For seven years after returning to the US from England, she published New Connexion, a body mind spirit magazine for the Pacific Northwest. Miriam is a long-time student of energy medicine and is a Reiki Master. Prior to embarking on the spiritual path, Miriam worked in hospital administration and industrial research funding, becoming VP of Finance and Administration of a multinational software company.

After moving to the UK, she was the Executive Director of a Public Health quango, and later General Manager of a medical manpower agency. A native of Venezuela and citizen of the world, Miriam speaks four languages and has lived on four continents. She has a BA in Romance Languages and Psychology from Boston University, and an MA in Psychology from the University of Virginia. One of my favorite philosophies of life was stated in a quote by Yoganonda---It states; "You must not let your life run in the ordinary way.  Do something that no one else has done; something that will dazzle the world. Show that God's creative principle works in you."

Growing up as an only child, I lived in a 3 generational family sharing moments of joy, grief in the complications of war, economic adversity and disappointment.  This was an accepted norm of life.

I found myself in a caregiving role with mother and grandparents. Excellence in sports and academics were my escape at that time.   Church services every Sunday created my foundation about religion and spirituality.  Many times, I fell asleep in the pews of the church but that was also a normal expectation of the times for me.

In my fantasies, I would dream about stage performances, being a concert pianist, and creating activities for  entertaining my active imagination.    

However, as luck would have it, my caregiving responsibilities  continued throughout my lifetime with my aging grandparents, mother, husband and 3 children as well as fulfilling my teaching degree.  It seemed I never had time to stop and smell the roses---just for me.   However, after my husband's bout with a 12 year illness of Cancer and diabetes ended, I created a workbook  designed to nurture and support the broad  category of Caregivers.  

This is only the tip of the iceberg.  My life's experiences have all been stepping stones to a greater self awareness of my creative choices.

I have a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology and graduate degrees in Theology and Spirituality. I am the author of three books on personal transformation and am fortunate to be an in-demand speaker and retreat leader.

Having been a Professor of Psychology and Spirituality as well as an ordained minister, I can relate to your desires to make positive and powerful change.

My background is not merely an academic one…I have real life experience and understand your life’s challenges. I was a Deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and retired from the Chino Police Department as a Sergeant; having worked in the patrol division, crime scene investigations, detectives and community relations.

I have been a consultant, trainer, retreat director and counselor in faith based settings, and served as a Priest in Episcopal congregations in California and Washington. In other words, I have seen people at their best and their worst and I understand what makes people “tick.” What I love about my work is that I am able to meet real people right where they are and use my 30 years of experience and education to make a difference.

Rebecca Winkler will talk about the impact of PTSD on veterans and their families and the tragedy of veterans who take their own lives because of PTSD, as her son Drew did.

JOHN POTASH has been featured on CSPAN’s American History TV and has been interviewed on dozens of radio stations around the U.S. and abroad. His work has also been published in the Baltimore Chronicle, the City Paper, Covert Action Quarterly, Rock Creek Free Press, and Z magazine. He has worked counseling people with mental health issues and addictions for over twenty-five years.

In May 2015, Potash released his book: Drugs as Weapons Against Us: The CIA’s Murderous Targeting of SDS, Panthers, Hendrix, Lennon, Cobain, Tupac and other Activists. Potash completed graduate studies at Columbia University. He published his first book, The FBI War on Tupac Shakur and Black Leaders, in 2007.
