Luk-E Charm with Host Charm
Give Yourself Permission: Presence, Healing, and the Courage to Choose Again
Summary
Why Old Patterns Can Survive New Awareness
Charm opens the conversation by asking why people can experience healing, spiritual awakening, and greater peace yet still react from old memories and repeat familiar decisions. Lucia answers that behavior may be shaped not only by personal experience but also by family patterns, generational influences, social conditioning, school, and the wider collective environment. She describes these as adaptive patterns that can pull a person away from what she calls their “true resonance.” The conversation frames healing as more than intellectually understanding an experience; it involves recognizing what is still operating beneath conscious awareness. Both speakers return repeatedly to the question of whether current choices are coming from old programming or from a more authentic present-moment state.
Returning to Love, Presence, and the Feeling of Home
Lucia describes a person's deeper nature as light, love, and spirit rather than the social roles, approval-seeking patterns, reputation, money, or status that can become confused with identity. Charm and Lucia discuss happiness as a state of being and a repeated choice rather than something guaranteed by external circumstances. Their conversation uses “home” as a metaphor for a felt state of peace and love rather than a geographic destination. Lucia also describes listening to a near-death experience involving an overwhelming feeling of warmth and love and connects that description with the episode's opening lyrics about bringing spirit back to life. From there, she introduces the idea of “cosmic silence,” a present-moment space beneath distraction, drama, and story.
Being the Example Instead of Controlling the Environment
Charm asks how parents can support children who are exposed to criticism, pressure, and conditioning in school and other environments. Lucia avoids offering a universal formula and instead suggests becoming an example of love, awareness, kindness, patience, forgiveness, and understanding. She emphasizes presence: when doing the dishes, driving, talking on the phone, or listening to a child, bring full attention to the activity and person in front of you. The speakers discuss the present moment as the place where personal power and aliveness are available, while fixation on past and future can pull attention away from what is happening now. They also explore neutrality as a way of allowing different opinions and preferences to exist without immediately turning them into judgments of right and wrong.
Courage, Pain, and Authentic Expression
The conversation turns toward trauma, difficult emotions, and the tendency to run from discomfort. Charm describes having used distance and avoidance in the past and says those strategies once helped her survive but no longer work for her. Lucia emphasizes the courage required to feel emotions, enter resistance, have hard conversations, and become curious about the internal dialogue behind reactions. They describe pain and struggle as experiences that can contain lessons, while stressing the need to meet what is present rather than continually escaping it. Later, Lucia speaks about authentic expression through tears, art, poetry, music, dance, exercise, letters, anger, and other ways of moving emotional energy rather than suppressing it.
Permission to Rest, Choose, and Reparent Yourself
Lucia introduces her forthcoming book, Permission Slip, through a story about feeling guilty for resting as a new mother. She says she had internalized a belief that personal value depended on productivity and began putting a rock in a bowl whenever she relaxed as a way of celebrating self-care. She connects relaxation with safety, openness, restoration, and the ability to stop seeking security entirely outside oneself. The discussion expands into reparenting wounded younger parts of the self with presence and reassurance. Charm adds a humorous high-school story about taking permission slips from a teacher's desk and discovering that some classmates returned to unwanted classes even when they had an apparent route to freedom, prompting a conversation about how familiar structure can sometimes feel safer than open-ended choice.
Conscious Choice and Creating a New Relationship With Yourself
Lucia describes Permission Slip as a short roadmap built around possibilities, examples, and an invitation for readers to write their own permission slip. She says conscious living means choosing deliberately rather than allowing circumstances and automatic habits to determine every response. During a brief guided exercise, she invites listeners to breathe, drop attention into the heart, ask what the heart needs or desires, and then decide whether they are willing to put that message into action. The closing discussion emphasizes authenticity, curiosity, honest conversation, acceptance, and giving feelings a place to be heard without being made wrong. Lucia describes this kind of accepting space as capable of producing an inner shift, while Charm closes by encouraging listeners to give themselves permission and thanking Lucia for helping hold that space.

The host explicitly introduces herself as Charm near the beginning of the program. She conducts the interview, shares personal experiences of healing and trauma, asks the primary questions, discusses consciousness, presence, parenting, emotional patterns, and closes the program.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans, Guest
Charm introduces the guest as “Lucia Nikola Evans” and describes her as a spiritual mentor, relationship expert, and coach. During the conversation the host also addresses her as “Nicola” and later as “Lucia.” The full name and exact spelling should be verified if publication requires absolute precision.
Speaker 1 - Prerecorded Opening Song Voice: You remember her? There was a time she stood so tall, a shining light above her song. Now we rise. Yeah, we stand again. Bring her back to life. Let her spirit rise again. [Unclear lyric.] Hear the call. Oh, baby.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Wow. Hello, everybody. Welcome to another show of Luk-eCharm. I'll be your host, Charm, today. I'm so excited to have you here, and I have a beautiful, divine, special guest with me today.
I'm going to get right to it. I know we had a little bit of a later start. Thank you, BBS, for all your hard work, for your tenacious love and commitment to allowing the space for us to connect with each other. Thank you so much.
I'm so excited. You know when we're waiting - I'm sure you've experienced this - when we're so excited for something and we're waiting for it, it seems like time goes a little bit slower. I have been waiting for this day, and I'm so excited to introduce our guest, none other than Lucia Nikola Evans, who, in my opinion, is a spiritual mentor, relationship expert, and coach.
In my opinion, she has mastered an understanding of what it means to be a spirit, a light, a consciousness - whatever you want to call it - experiencing itself through this human body, this flesh, if you will.
I've had the pleasure and honor of collaborating with her and working with her. She has helped me tremendously. I've had a lot of help, and I'm so grateful to have connected with her. She's absolutely a beautiful, beautiful spirit, and you'll see for yourself here in a minute.
She's also been - I'm not sure if I'm allowed to announce this yet, but I know, and I'm going to - working on a book that I'm so excited about and can't wait to read. I have immense gratitude for her.
So, without any further ado, Nicola, are you here with us?
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: I am here. Thank you so much for having me, Charm. I really appreciate you making the time and space for this amazing conversation that we're going to have.
Thank you so much for gracing us with your presence here on this earth, which is misspelled - it should be called “heart.” And I speak for everyone when I say thank you for gracing us. That goes for the rest of the listeners, too. You're all gracing this beautiful planet with your presence and your energy. So thank you to everyone for spending your Sunday afternoon with us.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Thank you so much. Well, I don't know if you got the memo or not, but this is actually going to be a comedy show.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: This isn't always a comedy show. We're just being invited into this play called life.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Mm-hmm.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: It really is comedy at the end of the day. And what could be more healing than that, my friend?
Speaker 2 - Charm: Right. I have a couple of topics that I'm inspired to speak with you about, or collaborate with you on, and I have a feeling we're going to be on the same page.
I feel like a lot of us, maybe over the past couple of years, have been realizing - I'll speak for myself - that we actually are consciousness and spirit, God experiencing itself through this human body. A lot of us have awakened to that and have had tremendous healing.
I started noticing, okay, I have this healing, I have peace, I get it, I understand it. But there were still events that were, for lack of a better word, triggering or not to my liking. I found myself questioning: With all the understanding and clearings I've done, and with your help and many others, why am I still acting a certain way? Why is that movie still playing in my head as if it's happening right now? Why am I making these decisions based on previous experience?
That's what led me back to you, and thank you so much for helping me with that. I guess I'm asking: Some of us will go and get healing, however that healing happens, but we still find ourselves making the same decisions. Where is that coming from? Why can't some of us move past that?
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Great question. Yes, it's not just ours. A lot of it is generational and ancestral. We take it on not just from our familial line; we'll take it on from the collective field or conditioning that we've been told - how to be, how to act, how to behave in school, in society, and in our immediate surroundings.
So we take on these different thought forms and conditions that can adapt our behavior away from our natural state. They are sort of adaptive ways of behaving that are not always in alignment with spirit, with our true resonance.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Resonance. That's so beautiful. It's not in alignment with who we truly are. So who are we? What does “true resonance” mean to you?
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: It's kind of like heart coherence, where there's a purity of love that we came from and that we all are. Often what happens is we forget. We came here to remember who we truly are, which is light, which is pure love.
We have a personality and we have roles, but we are not those roles. We play those characters out. What gets confusing is when I'm looking to get my father's approval for something, and I'll act a certain way to try to get his approval. That is adapting my behavior to get something.
Or if I want to look good, look a certain way, make lots of money, have a good reputation, or gain credibility that I'm successful because of all this money and fame - it's elusive. When it disappears, it becomes: Then what am I without that?
There are lots of stories where people have gone down that road of fame and fortune and then recognized that this isn't it either. That isn't their path to fulfillment. I'm not going to find happiness and fulfillment in that lifestyle.
That requires us to start investigating differently if we're looking for something of substance, something that's not going to go away.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Would you say happiness is a state of being regardless of circumstances?
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Definitely. And it's a consistent choice, a constant choice that we get to make every day. I mean, this is definitely not the easiest place to live on earth.
Speaker 2 - Charm: That's correct. You brought up that “earth” and “heart” have the same letters. We need more heart to live on this earth because it can feel pretty rigid, cold, and harsh.
God, I love that. I love loving. I just love it. I'm not saying I've never been in a lower frequency where I've gotten angry or resentful. I've definitely been there. But you nailed it.
Again, if we talk about light, as you were talking about light, light travels faster than anything. There have been times on the show when I've said my goal is to have a billion listeners, and I'm sure some people are like, “Okay, good luck.” But in reality, when I speak to you and when I genuinely and authentically - whatever word you want to use - tell you, transmit to you, how much I love you, the whole planet just heard it, didn't they?
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: It just makes my heart smile. When you say it like that and you're really saying it like you mean it, I get the transmission immediately. It feels normal. It feels like home.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Yes. Sometimes I'll have discussions with many people, and they say, “I just want to go home. I can't do this. I'm not coming back here. I'm going home.” And it's because our natural state of being - peace and love - is what feels like home. Home is not a geography or another planet or whatever. It's the state of being regardless of circumstances, wouldn't you say?
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Yeah. I was listening to an NDE earlier today, a near-death experience, where this lady had multiple experiences of leaving her body and entering this space. She described it like this warmth enveloping her, a love she'd never experienced before.
The closest love I can equate it to is a mother with her children, or what I have with my puppy. It's just this adoring, deep love that you can't explain. It's a depth of feeling. It just feels so good.
It's almost like - I hate to call it a drug - but it's exciting and contagious.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Yeah, it's contagious.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: You had in the lyrics, “Bring her back to life, spirit rise again, bring her back to life.” For me, love is spirit. Spirit is that thing you can experience inside this love - life itself, the aliveness, what brings the innocence back and restores the sacred back to its original form.
Can we release all the stuff that's getting in the way and recognize that this is our birthright? This is who we are from birth and pre-birth, which so many of us have forgotten.
This sacred way of living, which is pure and innocent, is always here. It's what's behind everything. If we can tap back into that space and release all the distractions and all the drama and all the stories that we get to believe, can we release it all and return to the felt-sense experience of the here and now?
Inside of that there's this cosmic silence. I actually have a new poem that I was just writing. I was having a conversation with a friend of mine and I said, “Oh, that's a great title for a new poem: Cosmic Silence.”
Speaker 2 - Charm: Love that. What we're talking about is not some [unclear word], you know? You just can't argue with this, because to me it's proven. This is the truth. You're all getting the truth right now.
You know Dr. Emoto. I'm sure a lot of people listening have heard of him. He claimed that - and I don't like the word “claimed”; for me this is a factual experiment - human consciousness, words, and intentions can physically change the molecular structure of water. He did it by photographing frozen water crystals after exposing them to positive or negative words, music, and prayer - I would say intentions - stating that positive energy creates beautiful geometric crystals while negative energy creates distorted shapes.
So, as you mentioned earlier, this is a difficult place to be in a state of purity, light, love, and peace. It is challenging. However, it's possible because, if water is this powerful and we're all technically over seventy-five percent water, we're just walking glasses of water constantly receiving and transmitting, and water has memory. So this is absolutely possible to accomplish here.
I guess I'm leading into this: If that's the case, how do we help, assist, or guide? For example, the education system or the workplace is not always a friendly space. No matter how amazing a parent can be, our children are still exposed to an environment where they're being told, “If you don't turn in your homework, you're X, Y, and Z,” or “If you don't get your job done, you're X, Y, and Z.” If we're water and that's getting recorded, and water has memory, what can we do as parents to help our children? I know it's a big question.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: What comes to me first - and I'm not here to tell people the answer to everything, because I'm more in love with the questions than the answers. I don't claim to know everything. In fact, I'm having a love affair with the unknown. That's more interesting to me.
What comes to me as you say that, and as I feel into the question, is to be the example of love. Be the example. Change the example of consciousness and bring awareness, kindness, patience, and understanding to the space, no matter who it is - our children, teachers, the education system, or whatever it is.
We're going through a massive shift, and inside of this shift we get to recalibrate and be more understanding and forgiving of ourselves and one another: how we talk to ourselves, how we talk to each other, and how we really open the space to understand where other people are coming from.
Try to listen from consciousness, from awareness, because awareness itself is neutral. It doesn't have an opinion. If we start listening from right or wrong, good or bad, and point the finger at what you should and shouldn't do, then we're creating more ripples of judgment and making wrong in the space.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Beautiful. So basically - I know we're not telling anyone how to do it, and I don't have a cookie cutter. There is no cookie cutter. But it kind of boils down to: Be the example. Be healed. Be unconditional love.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Yeah. To me, another word for that is presence: to be fully present with whatever you're doing, to be committed. If you're doing the dishes, having a conversation, talking to someone on the phone, or driving, whatever you're doing, bring your full attention to what's in front of you.
When your child is looking for attention, wants to show you their homework, needs assistance, or says, “Can you help me? Can you come play with me?” bring your full attention and focus to whatever you're doing. That is a beautiful example of being the example, of being fully present to whatever we're committed to in the moment.
Speaker 2 - Charm: I love that. It's like, wherever you are, be there.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Exactly. Remember Ram Dass? I think it was “Be Here Now.” That was his mantra.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Uh-huh. We're so - I mean, it's not our fault. It's the way the brain works, and that's just the way it is. But it definitely is a muscle that can be trained, to be here and not be in the past, which is where a lot of us can sometimes get stuck.
I myself was stuck, as you witnessed. It took a lot of courage for me to talk to you about certain stuff, and you're more than welcome to ask me any questions if you feel it will benefit anyone. But, yeah, being here right now - because the past is gone.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Yeah. The past is gone, and then there's just the present. But if we're in our minds thinking about the past or the future, we're not here now. We're not fully present to this moment, which is where our power is, where our spirit lives, where life really exists - right here, right now.
It's the energetic of life itself that brings aliveness, that quality of sparkle.
Speaker 2 - Charm: That's so beautiful. I had a great business mentor who used to tell me, “Imagine you're sitting in a room. There's a wall to your left and a wall to your right. On one wall you have all the stuff you don't want: the debt, the marital issues, the work you hate, all the stuff you don't want. Then, on the wall to the right, envision all the things you do want: the trip you want to take, the money you want to make, the relationships you want to have, all the dreams you want.”
He used to say, “Now sit there and try to look at both walls at the same time.” It's impossible. It's absolutely impossible. It feels like that's what we do. We keep thinking about the past, and we're wondering why we're not manifesting our most amazing dreams.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Life is sometimes difficult, right?
Speaker 2 - Charm: Yeah.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: That's also a lesson: how are we going to navigate the hurt? Are we going to be bitter, resentful, and unforgiving, or are we going to learn from the experience of what the hurt gave us? Because there is actually a gift in pain.
Speaker 2 - Charm: There is. I know it's sometimes hard to find.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Right, but there is. If everything were given to us on a silver platter, we wouldn't really need to grow or learn anything. Part of the struggle and the suffering brings lessons for our soul to grow.
Speaker 2 - Charm: It really does. I feel like I am a perfect poster child for that. To go from the conversations I've had with you to where I am now - I'm in heaven, absolute heaven, and grateful. I'm not going to really talk about my past, but there was definitely a lot of trauma. A lot of trauma. But how am I here talking about it right now? I had a lot of help.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: You've also had the courage to meet it and embrace it, and you wanted to make a shift. That is key. If someone isn't willing and wanting to actually meet their stuff, they're not going to really make a shift. It's just going to continue, and after a while that person is going to feel stuck.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Definitely. Something I try to do is, when something happens, I almost immediately recognize that the universe is a mirror. Sometimes it's not easy to absorb and accept because I'm like, “Oh, I don't like that. Why is that showing up?”
Because it's a mirror. It's an absolute mirror. So I look at that, even if it's something I don't like, and I'm able to use it to my advantage: “Okay, something's going on here because this is what's showing up.”
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Right. You're one hundred percent right. It takes courage, and it takes being honest with yourself. It takes a lot of courage - the courage also to feel the feelings.
If you're avoiding having a hard conversation, making a change, or entering into the discomfort of whatever is in front of you, it's going to affect how you feel. The invitation is to open your heart and meet life, meet the resistance, feel it, and enter it. Feel the pain. Feel the discomfort. Sit in it. No running away, because ultimately there's nowhere to run to anyway.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Oh my God, I'm like a master runaway. Seriously, how do you run away from your thoughts? You can't. They follow you everywhere. It's like, “Wait, why is this happening over here? I'm ten thousand miles away.” It's incredible to watch and experience.
And you know what? It worked for me at the time. I'll be honest. It worked for me because I didn't have these tools. I didn't know anything, so that's what it took for me, for lack of better words, to stay alive. But it doesn't work anymore.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: I remember when I was first on this journey of really wanting to shift my mindset and get really clear on my internal dialogue and how it was affecting my attitude and everyday experience. I would replace judgment with curiosity and open to: “What is it that I really need to learn here? What am I missing?”
So it became more of an investigation rather than getting it right, because I think that's such a program in many of us: “I want to get life right. I want to get this relationship right. I want to do well in whatever.” That can also be a trap, going down that road, because there is no right or wrong - well, to spirit there isn't.
It's all a matter of perspective. Who's looking? Where are you making your decisions from? What are you identifying with? What story are you telling yourself about yourself, the situation, or the person?
Speaker 2 - Charm: The information changes when you recognize what's really happening.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Exactly. We're like meaning-making machines, based on preferences of how we want things to go. But preferences can also get in the way if they're in competition.
I have preferences. You have preferences. Don has preferences. We all have preferences. Can we understand that we can have different, even opposite, preferences or opinions and hold the space - which is neutral, which is spirit, which is presence - so the differences can be there without making them right or wrong, good or bad?
Can we be that space of neutrality where sometimes opposing preferences or opinions are simply in the space? It comes with a deeper kind of questioning: “I get where you're coming from. I might not like it. I might not agree with it, but I can understand it nonetheless.” And that creates connection.
I feel like this is what we're learning in the collective field right now: learning how to work through differences and learning how to create connection, coming from that sense of loneliness and isolation and doing everything so independently. We're learning how to create a healthy interdependence.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Yes, one hundred percent. I thought it was just for me, but you're right. It must be happening collectively or you and I would not be here talking about it right now. So beautiful.
There's a quote from a movie called Patch Adams with Robin Williams, where he plays a doctor in a hospital. I don't know if you've seen it.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: I adore that movie.
Speaker 2 - Charm: One of the quotes is, “You treat a disease, you win, you lose. You treat a person, I guarantee you'll win, no matter what the outcome.”
Instead of treating a disease, when we're in a state of unconditional love and peace, it travels everywhere.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Yes. And you know what he did, Robin Williams, who played the character Patch Adams? He saw the person for who they are. He saw beneath the disease, and he loved them. Humor was his medicine - to see them and to connect with where they were.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Yes. They felt seen and received in what they were experiencing.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: He helped them get connected with their highest excitement and joy. One woman just wanted to swim in noodles. She had stopped eating and nothing was working. He knew exactly what to do for this woman to help her come back to herself so she would choose to keep living. What an amazing movie that was.
I wish that would happen all over the world, that we were able to really see each other behind the role, behind the good, the bad, and the ugly - the being, the divine, the sacred that is in our heart, longing to be met, longing to be seen, longing to be heard.
Speaker 2 - Charm: I mean, if we really desire to do something and we don't do it because of X, Y, and Z, we're going to get sick, wouldn't you say?
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: We can get sick when we hold everything in. In my teens, I didn't know how to speak and express myself. That's why one of my main things is authentic relating and authentic expression, because it's so important that we emote - whether through emotions, tears, art, poetry, music, dance, or whatever it is.
We're here to release the energy, move the energy, and open to letting go of what we're holding: the fear of judgment, being made wrong, making ripples. Sometimes it's healthy to be a little angry, or a lot angry, to release the energy.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Yeah. In San Diego, I know they have what are called rage rooms. I've never been, but there are such things.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: When I was really angry, I would focus the energy so I could get it out. Lots of us do sports or work out. Sometimes it's writing a letter to the person who left us, who's no longer here in physical form. Sometimes they're still here in physical form and we still need to write a letter to get it out - a first draft, so we don't say things we don't mean.
These things are important, that we address what's inside of us and don't hold it back until it becomes harmful to ourselves and our bodies. Let the energy move through. Then we get out of our own way, spirit can reside, and we can live from that space of flow.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Oh gosh, I love that, which leads me to your upcoming book, Permission Slip.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Yes. It is a permission slip. It was all inspired because, when I was a new mom, I remember I would feel guilty when I would relax or take a nap.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Wow.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: I'm like, “This is crazy. Where is this coming from?” It probably happened before then, but that's one memory I had. I created this game with myself: Anytime I would relax, I would put a rock in this bowl to celebrate that I was doing something to take care of myself.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Wow, that's awesome.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Guilt can take over - guilt and shame, and all the things I think I should be doing. Just taking a nap, something so simple, could bring so much guilt.
I grew up with this really strong belief that if you're not doing something of value and being productive, then you're not valuable, you're not contributing, you're lazy. You need to be doing something all the time to be of value.
I had to really unlearn that story. It wasn't true. Actually, through relaxation, I get a lot of my insights. I get a lot of things that come from my higher self and spirit.
It's important because when there's a softening and a relaxation, the nervous system gets to restore to its natural balance and then the energy flows. There's a deeper breath. There's an exhale. Everything can relax. Inside that relaxation, healthy relationships can start to form, and feeling safe and open - safe to open my heart - can happen, because there's a relaxation that I can rest in.
Then I'm not looking outside of myself for something that's right here.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Yeah, we're always looking for something outside of us - safety and security.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: It's like reparenting the little girl who may not have gotten the right parenting, the right nurturing and love. There's this ability to say, “Hey, my presence - I'm here with you, little girl. You're okay. You're safe with me. I've got you. I'm holding you. It's okay to be afraid, but know that I love you and I'm here.”
Then I can feel like I can relax. It's a practice. The work with the little ones, the wounded parts of ourselves, is that this presence, this unconditional love, can support and heal those parts of our humanity that don't feel so safe or don't find it easy to stay open or engage with life.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Really, this subject requires hours and hours of talking about it, but you're doing such an amazing job just with your words and your energy. I feel everyone is receiving your message. Thank you so much.
It's not an easy thing to explain sometimes. I was going to tell you a little fun story about permission slips. As soon as you told me, I thought, “Oh my gosh, that's so me when I was younger in high school.”
I was the ditcher. I used to ditch class a lot with my friends. It was just fun to ditch class and go eat something because some of us weren't interested or excited about certain courses. Of course we'd get in trouble with our parents and all that good stuff. I can't believe I'm admitting this on live radio, but I think it's funny.
I found a packet of permission slips on my teacher's desk one day. Being me, thinking, “Oh, I'm going to save everyone,” I took them and used them to excuse kids from class so they didn't get in trouble with their parents or school. It looked legit.
We did that for a minute, and this was the interesting part: They used it for a minute and then they were like, “No, I don't want to use it anymore. I'm going to go back to class.” They weren't going to get in trouble. Nothing was going to happen to them, and they absolutely hated or disliked the class they were in. Yet they went back to their old ways, thinking, “This is wrong.”
Someone's giving them a permission slip and they won't take it. I was dumbfounded. I was like, “Why? You'll be fine.” I got in trouble for it, but they didn't.
It's interesting, human nature. Sometimes you'll give someone a permission slip - “You're free” - and they won't take it.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Yeah. It's almost like when there's too much freedom, it's like, “Well, what do I choose? What am I going to do?” It can feel overwhelming when there's so much freedom.
You know, the average person who gets out of jail ends up going back. Why is that? Because it's scary when there's not enough structure. Familiar structure can feel safe.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Correct. It's all they know.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: We need parameters. We need to know what's expected. You know, go to school and the teacher will say, “This is what we're going to do today. We're going to have class from this time to this time, then lunch, another class, then recess,” or whatever. Then you kind of know where you are inside of the day, and it's like recalibrating to, “Oh, I know what's expected. I can relax.”
We're all kind of like that as we grow up, too. From my experience, from my view of what's possible, there is a path of really honoring myself and living from my authentic power, living from what's authentic to me, my own truth. We all have different things that resonate with us. We have different preferences, different likes, different hobbies. It's going to show up differently.
At the end of the book - you'll love this - I have “Create Your Own Permission Slip.” I have ten chapters of what's possible, and I'll give an example. Then you have an opportunity at the end to create your own permission slip.
Writing your own permission slip can really support you in giving yourself what you need, what feels honoring and empowering to you personally.
Speaker 2 - Charm: This is so cool. So I get to take your book and just hand it out like I did in high school?
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: On my website. We'll see if I put it on Amazon; I don't know for sure. I'm also going to do audio, so that makes it easy. It's going to be very simple, less than fifty pages.
It's more like a roadmap of what's possible through my own experience of what I've learned, and then saying, “Here, what would you like to create for yourself? What are you going to choose?”
I have this quote near the end: “I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become.”
Speaker 2 - Charm: That's cool.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Part of becoming conscious and becoming awake is having the ability to choose consciously, not live life by default because I'm a victim to my circumstances, but to choose consciously what I'm creating because I'm a co-creator with the universe.
That comes with really saying, “Okay, what is my intention? What do I want to create?” and then taking action, taking inspired action toward what is aligned with what my heart is desiring and what I'm intending to create.
How I show up in life and my intention behind my action are really important because, as you say, if words and intention change the molecular structure of water, just imagine how intention also changes how we relate with one another and the outcome.
Speaker 2 - Charm: That's so true. Sometimes I experience just sitting with someone and they may not even say a word, but I can feel them. You just can't lie about it anymore.
Others can feel us. That's why I did the work with you, because I am committed, as I know you are, to making this world a better place.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Can I do an exercise for a minute?
Speaker 2 - Charm: Please. Sure.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: If you would, those of you who are listening, just close your eyes and take a breath. Drop into your heart and tune in, just asking, “What is it that my heart needs right now? What is it that my heart is desiring?” Trust the first thing that comes to you.
Take another breath.
Now the question becomes: Are you willing to put that message, whatever came to you, into action? Give yourself a permission slip to follow through and create that for yourself.
Take another deep breath. Gently open your eyes.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Just like that. It's that easy.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: It really is that easy. And like you said, it's a decision. There's something really powerful about making decisions deliberately. Just choose: “I'm going to go here. I'm going to go there. I'm not going there. I'm going here. I don't know where I'm going; I'm just going to pause for a minute to catch up with myself.”
Speaker 2 - Charm: Yeah, regroup. Sometimes that takes a minute; sometimes it takes a few days. It depends on what you're going through.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: I'm going through a huge reset and starting a new chapter, literally birthing a book and opening to honoring what each person is going through. Recognize that there's power in being authentic. There's power in being honest. And it's okay, whatever it is.
But when you're not honest and authentic and transparent, what's there to work with? That's the question.
Speaker 2 - Charm: It's so true, especially when it's uncomfortable. “Oh, do I have to face this now? Do I have to have this conversation?” Maybe you think you know what the outcome is going to be.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: My invitation is to let go of thinking that you know and open to becoming curious that you might not know how it's going to turn out - the conversation, whatever it is that you're avoiding.
Maybe you need to make a change and you've been waiting for the right moment. Is there a right moment? Maybe there is, but sometimes it's like, “Can I delay it one more day?”
Speaker 2 - Charm: Oh, my happiness can wait until tomorrow. You're right. Tomorrow, I don't have to feel free.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Isn't that amazing? We imprison ourselves in our own minds. But it's habit. It's mostly automatic habit. By consciously choosing something different, we're creating something new from a different place - not from programming, but from heart, from soul - that can actually feed us on a deeper level, not just on the surface.
Another program I grew up with was, “Everything's okay,” when it's not. How do you speak the feelings you're really feeling in a space where there's no welcoming of authentic relating or authentic sharing? There's no space, then there's no way to be received without judgment, being made wrong, or being told, “You should be grateful for what you have.” That was another sort of energy stop.
Then I can't have the feelings I have. My feelings are wrong, or I shouldn't have them, because there's no place to express them where I'm going to feel received, gotten, and heard.
That's such an important part of what I do. I'm a sacred space holder. I hold the space for whatever wants to come and be met. We meet it. We let it rise up. All it's going to get is acceptance and love.
Then the most miraculous thing happens - you've experienced this, right?
Speaker 2 - Charm: Mm-hmm.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Something starts to happen, an alchemizing, a shifting of how it feels in your body. You're like, “Whoa.” Suddenly the mind is blown: “Who am I now in this new perspective, in this new space of relating with myself?”
Because I had the courage to have a look, challenge my beliefs, challenge the status quo, and challenge the conditioning that is so automatic and repetitive, which has kind of kept me asleep.
So the invitation is to check out your internal dialogue, make a conscious choice about what your heart is longing for, and give yourself permission to have, receive, and create what it is that you need, what you're longing for, what your body may be longing for, or what you want to create that you haven't done before.
Maybe it's to take a trip somewhere. Maybe it's to go on vacation by yourself or take a weekend by yourself. Sometimes doing things by ourselves can help reset the nervous system, help us come back to ourselves, and then we can be a better partner, colleague, or person to be with.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Love, love, love every second of collaborating and connecting with you. This has been a beautiful, sometimes painful journey; however, one hundred percent worth it.
Unfortunately, we're running out of time. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping us, helping me, guiding us, shining your light on us, and holding space for all of us.
It's truly been an absolute privilege and honor to have found you, Lucia. You're a beautiful, shining, loving spirit. And you know I'm not just saying this. You know I mean it. Thank you so much.
Speaker 3 - Lucia Nikola Evans: Thank you for having me. I feel so blessed.
Speaker 2 - Charm: Oh, thank you. Love you very much. Love everybody listening. We are really all on the same boat. Whether I've met you, connected with you, or talked to you or not, just know that I absolutely love you, because I just do.
With that, get your permission slips ready because we're going to have a lot of fun with that. Give yourself permission to do whatever you want to do. Thank you, BBS. Thank you, Lucia, again.
See everybody here in two weeks, same time, same place. God bless you all. Thank you so much. Signing off. Love you all.
Speaker 1 - Prerecorded Closing Song Voice: No more silence, no more fear. Her voice is stronger when we're here. Let her spirit rise again. [Final lyrics unclear.]
