Melbourne/Naarm artist MUKI (pronounced mʊk-ie) unveils his debut EP, 'Trampoline', out Wednesday, June 3, a deeply personal collection exploring the emotional highs, lows and in-between moments of identity, anxiety, heartbreak and growth. Building on his introspective blend of indie acoustic pop-rock, the EP is honest and vulnerable, showcasing MUKI's thoughtful songwriting and understated arrangements.
Since debuting earlier this year with singles 'Gasoline', 'Reflections' and 'Morning Music', MUKI has steadily shaped a sound defined by soft guitars, thoughtful lyricism and a powerful and passionate vocal delivery.
Produced alongside Josh Barber, 'Trampoline' brings together the themes introduced across MUKI’s debut singles, reflecting on the ups and downs of life. Now joined by new track 'My Sweet Anxiety', a deeply personal reflection on the messiness and confusion that often comes with anxiety, the EP’s emotional themes are brought into fuller focus. Speaking on the EP, MUKI shares:
“It’s about the strange joy tied to childhood, and the way a memory can hold both innocence and pain. The title came from a notion I couldn’t shake: ‘have you ever seen anyone sad on a trampoline?”
Opening 'Trampoline', 'My Sweet Anxiety' pairs fingerpicked guitar, light percussion and a soft, breathy vocal delivery with a melancholic sense of lightness, capturing the push and pull that comes with living alongside anxiety. Gentle yet emotionally restless, the track embraces the messiness and confusion of mental health without losing sight of hope.
From there, 'Gasoline' settles into heartbreak and acceptance, unfolding through spacious arrangements, fingerpicked guitar and layered harmonies as MUKI reflects on the slow unravelling of a relationship and the difficult process of letting go.
On 'Reflections', MUKI turns inward, unpacking identity and the weight of life’s defining choices through lush instrumentation, intricate guitar work and emotionally charged vocal performances.
Closing the EP, 'Morning Music' gradually unfolds from laid-back acoustic textures into a cathartic, stadium-sized release, wrestling with the desire for escape while searching for peace in life’s unpredictability.
Moving through the emotional highs and lows of growing up, healing and learning to rebuild, 'Trampoline' arrives Wednesday, June 3. MUKI will celebrate the release with a special EP launch show on June 20 at Shotkickers in Melbourne.
