No Condemnation in Christ: Walking in the Spirit and Staying Born Again
Sermon 761A
A Ministry Archive Message on Salvation and Obedience
This archived message from Pastor Tony Alamo, presented by Help From Christ Ministries, centers on what Alamo describes as the difference between merely claiming faith and truly living in Christ. He begins by discussing Christ as the Word of God and emphasizes that the world was already condemned before Christ came. In Alamo’s teaching, Christ came not to excuse continued sin, but to provide the power for people to be saved, changed, and brought into a life of obedience through the indwelling Spirit.
Romans 8:1 and the Meaning of “No Condemnation”
Alamo focuses heavily on Romans 8:1, especially the phrase “no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.” He argues that this promise applies only to those who truly live in Christ, walk in the Spirit, and no longer live according to the flesh. He compares being in Christ to being protected in an air-raid shelter or tornado shelter, saying that when a person is truly in Christ, Christ is also in that person, giving them the spiritual power not to continue in sin.
Rejecting What He Calls False Doctrine
A major theme of the sermon is Alamo’s rejection of teachings that, in his view, suggest people can say a sinner’s prayer and continue sinning without consequence. He criticizes preachers and teachers who say no one can be perfect, arguing that perfection is possible only through walking in the Spirit. He says false doctrine gives people a dangerous sense of security, while the true Christian life is continuous, active, disciplined, and dependent on Christ living within the believer.
Revelation, Judgment, and the Forever-and-Ever God
Alamo continues teaching from Revelation chapter 4, especially the verses describing heavenly beings giving glory, honor, and thanks to the One seated on the throne. He uses this passage to emphasize that God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit live forever and that believers must be “in” Them to live forever as well. He contrasts heaven with the catastrophes, suffering, disasters, sickness, and instability of the condemned world, saying that only those who remain in Christ are protected from eternal condemnation.
The Stamps Quartet Song and Leaning on Christ
The message includes a music segment identified as “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” with the Stamps Quartet. After the song, Alamo uses the phrase “everlasting arms” to reinforce his central point: believers are only truly leaning on God when they allow Christ to live in and through them. He says this means relying entirely on Christ’s Spirit rather than the flesh, the world, Satan, or sin. For Alamo, leaning on Christ is not sentimental language, but a complete way of life.
The Twenty-Four Elders, the Wise Virgins, and the Need for Works
In the later sermon section, Alamo discusses the twenty-four elders casting their crowns before the throne and connects this to faithful service, worship, and doing the work of God. He also references the parable of the ten virgins, saying the wise virgins kept the oil of the Spirit and continued working, while the foolish virgins did not. He uses this to reject “once saved, always saved” doctrine and argues that people will be judged by whether they remained spiritually alive, obedient, and active in the Lord’s work.
Salvation Prayer and Ministry Invitation
The program closes with Alamo leading listeners in a salvation prayer, asking for mercy, forgiveness, cleansing through the blood of Jesus, and the entrance of Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit into the heart. The closing announcer then gives information for receiving program 761A, requesting a CD or literature, contacting Tony Alamo Christian Ministries, and reaching Help From Christ Ministries. Alamo ends by urging listeners to tune in again for another message on how to be saved, born again, and to stay born again one day at a time.

Speaker 2 - Pastor Tony Alamo:
In other words, Christ came as the Word of God, that the world through Him might be saved. Christ is the Word of God, and through His instruction to not sin any longer, the world might be saved. But unsaved people take that and say, "Thank God, we're not condemned. God didn't come into the world to condemn it."
All right. Yes, you already are condemned. There has to be a change in you now, and that is that you have to receive the Word of God. Christ is the Word of God, so that you can be saved.
What does it mean to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior so that you can be saved? You ask Him into your heart, and He comes into your heart. That's John 3:17. Then there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. No condemnation. That should be a very satisfying thing.
The Apostle Paul says, "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus." That's Romans 8:1. Well, if you're in Christ, of course, you're in the vessel that never sins anymore. All your sins are taken away, and you're not condemned.
In the last verse of Romans chapter 7, he says, "Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?" This wretched condemnation. "I am condemned." And he says, "I thank God through Jesus Christ."
So when we're in Him, it's like being in an air-raid shelter during World War II, or being deep in a tornado shelter. No more debris can hit you. You can't get killed. Well, it is even more so in Christ. When you're in Christ, that means He is in you and you are in Him. There is no more condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1.
There is no greater inner satisfaction than knowing that Christ doesn't condemn you when you're in Christ. What they mean is that you are keeping the commandments, so that you're not sinning anymore. If you are in Christ, you can't sin anymore, because Christ can't sin.
Now, this is a spiritual matter. Christ must enter into your body. When He does, you have the power of Christ in you with His Father by the Spirit, so that you're not going to sin anymore.
Some people just take that and say, "Well, I go to church, and I'm trusting in Jesus. There is no greater inner satisfaction for me than knowing that Christ doesn't condemn me." No. Christ doesn't condemn Himself. If you're in Christ, then you're in Christ. You're a member of His body. He said He is the vine and we are the branches - not unsaved people who still sin, but those who have forsaken sin, utterly forsaken it, and are walking in Christ.
So that is an important thing to know. The greatest satisfaction of all in this entire world is knowing that one day the Lord Jesus Christ will make a complete, total, and utter end of sin. Well, that happens when you come into Christ. You don't sin anymore. This is why I'm reading some false doctrine here, where it says that one of these days the Lord is going to put an end to sin.
When the kingdom of heaven enters you - and the kingdom of heaven comes without observation - you no longer sin, because you're in the spiritual realm, and the Spirit is more powerful than your flesh. Your flesh is not bothered with temptation any longer. The Lord tells you how to stop being tempted: flee from the very appearance of evil.
So Jesus will return. Sickness, suffering, and sorrow will not be anymore. Disease, disaster, death, worry, want, and war will be forever gone. Actually, the Lord banishes all these things, and God will wipe away every tear from the eyes of those of us who have taken up the cross and followed the Lord. There shall be no more death.
But if people have not repented, and if they are still sinning - or if they repented and then went back into sin - the Bible plainly states that they will be condemned. That's the sorrow that a lot of people feel, and they are crying about it.
There is a woman I know who sinned. She was married. She went out and committed adultery and had a baby. She had sex with several different men. Somebody sent me a letter saying, "You condemn people." I don't condemn them. The Word of God saves their soul if they keep His Word. But if they don't, then the Word does condemn them. It is a double-edged sword.
For those of us who keep the commandments - for us and us only - there shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away in Christ. That's Revelation 21:4. But in the last chapter of the book of Revelation, it tells us that all these people who commit sin, who don't repent and don't use the power of God to continue not sinning, are condemned by the Word of God.
Now, for you to have peace of mind and to be free from sicknesses, infirmities, and all these things, you must be born again, and you must keep the commandments of the Lord.
I am still continuing in the book of Revelation. I am still in the fourth chapter, but right now let's pray.
Father, anoint this service. Continue anointing me, Lord, so that the souls in the world can receive the truth of the Word of God. There are so many people preaching that all you have to do is say the sinner's prayer and you don't have to worry about being condemned anymore. Father, if we say the sinner's prayer - and we do - I would love You to show them in this message that Christianity is a continuous thing. It is a new way of life. It is living in the Spirit. Those who walk in the Spirit have no condemnation, because there is no condemnation to those who no longer walk after the flesh, no longer sin, but to those who are spiritual and walk after the Holy Spirit, after the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.
Lord, I pray that whatever it is You want to say in this message, say it through me. Use me, in Jesus' name. Lord, I pray that You bind the devil during this message. Bind him, rebuke him, and open all the channels of heaven and pour out Your anointing, in Jesus' mighty name, that souls might be saved and the church edified and strengthened. In Jesus' name, amen and amen.
All right, here I am, I believe, with the Stamps Quartet on this one. It's "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms."
Speaker 3 - Music / Song Segment:
[Song segment: "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms."]
Speaker 2 - Pastor Tony Alamo:
Yes, amen. What are you leaning on? The everlasting arms. You are leaning on the everlasting arms when you are allowing Christ to live in you, and you are relying strictly on Him to live out His life in and through you. Then you are not at all condemned. There is no condemnation to those who live not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
If you are living after the Word of God, that means you are not sinning anymore, because the Word of God condemns sin, and you are not to sin any longer. You hear all these false preachers and teachers who say, "Well, no one is perfect," but that is a lie out of the pit of hell. Everyone has to be perfect in order to enter into the kingdom of heaven.
How can we be perfect? By walking in the Spirit. Walking in the Spirit is the Spirit of perfection. If you're in the Spirit, you cannot be condemned.
All right. Revelation chapter 4, verse 9: "And when those beasts give glory and honor and thanks to Him that sat on the throne, who liveth forever and ever..."
He that sits on the throne - we have to be in Him if we want to live forever and ever. Don't think there is no condemnation if you are still of the world. The world is condemned. If you are still sinning, you are condemned. The Lord didn't come into the world to condemn the world. For God's sake, it was already condemned. That's why He came into the world: to give you an opportunity to live in and through Him.
Don't let anybody tell you that you can just live forever if you are not busy living in the Spirit. If you're living in the Spirit, the Spirit is telling you what to do on a daily basis, and you're doing it because you want to be in heaven. You don't want to be condemned into hell forever.
Hell is such a dreadful place that the Lord had to come into the world - God Himself in the flesh - to die and shed His blood so that the blood would take away your sins and my sins. Then the Spirit of God, Christ with His Father by the Spirit, enters into you, because Christ is the life-giving Spirit, and gives you the power to not sin anymore. It's a spiritual thing.
Look at it this way: God said that everything in the universe was created by His Spirit, His Word. His Word is Spirit and life. If He created everything with the unseen Spirit of God, then certainly the Spirit is strong and powerful enough to keep you standing in these last days. This is true doctrine. This is the real doctrine. Anything outside of this is condemned. The world is condemned.
The Father did not send His Son into the world to condemn it because it was already condemned. He came here to show you how to be saved. He tells you in Romans 8:1 that there is no condemnation to those who come out of the world, come out of the flesh, and do not walk any longer in the world or in the flesh, but come out of the world and out of the flesh to live in the Spirit.
Therefore, there is no condemnation to those who walk not in the world anymore, not as the world does, or as the flesh does, but those who come to the Lord to receive the Spirit of eternal life. They have power over the world, power over sin, Satan, the flesh, death, hell, and the grave. You are raised from there. Then you're not condemned, and you have peace of mind knowing you're not going to hell, because you're walking in the Spirit and you're saved.
It isn't that easy to say, "Well, I know the Lord doesn't condemn anybody." You're crazy if you think that. The world is condemned by Him, and that's why He came in to save your soul - to die, to show you how terrible hell is. If hell weren't that bad, what purpose would there be for Christ to have come into the world? This is God in the flesh, coming into the world to show you that hell is so bad and sin is so bad that He allowed Himself to be slaughtered so that you don't have to go there - if you receive His terms.
He has terms, rules, and regulations. I was in the U.S. Navy, and they had rules and regulations over there that you can't believe. Don't think the Lord is going to let you into the kingdom of heaven without His rule. You have to be in the Spirit. That's His rule. That's His regulation. You walk no longer after the flesh, no longer after the world, no longer after sin or Satan. All of these have to be abolished in order for you to be perfect.
Charles Stanley and others say that no one is perfect, that no one can be. That is false. You say, "Well, if you can't say something good about somebody, don't say anything." But if that man is trying to destroy your soul by telling you false things, then that false doctrine has to be answered. This man, Mark Finley, wrote these different books. Don't follow that garbage if it invites people to continue in sin and still think they can go to heaven.
Now, the Father has not sent His Son into the world to condemn it, because it was already condemned. He came here to show you how to be saved.
Revelation 4:9 says, "And when those beasts give glory and honor and thanks to Him that sat on the throne..." Do you give glory and honor and thanks to the Lord? Don't expect to go to the kingdom of heaven if you don't. This is God. Of course you have to give glory to Him. You have to give honor and thanks to Him - glory, honor, and thanks to Him that sat on the throne, who is still sitting there, who lives forever and ever.
I didn't realize there was anybody in the universe who could cause you to live forever and ever in paradise, and not have to pay bills anymore, not have to worry about anyone foreclosing on your home, not have to worry about disasters, tsunamis, earthquakes, fires, floods, disease, or losing precious things you saved all your life. Nothing like that is in heaven.
This world is condemned. There are catastrophes going on left and right, all around the world. Tornadoes, earthquakes, fires, floods - everything. The Bible says earthquakes will happen in diverse places, and it is happening with tornadoes too. Whoever heard of tornadoes hitting in Los Angeles? I used to eat at a place called Jack's on the beach. They had really good fish. A tornado came and tore it to pieces. It tore the dock down and everything. I could not believe it. It happened, and it's happening everywhere, folks.
But God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit live forever and ever. We have to be in Them, because They're the forever-and-ever capsule. We have to be in the forever capsule to live forever. If you live outside of the forever-and-ever capsule, then you're condemned. Don't you get it? Hopefully you do. I pray that you do.
The Lord told me to lead people and teach them the Word. Teach them what the Word means. We have to be busy about our Father's business. Jesus even said that when He was a little boy. If you're not busy with the Lord's business, and you say, "I'm just too busy with today's problems," then you're too busy. If you're too busy for the Lord, brother or sister, you're too busy.
You have to be involved with Him on a daily basis, in the forever-and-ever capsule. You're in Christ. You're in God. You're in the Holy Spirit. Why? Because there is no condemnation to those who live in the Holy Spirit and forsake the flesh, sin, Satan, the world, death, hell, and the grave. Amen?
Verse 10: "The four and twenty elders fall down before Him that sat on the throne, and worship Him that liveth forever and ever..."
The Bible says that if we're in God, then we are the fullness of God. If we're the fullness of God, then we live forever and ever as well. Everything in heaven that God made gives glory to God. The angels give glory to God. The angels don't envy us, but they certainly respect us, because we are in the flesh, and that is a rough thing. We need help. We need Jesus. We need the Father. We need God Almighty, the forever-and-ever God, the forever-and-ever Christ, the forever-and-ever Spirit, to be in us so we can be lifted above all the weak and beggarly things of this earth.
What is weak and beggarly? Your flesh and my flesh. So we need something living inside of us that mortifies or deadens the flesh, to make it where we're not tempted that much. Now, we are going to be tempted, but the Lord gives us instructions when we are tempted. He says, flee from the very appearance of evil.
You say, "Well, it's easy for you because you're legally blind, Tony. And on top of that, you are confined to reading, praying, doing messages, and being busy about the Lord's business." Yes, and that's the way you will be if you're going to be in the forever-and-ever God, the forever-and-ever Jesus, and the forever-and-ever Holy Spirit.
Maybe you'd rather listen to "Barbara Ann" and other songs, because they have meter - one, two, three, and four. This is far more important than that.
The four and twenty elders fall down before Him that sat on the throne. They worship Him who lives forever and ever, and they cast their crowns before the throne. They were on earth, and they got crowns by doing the work of the Lord, by letting the Lord live in them and work in them, speak in them, preach in them, teach in them, prophesy in them, and do the things that people in heaven did in order to be there.
In other words, they didn't sit easy. There's no free lunch. You've got to do something. The Lord makes that very clear. He talks about ten virgins. Five were foolish and the other five were wise. Five of them were saved. They kept the lamp going. They kept the Spirit in them. They kept doing the work. The other five did not do the work. The Bible says that we are going to be judged by our works, whether we did works or not.
The ones who did the work got to go to heaven. Then comes the night of the Lord's coming. The five foolish ones came to the five wise virgins and said, "Look, loan us some of your oil, some of your Spirit of God." The others said, "Absolutely not." Do you think lazy people who have been lagging around for all these years are going to be given somebody else's salvation? My salvation was too precious for me to sell down through the years, and I didn't sell it, and so I'm going to heaven.
The Lord went on with the five wise virgins. The five foolish virgins were once saved, but they were not always saved, like the Baptists, Catholics, and other false religions teach. They were lost.
They say, "I almost made it. Why didn't You impress me, Lord?" The Lord would say to them, "I do impress you in the Word of God, because it's in My Word. But you didn't read it. You didn't reprove yourself with My Word." The reproof of the Word of the Lord is the way of life. When you reprove yourself over and over again, don't ever forget the pit you were dug out of. Don't ever forget how you were saved and how, at first, you were full of zeal and red-hot. Now you've turned lukewarm, and the Lord is not taking you with Him into heaven.
So we're going to stop now. It is time for us to be reconciled to God through the blood of Jesus. Say this prayer and become one with Christ, one with the Almighty.
My Lord and my God, have mercy upon my soul, a sinner. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God, and that He died on the cross and shed His precious blood for the forgiveness of all our former filthy sins. I believe that You, Father, raised Jesus from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. I open the door of my heart, and I invite You into my heart, Lord Jesus, Holy Father, Holy Spirit.
Into my heart, Jesus, wash all my filthy former sins away in the precious blood that You shed for me. You will not turn me away, Lord Jesus. You will save my soul. I know because Your Word says so. Your Word says that You'll turn no one away, and that includes me. Therefore, I know that You have heard me, and I know that You have answered me, and I know that I am saved. Therefore, I thank and praise Your holy name, Lord, for saving my soul.
Now just raise up your hands and praise and thank the Lord.
