts related to commerce.
I have to admit…there are a couple of important life concepts that took me awhile to understand. First, many of the things we encounter in our lives are not always what they initially appear to be. And second, discovering the truth about something doesn’t always happen quickly or easily. Based on personal experience, and many years of observation, these two concepts seem to apply equally to things out in the world as well as people and situations close to home. Understanding these concepts has played a big part in my growth as an individual and as an educator.
After graduating from college with a degree in psychology – with little hope of getting a paying job – I supported myself and my family by working as a carpenter in the construction industry. For the most part, I enjoyed the work I was doing, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had another “true calling”. Over time, I began to notice that in my daily interactions with the world of commerce there were many inconsistencies and contradictions. Eventually, I found myself drawn to studying the history, origins and foundational concepts related to commerce. I began to understand that the commercial world we deal with every day is often not what it appears to be. And like many things in life that take time and effort to fully understand, at a certain point it became clear to me that my life’s work would focus on helping other people understand the truth about how commerce really works.

President of Hancock Lumber Company
Not for Sale
In 2010, at the peak of the housing market collapse, he began to have trouble speaking. When he want to talk, all the muscles in his throat would spasm and contract. Worse yet, talking left him dizzy, sore and not wanting to say very much.
Later that year he was diagnosed with spasmodic dysphonia (SD),a rare neurological voice disorder. SD has no known cause or cure and affects only speech. The two treatments are periodic Botox injections (chemical) and seeking a deep sense of inner peace and calm (spiritual).
As a forced response to the disorder, he started talking less at work. He shared the stage more broadly, inviting others to lead meetings and events that he traditionally would have controlled himself. It didn’t take long before magical changes began taking place. He quickly saw that the company functioned better when more people led. In addition, he was able to put a bit more balance into his life and saw how that, in turn, made him more valuable and useful for others. By 2012, he came to see his voice condition as a blessing, not a curse…as an opportunity rather than a liability. The opportunity was simple yet powerful: What if we could create an organization where everybody would lead? What if we could create an organization where every voice felt trusted, respected, important and heard? Wouldn’t an organization where everybody led outperform an organization where just a few, chosen people held all the cards?
So, they went to work establishing systems and support mechanisms designed to make everyone’s voice stronger...employee surveys, team huddles, focus groups and more.It could all be a coincidence, but in the years that followed employee engagement (as defined by employees) soared and they performance took off to new heights as well.
Around this time, Kevin fortuitously began traveling to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota (statistically the poorest place in America). Over time he learned that before the reservation era when the Lakota people were strong, most of the power in their society went to the individual. The strength, freedom, responsibility and voice of each person was encouraged through tribal values, political systems and cultural rites such as the Vision Quest. After the reservation was established, pretty much all the power in their society was rounded up and placed in the governing center…with the Great Father in Washington, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Tribal Council. Under this structure of central over-reaching, the community suffered.
Then it struck him.
Across time, those who hold the power have often over-reached…leaders often go too far. But around the world, the power of the individual is speaking out. Increasingly today we live in a world where each individual wants to seek and speak their own personal sense of truth., This is true for companies, churches, governments, and families.
Kevin's conclusion; In the Aquarian Age leadership is about doing less not more. It is about restraint. It is about holding the power but not using it. It’s about listening without judging or correcting. It is about being connected and aware of how others feel.
He has come to believe that organizations that embrace each individual voice as unique and important will, over time, outperform those who cling to a more traditional view of power. All this he came to learn by losing the consistent use of his own voice. That seeming liability turned out to be a blessing. Kevin's voice disorder and his time at Pine Ridge combined to connect him more deeply with the essence of who he was and to want to help other do the same. We are all searching for our true voice. That’s the essence of being human. When leaders talk less and listen more, they guide humanity forward.
