Tony Alamo with Tony Alamo World Wide Ministries
Sermon 765A: Revelation 11
The Measuring Reed: Humility, the Two Witnesses, and the Golden Pipes
Summary
Archive Introduction and Opening Prayer
The program begins with a Help from Christ Ministries announcer introducing an archived message and providing contact information. Tony Alamo then prays that God will speak through him, heal the sick, save souls, and give the church power over what he calls the beast. He recounts a dream or vision in which golden pipes carried questions to heaven and returned answers to him. He connects that experience with a dream about marrying Susie and with his claim that their ministry triggered a worldwide revival. These supernatural and institutional assertions are presented as Alamo's testimony and beliefs.
You Can't Take It with You
Alamo introduces his recorded song "You Can't Take It with You." The lyrics contrast concern for money and social status with helping other people, brightening someone's day, and remembering that wealth cannot be carried into the afterlife. After the song, Alamo urges listeners to spend their lives serving the Lord. He argues that athletic skill, recipes, celebrity, money, media knowledge, and other accomplishments have no eternal value when separated from God. The song becomes the bridge into a larger warning against ego, arrogance, and self-importance.
Pride, Ego, and Spiritual Sanity
Alamo identifies pride and ego with blasphemy, the Antichrist spirit, and spiritual insanity. He uses Nebuchadnezzar's humiliation as an example of a ruler who credited himself for his power and was reduced to living among animals. Alamo criticizes people who boast about professional, athletic, domestic, artistic, or intellectual abilities. He defines normality as humbling oneself before God, accepting salvation, and obeying divine instruction. Throughout this discussion, he contrasts human claims of self-sufficiency with his belief that genuine knowledge and wisdom come only from God.
The Measuring Reed and the Temple
Turning to Revelation 11:1-2, Alamo interprets the reed like a rod as the Bible, a measuring standard for the church and individual believers. He says the temple represents believers, the altar represents the human heart, and worship occurs within people in whom God lives. He describes removing people from his churches when they enter with contrary doctrine or attempt to teach rather than learn. Alamo interprets the unmeasured outer court as representing unbelievers who are already outside the spiritual temple. He understands the 42-month trampling of the holy city as persecution of God's kingdom within believers.
The Two Witnesses and Golden Pipes
Revelation 11:3-4 leads Alamo to the two witnesses, 1,260 days, sackcloth, two olive trees, and two candlesticks. He interprets sackcloth as fasting and prayer that prepare the witnesses to prophesy accurately. He then moves to Zechariah 4:1-5, where a golden candlestick, bowl, pipes, and olive trees provide a parallel image. Alamo connects the golden pipes with his reported experience of questions traveling to God and answers returning rapidly into his spirit. He closes this section by emphasizing the biblical speaker's admission that he did not understand and by contrasting that humility with intellectual pride.
Salvation Prayer and Closing Invitation
Alamo ends before completing Zechariah 4 and promises to continue explaining Revelation 11 in the next program. He identifies Mystery Babylon with the Vatican and describes this as part of his theological interpretation of world institutions. He invites listeners to accept Jesus Christ and leads a prayer affirming Jesus' death, blood, resurrection, forgiveness, and entrance into the believer's heart. Sharon gives the ministry website, email, mailing address, and telephone number for obtaining the program. A Help from Christ Ministries announcer then repeats the separate ministry contact information and invites audience responses.

Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher
Right now, let's pray.
Father, anoint me so that whatever You want said in this message today, You will pipe it through me.
I remember what looked like a couple of golden pipes pulling things out of me and carrying them up to the throne. Another pipe came down into me and seemed to show me millions of answers to questions.
After that happened, even though I was a young Christian, I had confidence and felt enlightened as never before in my life. I had confidence to have Susie as my wife. That was part of the dream or vision You gave me about being married to her. She had also received a dream from You throughout the night about us being married.
The proof that it was from You, Lord, I believe, is that through us You triggered a worldwide revival. I say that it is becoming bigger and stronger every day.
I believe the devil, government, cults, the false prophet, and other powers of Satan have done everything they know to stop us, but we are unstoppable. Therefore, I believe we are among those You called in these last days to do the mighty things we have done.
Lord, heal the sick and raise people from the dead. Everyone in the world is dead in sins and trespasses. I pray that You will raise them from that spiritual death through this broadcast.
Use me in a special, supernatural way to cause this to happen. Rebuke Satan and bless us. In Jesus' name, I pray that souls will be saved and the church given power over the beast. In Jesus' name I pray. Everyone says amen.
Speaker 3 - Congregation / Group Response
Amen.
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher
All right. Here is a song I recorded some time ago called "You Can't Take It with You."
Speaker 4 - Tony Alamo / Prerecorded Song Performance
Traffic in a turmoil by the sidewalk,
Somewhere someone left to meet their fate.
Other people stand around and just talk
When they could do more than just debate.
Everybody's sweating about the dollar,
Yelling, "Penny saved is penny earned."
How's it going to help them when they holler
If it sends them to a place to burn?
You can't take it with you where you're going.
There's no place to spend it either way.
You might as well get satisfaction knowing
Someone had a little brighter day.
Help somebody turn a tear to laughter.
Ease some irritation along your way.
There's no social standing in the hereafter.
Everybody dies the same old way.
You can't take it with you where you're going.
There's no place to spend it either way.
You might as well get satisfaction knowing
Someone had a little brighter day.
[One lyric line is unclear in the provided transcript.]
You can't shut the Lord out, don't you know?
Helping others can be fun to see,
Because you can't take it with you when you go.
So you can't take it with you when you go.
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher
Praise the Lord. You can't take anything with you. You might as well spend your life serving the Lord.
I teach that the spirit of Antichrist is the spirit of blasphemy and the spirit of the beast. When people become full of ego and pride, which I identify with blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, they go mad.
I say government appears insane today. Pride also drove Nebuchadnezzar insane. God sent him into the field to eat grass like an ox or cow because he was so full of pride and arrogance that he thought everything he possessed came from himself.
Today, people appear on television and elsewhere acting as though they know everything. If you don't know God, I say you don't know anything.
People say, "I have the best recipe. I want to teach you. I'm a teacher." I interpret that attitude as pride, ego, and arrogance. What good will a recipe do when you stand before the Lord?
Someone else says, "I'm the best basketball, football, or baseball player in the world. I hit so many home runs. I took vitamins or steroids. When I retire, I will teach children to have the same ego I have."
The person thinks, "What matters is what I know. Nobody knows as much as I do, so I have the right to teach." I describe that as pride and blasphemy.
It does not matter eternally whether you play basketball, football, or baseball; know how to box; have recipes; read the news; possess a good speaking voice; or are a great singer. The world tells you that you're going to be somebody, while I believe it is filling you with pride and arrogance.
I say the beast and the Antichrist system pump into people's minds the idea that they are important in themselves. The Lord, however, resists those who are full of pride.
The devil said in heaven, "I will be God. I will teach everyone everything. I will teach people how to be evil." I describe Satan as insane and as a teacher of sensuality, perversity, and other conduct I condemn.
Anything apart from the Lord, I teach, is insanity. People ask, "What is normal?" My answer is that the opposite of insanity is humbling yourself before God, accepting Him as your personal Savior, and doing what He says. He is the only One who knows everything.
Now let's return to Revelation chapter 11. I read two verses yesterday, and I'm going to start again.
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher, Reading Revelation 11:1
"And there was given me a reed like unto a rod."
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher
John the Revelator wrote the Gospel of John, First, Second, and Third John, and the book of Revelation, as I understand it. He received these things from the Lord.
John says a reed was given to him. He did not claim to possess the rod through his own knowledge. He was humble.
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher, Reading Revelation 11:1
"And the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein."
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher
John did not say he learned everything by himself. The angel stood before him and told him these things.
I compare that with my own preaching. I did not know these things before I believe the Lord told them to me, any more than listeners knew them before hearing the message. Without the Lord, I don't know anything.
People once thought I was a genius at promotion and publicity, but I knew I had been bitter and full of hatred before I was saved and before the Lord spoke to me about heaven and hell.
When I said Susie was smarter than I was, I believe the Lord answered, "That's good for your ego. That's good for your pride." I didn't know I had pride, but I did have pride in being a good promoter and someone who knew how to sell things.
I was humbled when the Lord told me things because God knows everything, while I know nothing compared with Him.
I say other people are inflated by false teaching in schools, government, and media: "You can be anything you want." The only thing you should truly want, I teach, is to be a Christian and have God's knowledge, wisdom, and understanding within you.
The reed is like a rod, or measuring stick. I interpret the measuring stick as the Bible. By looking into Scripture, we can measure how large we appear in our own eyes, how full of pride we are, and how much meekness we have before God.
The Bible is not meant to create the false impression that you know everything by yourself. There are hundreds of millions of possible messages in the Word of God.
I have taught listeners many things about God, but I have not taught everything I believe I know. I say there are millions more messages that could be brought forth, all designed to humble people by showing them what they did not previously know.
People take notes and try to remember, but the main point is to become meek. The more meek and humble you become before God, the more the Lord can take you away from what I call madness and insanity.
When you are full of pride or blasphemy, I teach that you are spiritually lost. You are troubled, worried, grasping for something to steady yourself, and trying to learn quickly. Then you forget quickly because you want to break free and say, "I learned all this on my own. I know as much as God. I am like the Most High."
I call that thinking madness. You must recognize it and become humble and meek before the Lord so He can draw you away from it.
The Lord knows you do not know everything. He knows, in biblical language, that you are blind, wretched, naked, and poor. He wants you to learn well enough that you never forget.
John listened because he did not think he knew everything. Even what I say I know about the Antichrist came, in my belief, because the Lord showed it to me.
The angel told John to rise and measure the temple of God. I interpret believers as the temple of God. How do we measure that temple? I say the measuring stick is the Bible.
We can read Scripture, observe how people act and speak, and determine whether they are full of self, pride, blasphemy, or what I call spiritual insanity.
If someone enters one of our churches and says, "I don't believe this church is of the Lord. I will bring in my own doctrine," that person ends up outside. We have bouncers remove disruptive people, or they can leave without a debate. We tell them, "Goodbye. You came here to learn, not to teach."
If they will not accept that, they are not allowed back into the church.
I interpret the altar as the human heart and "them that worship therein" as people worshiping within the temple. Believers are the temple of God because God is in them, so they worship Him within themselves. Hallelujah. Amen.
Now verse 2.
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher, Reading Revelation 11:2
"But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not."
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher
The angel instructs the humble John to leave out the court outside the temple. I interpret people outside as already measured and spiritually lost. I say they are marked by blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which I teach is unforgivable in this world and the next.
I describe them as chaff destined to be burned. The passage says to leave them out and not measure them.
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher, Reading Revelation 11:2
"For it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months."
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher
What is the holy city? I teach that believers are spiritual Israel and that their eternal city is the kingdom of heaven. In spiritual terms, the holy city is the kingdom of God.
How can unbelievers tread it underfoot for 42 months? I interpret this as persecution of the kingdom of God, which is within believers, the temples of the Lord.
Continue.
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher, Reading Revelation 11:3-4
"And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
"These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth."
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher
I interpret sackcloth as representing fasting. When people fast, they humble themselves and earnestly pray so they can prophesy properly rather than teach something that is not the Word of God.
God says He will give power to His two witnesses. I understand that to mean they already have power, but He will give them more. They will prophesy for 1,260 days while clothed in sackcloth.
The passage calls them two olive trees and two candlesticks standing before the god of the earth. I identify the god of this earth as the devil.
Now I want to show you where these two are mentioned in the Old Testament. Turn to Zechariah chapter 4. Without knowing the Old Testament, I say you cannot fully understand the New Testament.
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher, Reading Zechariah 4:1-2
"And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep,
"And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold."
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher
I interpret the golden candlestick as a true church that preaches the entire Word of God as it is.
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher, Reading Zechariah 4:2-3
"With a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
"And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof."
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher
This reminds me of the experience I described when I believe the Lord showed me my wife. I could hardly believe God was telling me to marry her because I was a new Christian.
I said, "She is smarter than I am." I saw what I describe as a golden pipe carrying the truthful concern from my heart to the Lord. I then received the answer through another golden pipe: "This is good for your ego."
More questions came from my heart so quickly that they seemed like a fire hose sending hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of questions upward. Answers seemed to return just as quickly through the other golden pipe into my spirit.
I could not distinguish each answer, but I felt that I suddenly knew many things. I felt comfortable, knowledgeable, and wise. The Lord said He would do a quick work in the last days, and I believe He did that with me. Learning those things ordinarily would have taken me a very long time, yet I was a new Christian.
Revelation calls the two witnesses two olive trees. Zechariah describes two olive trees beside the golden bowl, one on the right and one on the left.
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher, Reading Zechariah 4:4-5
"So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?
"Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord."
Speaker 2 - Tony Alamo / Preacher
He admitted that he did not know. I say the same: "I don't know these things, my Lord. I am not a know-it-all."
I am not like people who boast that they are the best basketball, football, or baseball players; have the best recipes; clean a house better than anyone; type better than anyone; or excel at some other skill.
I say, "I don't know, Lord, and I admit it. Teach me. Whatever You say, let spiritually troubled people have an opportunity to see what they do not know."
The angel wants people to know because they did not know before. I believe carnal people cannot fully receive spiritual teaching. If they try to dissect what the Holy Spirit is telling the church, they will be unable to receive it.
Some say, "I'm a computer person. I made more money than anyone because I'm intelligent." I believe the more people become filled with ego, arrogance, and pride, the harder it is for them to receive the kingdom of heaven, the Word of God, and salvation through Jesus Christ.
They push God away and become like beasts. I connect this with Nebuchadnezzar. I say pride drove him insane, and the Lord put him in the field, where his hair became matted, his nails grew like a bird's claws, and he ate with cattle.
Nebuchadnezzar had ruled Babylon, the greatest kingdom on earth in his time. I distinguish historical Babylon from what I call Mystery Babylon.
I identify Mystery Babylon with the Vatican and describe it as a mysterious worldwide system involving different parts of the Catholic Church, including the Jesuits. These are my religious and political interpretations.
The biblical speaker said, "No, I don't know these things, my lord." That is where we must stop today. We'll take this up tomorrow.
It is time for you to be united with the God of heaven and earth, the God of everything. I teach that He is sovereign even over Satan.
God says that if you do what He commands, you will go to heaven; if you reject Him, you will go to hell. He allows you to decide where you will spend eternity.
He says, "Accept Me, and you will go to heaven. Reject Me, and you will not." If you say, "I'm not going to do it right now," I regard that as rejecting Him.
Don't reject the Lord. I believe He wants you in the kingdom of heaven rather than suffering on earth, in hell, and in the lake of fire.
Say:
"My Lord and my God, have mercy upon my soul, a sinner. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God.
"I believe that He died on the cross and shed His precious blood for the forgiveness of all my former filthy sins. I believe that You, Father, raised Jesus from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit.
"I open the door of my heart and invite You into my heart, Lord Jesus, Holy Father, and Holy Spirit.
"Jesus, wash away all my former filthy sins in the precious blood You shed for me on the cross at Calvary.
"You will not turn me away, Lord Jesus. You will save my soul. I know because Your Word says so. You value Your Word higher than Your name. Therefore, I trust Your Word and love Your Word.
"I know You've heard me. I know You've answered me. I know I'm saved. Therefore, I praise and thank You, Lord."
Raise your hands, praise the Lord, and thank Him for saving your eternal soul.
