Bassist
KARL VINCENT
Karl Vincent was raised in the East Bay of San Francisco Bay Area. His deep passion for music started at an early age as he began his music studies at the age of 10 on the guitar, later the violin, and then moved to the bass at 13. From this point on, music experiences came to him from many directions – orchestra, chamber music, jazz, popular music all became major areas of performance.
Rather than accept scholarship offers from many major universities and conservatories, Karl chose to move to Los Angeles and study. His teachers include bass masters Mercurio, Kestenbaum, Egilsson, and his mentor – legendary bassist Red Callender. UCLA took notice of Karl’s potential and he enrolled under a full music scholarship, one of several awards he would receive that also includes a grant from National Endowment for the Arts. While at UCLA, Karl met soon-to-be film composer Christopher Young and from there began a long successful association.
Young introduced Karl to several prominent musicians, composers, and contractors that recognized his unique skills and musicianship lifting his ubiquitous career as a bassist with the Long Beach Opera, Pacific Symphony, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and the illustrious Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. While living his dream, he has been fortunate to have toured or performed with many notable artists such as Lou Rawls, Woody Herman, Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett, Beyoncé, Josh Groban, Carrie Underwood, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, and countless others; recording credits include Ray Charles, Danny Peck, Fergie, and Jennifer Hudson. But you are more likely to find Karl as a soloist or either in or leading the bass section on TV shows such as Lost and Alias; and feature films like the recent hits Spiderman 3, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Speed Racer. Although his exceptional classical music skills are well known, this bassist has never let go of his jazz virtuosity and continues to explore popular music and world music grooves, with a focused interest in world music. Michael Joseph Farrell was born on February 6, 1939 in St. Paul, Minnesota. At the age of 2 a move to Hollywood, where his father's work as a studio carpenter provided young Mike's first glimpse of the world behind the studio walls, began his fascination with the "movies, one he has never fully lost.
After graduating from Hollywood High and a hitch in the Marines, he worked a number of jobs - including a stint as private investigator - while pursuing a career as an actor, beginning with small parts in films like "The Graduate" and "The Americanization of Emily".
Stage roles and small parts on TV eventually landed him in the soap "Days of Our Lives", where he starred as Scott Banning for two years. "Days" was followed by leading roles in two series, "The Interns" and "The Man and The City," then a four-year contract with Universal Pictures.
Mike is best known for playing Captain B.J. Hunnicutt in the ever popular series M*A*S*H. His eight years with the memorable show allowed the opportunity to both write and direct several episodes, earning him nominations for Director's Guild and Emmy Awards.
His first production experience outside of ""M*A*S*H was the CBS-TV film "Memorial Day", in which he starred opposite Shelley Fabares.
On the documentary front, among many others, Farrell co-hosted "Saving the Wildlife" for PBS, hosted "The Best of the National Geographic Specials" and had a great adventure scuba diving with his children, Michael and Erin, among hundreds of sharks in French Polynesia for "The World of Audubon".
On December 31, 1984 Mike married actress Shelley Fabares (star of ABC-TVs "Coach")
Together with partner Marvin Minoff he formed 'Farrell/Minoff productions'. Farrell/Minoff's first production was "Dominick and Eugene", a film starring Tom Hulce and Ray Liotta. After making a number of TV movies, one of their more recent productions is "Patch Adams", starring Robin Williams.
Beyond the film industry, Mike is a very active and outspoken citizen. Promoting human rights and opposing the death penalty are two of his prime concerns, making him a regular lecturer to interested audiences.
In 1996 Mike was presented the Valentine Davies Award by the Writers Guild of America, given to members: "whose contribution to the entertainment industry and the community-at-large have brought dignity and honor to writers everywhere."
In February 1998 Farrell was appointed to a three-year term on the Commission on Judicial Performance, an 11 member California State Commission that adjudicates complaints against judges in the state.
1998 also brought him NBC-TV"'s "Providence" playing veterinarian Jim Hansen with cast-mates Melina Kanakaredes, Concetta Tomei, Paula Cale and Seth Peterson.
In 2002 Mike was elected First Vice President of the Screen Actors Guild in Los Angeles and served three years in that capacity.
In 2004 he received the Donald Wright Award from California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, only the third time in its 28 year history that the award has been presented to a recipient who was neither a lawyer nor a judge.
In his spare time Mike loves to read, spend time with his wife and kids and enjoys cross-country motorcycling. His bike trips have crisscrossed, amongst others, the US, Canada, Australia and Europe.

Just Call Me Mike: A Journey to Actor and Activist
by Mike Farrell
From its opening pages, Mike Farrell’s new memoir reveals the distinctive voice of a man for whom life is an ongoing odyssey of self-discovery, personal commitment, and uncompromising social engagement.
With deep insight and disarming candor, Farrell describes his early years as a timid but restless teenager in West Hollywood, delivering groceries to the homes of Jack Benny, Lucille Ball, Jimmy Stewart, and countless other celebrities, while dreaming of having his own career as an actor. In stark but riveting language, he relates his formative years as a Marine recruit, confused, conflicted, and eager to prove himself as a man.
Farrell humorously portrays his professional development from a young soap opera player on Days of Our Lives to the amiable star of two popular television series, M*A*S*H and Providence, to the respected producer of successful motion pictures like Dominick and Eugene and Patch Adams.
At the heart of his story, Farrell narrates his public struggle to be a responsible citizen of the world. From his firsthand accounts of the ravages of war and oppression in Cambodia, El Salvador, Somalia, Bosnia, Rwanda, and the Gaza Strip, to his tireless advocacy against capital punishment, to his deep commitment to environmental causes, Farrell portrays each of these experiences with passion, outrage, and stubborn optimism.

NEW ALBUM 'GUILTY OF INNOCENCE'
NEW MUSIC VIDEO 'BEHIND THE CURTAIN'
Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius’ album GUILTY OF INNOCENCE (on Melodic Revolution Records) is set for college radio this February, with a new music video “Behind The Curtain.”
The video for “Behind the Curtain” features actor Max McGuire (“Star Crossed Lovers”) playing different characters and Stratospheerius members Joe Deninzon (electric violin/vocals), Jamie Bishop (bass), Aurelien Budynek (guitar), and drummer Lucianna Padmore wearing neon-colored masks.
Joe says, “The song is about the rise and downfall of celebrity and the primal fascination we have in building someone up and tearing them down, watching someone suffer. We love to chastise someone while we ourselves often lead double lives, hiding all kinds of skeletons in our closets while pretending we are faultless.”
In the video, Max plays a tormented wretched old man stuck in an endless maze of corridors in his mind, his own personal hell. Through the video, he opens different doors and enters new worlds where he assumes a different identity in each, putting on a face and playing a role, always returning back into his hallway of hell and searching for a new doorway to open, doomed to do this for eternity. The band represents the demons who continue to hover around and haunt this man, with a nod to the Droogs from Clockwork Orange.
The video was co-produced by renowned MTV producer David P. Levin, Filner at Alpha Wave Studios in East Hanover, NJ, and edited by David Milone and David P. Levin.
Stratospheerius’ GUILTY OF INNOCENCE is finding praise for its musicianship, vocals, songwriting, inventiveness, and sound:
PROGRESSION: “Joe Deninzon has made a career…wielding his violin like guitar. In that way he has pioneered a new standard for rock violin, much the same way Ian Anderson did for flute.”
“Splashy and theatrical, GUILTY OF INNOCENCE is a howl for justice delivered by virtuosos completely in synch with one another!“ writes “Strings” Magazine, the “Bible” for the String music world.)
"GUILTY OF INNOCENCE is not only great, but one of the most hectic and heart-stopping albums I’ve listened to,” states “Music From the Other Side of the Room”’s Zachary Nathanson.
Stratospheerius has showcased their “frenzied melange of progressive rock, jazz fusion and funkabilly” throughout the world at colleges, festivals, and clubs. They have opened for artists including Alex Skolnick, Gary Hoey, Martin Barre, Tim Reynolds, Mickey Hart, Mike Stern, and John Scofield. The group has played festivals including The Detroit International Jazz Festival, Great South Bay, Chattanooga RiverFest, Harmony Fest a number of times through the years. The band was a winner of the John Lennon International Songwriting Competition the Musicians Atlas Independent Music Awards. They have been featured in Progression, Relix, Downbeat, and Jazziz... Known as the “Jimi Hendrix of violin,” Joe is the author of Mel Bay’s electric violin technique book, “Plugging In: A Guide to Gear and Technique for the 21st Century String Player”, AND HAS recently worked with Bruce Springsteen, Phoebe Snow, Everclear, Peter Criss from KISS, Renaissance, and as a soloist with Jazz at Lincoln Center, the New York City Ballet, and The Muncie Symphony Orchestra on his concerto!
