ADAM WINKLER is a specialist in American constitutional law. His wide-ranging scholarship has touched upon a diverse array of topics such as the right to bear arms, corporate political speech rights, affirmative action, judicial independence, constitutional interpretation, corporate social responsibility, international economic sanctions, and campaign finance law. His work has been cited and quoted in landmark Supreme Court cases, including opinions dealing with the Second Amendment and with corporate political speech rights.
His commentary has been featured on CNN, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New Republic, and numerous other outlets. He is a contributor to The Daily Beast and The Huffington Post. Along with Professor Ken Karst of the law school and the late Pulitzer Prize-winning legal historian Leonard Levy, Adam edited the six-volume Encyclopedia of the American Constitution (2nd edition). His book for W.W. Norton titled Gunfight: The Battle over the Right to Bear Arms in America was published in 2011.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Adam went to the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University intending to join the CIA. But after graduating in 1990 he took the more mundane path of going to law school. He earned a law degree from New York University in 1993 and moved back to Los Angeles to practice law with noted criminal defense lawyer, Howard Weitzman, at Katten Muchin Zavis & Weitzman. In Adam’s first case out of law school, he worked with Weitzman representing the late Michael Jackson in a highly publicized child-olestation case. Adam was also part of the defense team that initially represented O.J. Simpson in the football player’s infamous murder trial. This was more than enough to convince Adam to return to academia.
Adam clerked on the United States Court of Appeals and then received a master’s degree in political science from UCLA under the mentorship of Professor Karen Orren. Prior to joining the UCLA faculty in 2002, he was the John M. Olin Fellow at the University of Southern California Law School’s Center in Law, Economics and Organization (2001-02).
Adam teaches Constitutional Law I, Professional Responsibility, Constitutional Theory, Gun ontrol and Firearms Policy.

According to the astrological signs of the Chinese and Maya, I was born a healer. People born under these signs have gifts. Mine is sensitivity to energy fields; I am an empathic and intuitive. I chose the path of natural healing (T.ND.) My studies became a journey rather than a destination. As my interest in chronic conditions grew, I explored emotional healing and metaphysics (PhD). Soon after, I began receiving invitations from elders of traditional cultures. They teach connection to the Earth and Oneness.
The insights from each of these philosophies blend to become a practice dedicated to achieving total well-being. My work with people is transpersonal, holistic and life enhancing. It offers them tools that encourage a proactive healing experience. As a holistic healer and student of subtle energy, it is my nature to watch for hidden components. If the adage “ truth will set you free” is accurate, then it will also heal all manner of chronic conditions, including poverty and gender inhumanities. Every lesson, every person, every experience is a footstep in the journey. The wisdom gleaned becomes the gems I offer students, clients and readers.
As a young girl, I wanted my life to be extraordinary; not rock star status, but one that would leave a gentle footprint. That desire was my beacon as I raised three children to become upstanding adults, then worked with women inspiring them to find security within. Healing is an introduction of new information, and teaching proactive skills has allowed my people to find wellness and happiness. Over the years, I have spoken to groups of more than a thousand people, and had the thrill of being a guest on numerous television programs and radio interviews. I have performed marriage ceremonies, given sermons, blessed houses and infants, and even delivered a baby. I have been planting seeds of change from Florida to Hawaii to Central America. All these were amazing experiences and, yet I am just beginning. I continue the journey today in Honduras with a Single Mothers Project.
Writing and speaking allow me to spread the message of healing through nutrition, kindness, and caring even further. When not consulting with clients over phone or internet, writing, or traveling to teach, I help where needed in my local Honduran community.
