Signs of Life - Medium Insights
Intuitive medium and Spiritualist minister Laura Wooster joins Roman Karpishka on Signs of Life: Medium Insights Hour for a wide-ranging conversation about developing mediumship, meditation, group readings, children in spirit, dreams from loved ones, Janet Nohavec and Spiritualist history, soul consciousness, reincarnation, signs from ancestors, healthy skepticism, and living this earthly life as fully as possible.
Guest Spotlight: Laura Wooster
Laura Wooster is introduced as an intuitive medium, teacher, host of The Intuitive Life podcast, and an ordained Spiritualist minister with Journey Within Spiritualist Church in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey. Roman explains that she offers private intuitive and mediumship sessions and has studied with teachers in the United States and the United Kingdom. The program makes clear that Laura is not conducting readings during this appearance but is answering questions about mediumship, spirituality, and the afterlife.
Beginning Mediumship Through Stillness and Meditation
Laura says she personally believes everyone has some capacity to connect with spirit, though not everyone is meant to work as a professional medium. She cautions that people often make the process more complicated than necessary. Her own awareness began unexpectedly after she adopted a daily twenty-minute meditation practice to address health concerns. After roughly six months, she says she began hearing spirit and gradually learned how to understand the experience.
Group Readings and the Intelligence of Connection
Roman compares mediumship to hidden three-dimensional images that become visible only when a person learns how to look at them. Laura agrees with the analogy and says spirit is already present, even when people do not consciously perceive it. She explains that during group readings, communicators may provide highly distinctive information to identify the intended recipient. In her view, an intelligence within the universe allows certain messages to reach one person while also resonating with others in the room.
Spirit Babies and Children Who Die Young
Caller Pam asks what happens to twin boys who died shortly after premature birth and to a child connected with abortion. Laura responds from her spiritual perspective that a soul unable to remain in one physical life may still enter the family through another pregnancy or as another relative. She says children who die young may appear in readings as having grown or may still present as infants, depending on what is meaningful to the parent. She emphasizes her belief that these souls continue learning, experiencing, and remaining connected with their families.
Dreams, Janet Nohavec, and Spiritualist History
Caller Barbara shares memories of Reverend Janet Nohavec and describes a dream in which Janet allegedly advised Barbara’s husband to visit a doctor. Laura says dreams are among the most common ways she believes loved ones communicate, especially with analytical people whose logical mind is quieter during sleep. She recalls meeting Janet through Journey Within Church and later becoming a minister there. The conversation also covers the Fox Sisters, the early history of modern Spiritualism, and Janet’s involvement in restoring a historical schoolhouse connected with that movement.
Source Consciousness and the Nature of the Soul
Roman asks whether souls have always existed and whether consciousness evolved along with human beings. Laura says she does not view souls as completely separate entities, but as expressions of a larger energy she calls Source. In her understanding, physical bodies create an appearance of individuality while all consciousness remains interconnected. She suggests that personal growth and learning contribute to a broader field of knowledge shared by everyone.
Clairvoyance, Clairaudience, and Spiritual Sensing
Laura describes receiving information through multiple channels, including seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, and occasionally tasting impressions associated with spirit communicators. She shares that she lost much of her physical sense of smell after COVID but still experiences scents during mediumship work. She interprets that contrast as evidence, from her perspective, that such impressions come from a source different from ordinary physical sensation. These statements remain Laura’s personal interpretation rather than independently verified medical or scientific conclusions.
Reincarnation and Earth as a School for Consciousness
Caller Tim compares several afterlife models: one earthly life followed by progression in heaven, repeated reincarnation, and teachings that describe Earth as a school for the soul. He references researchers and authors including Ian Stevenson, Jim Tucker, Michael Newton, Brian Weiss, and Dolores Cannon. Laura says she does not claim certainty about the afterlife but believes Earth may function as a demanding masterclass for consciousness. Based on her readings and study, she says she believes some form of reincarnation exists and that consciousness may have experiences beyond human life.
Signs From Ancestors and Spiritualist Worship
Laura shares a story in which her husband followed a circling hawk and found an ancestor’s grave beneath where it hovered. She presents this as an example of guidance appearing through an unexpected sign. She also explains that Spiritualist church services may include spiritual healing, hands-on healing mediums, music, teaching, and mediumship intended to provide evidence of continued consciousness. She describes Journey Within as welcoming people from many religious traditions while maintaining its focus on healing and communication with spirit.
Doubt, Premonition, and Living Life Fully
Laura recounts an experience from late July 2001 in which she felt time stop while looking toward Manhattan and heard the message, “This is all going to change.” She interprets the experience as a possible premonition before the September 11 attacks, while acknowledging that such impressions often lack context when they occur. Roman and Laura close by discussing doubt as something that can keep spiritual exploration grounded. Laura says messages from the spirit world frequently encourage people not to escape earthly life, but to participate in it fully and appreciate everything it offers.

"It’s an honor to be present in a room when a loved one in Spirit reaches out to those who are missing them. I’m only an interpreter for the process - because the language of spirit isn’t necessarily like ours. They communicate through energy. And I’ve learned over time to interpret the message they are trying to get across. Which ultimately is that they are still very much present in our lives...
Also my goal isn’t necessarily to convince anyone of what I believe to be true - that we continue to exist after we’ve left this world. But at the very least, it opens the door for people to consider something more. It can be life changing for some." - Laura Wooster | Intuitive Medium & Teacher

Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Thank you, Roman. I am happy to be here.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Welcome back. I think the last time was in February of 2025.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Yes, that was a quick year.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
It was a quick year, absolutely. How have you been?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Wonderful. I have just been enjoying the summer.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
In Massachusetts, right?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Yes, I am in Massachusetts - born and raised, and I never left.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Do you have one of those Boston accents?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
I do not. Maybe a little bit.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Just a little. My Canadian accent slips through once in a while, but after being in the States for about twenty-five or twenty-six years, I am losing it. I am not saying "eh" all the time.
We have a bunch of questions from callers and from previous shows that we did not get to, so we can ask your opinion on those. But before we do that, a lot of people are interested in mediumship and want to try it at home. Some people have a knack for it, and some people do not, just like being a musician. For those people who are trying to get into it, what advice would you give them when they are starting out as a medium?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
First, recognize that because we are human beings, we are all wired for connection to spirit. We all have that ability to connect with spirit. That is my personal opinion; some people might argue with me about that. But I really believe we are meant to connect with spirit.
Are we all meant to do the work in the same manner that the mediums at Forever Family Foundation do? Maybe not. But we all have the ability to connect with the spirit world and with our loved ones, and to know that is a given before trying to do it. Sometimes we overcomplicate the connection to the spirit world. We make it much harder on ourselves than it needs to be.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Absolutely. What are some techniques you use to open everything up for yourself?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
The thing that really opened me to the spirit world, unknowingly, was meditation. I was meditating, not for the purpose of connecting, but to manage my health. I was having high blood pressure issues and things like that. I meditated for twenty minutes a day, and I made it a practice. After about six months, I started connecting to spirit. I started hearing spirit. I did not know what was happening at first. It took me a little while to figure it out.
That brought home to me how crucial getting still is. Meditation is one way to do that. Getting still and being receptive and open is probably the number one thing I would say.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Now that you have almost twenty years of practice behind you, it probably gets easier to get into that state, right?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Yes. It is kind of like riding a bike. Once you know how to do it, it is easier to make the connection with a breath, essentially. When I was first learning, it took a while to get into that connection. But once you learn, you can connect with a simple breath or a moment.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
You know, something just popped into my head. Back in the early nineties there were those pictures you had to stare at, even in that Seinfeld episode, and then suddenly you could see the 3D image. The pattern looked crazy, but the image was there. That is kind of like mediumship, I guess. It is there, but you have to find the way to see it. I used to spend days staring at those things, thinking, "I cannot see anything," and then finally it hit me and everything came into perspective.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
That is a great analogy. Spirit is there. They are present.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Most of us cannot see them, but they are there. I have heard too much and seen too much not to believe it, even though I am not a medium myself. I would give up all my guitars to be in your shoes for one minute while you are receiving information from spirit.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
And I would love to have a minute to know how to play that guitar.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
I have a few of them - a whole wall. I am on a different computer today than I normally am because my microphone on my main computer is not working, so I am using a laptop. It is not as good, and you can tell when I am reading something.
Do you ever do group sessions as well?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
I do. I tend to do one-to-one appointments most of the time, but I also do groups of fifty or more.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
That must be so confusing. How do you sort through fifty spirits clamoring to be heard?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Actually, it is easier than you think. In a group, I believe those on the other side know they have to get through to me very clearly. I will often get something very distinctive, information-wise, from the other side to hone in on exactly who the message is for. It is not as bad as you might think.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Do they line up? Do all the spirits get through when you do a reading, or do you have to turn some away because of time?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
If you have fifty or more people, each person may have at least one person on the other side, so there are many, many connections. But I also believe, as my friend Janet Nohavec would say, that there is an intelligence to the universe. The messages that come through will touch the most people. One person might receive the message, but others in the group will also resonate with that connection.
I believe there is a reason why certain people come through. Sometimes people come to a group hoping to hear from loved ones. Sometimes they come because they are getting used to the possibility. Some are there to receive a message, some are there to take in the experience, and some are still gathering information about what they truly believe.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
We already have a couple callers. Are you ready to take a call?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Absolutely. I love that.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
We will start with Pam from Maryland on line one. She has a couple questions about twins during pregnancy, but I will let her say what she wants to say. Pam, welcome to the show.
Speaker 4 - Pam from Maryland:
Thank you. I hope I do not get nervous and forget everything. I had my first pregnancy with twins, and I delivered them at five and a half months. They lived for about an hour. They were both boys. I was told boys do not have as good a chance as girls when they are premature.
I was wondering what happened to them after they died. Are they growing up in heaven, or do they stay the same? That is my first question. My other question is that a close family member had an abortion, and I am wondering what happened to that child. Does that child go to heaven? How does that work?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Wonderful questions. Interestingly, I just had a conversation yesterday with a colleague of mine, Nancy Mae, about this. She does a lot of pre-birth readings and talks about spirit babies.
From my perspective and from what I understand about the spirit world, if a child does not make it into this world in the form we hoped, that soul may come in another way. If a soul is meant to have an experience in this lifetime with your family, and they do not come in through one particular mother, they may come through again in another pregnancy, or as a grandchild, niece, nephew, or another member of the family group. You do not miss out on the experience of having that lovely soul in your life. They come in a different way.
Either we are in body or in spirit. If someone does not make it into the physical world, they are in spirit. We are all spirit, even though we are in physical bodies. Heaven and spirit, to me, are synonymous.
As far as twins, I have done readings where someone lost a child and, years later, that child came through in a way that reflected growth. For example, I once read for a woman and a twenty- or twenty-one-year-old young man came through. I described him, and she realized this was her son who passed just after birth, twenty-one years earlier. So I do believe they continue to have an experience on the other side and remain part of our families.
At the same time, I have also had experiences where a loved one comes through as a baby many years later. I believe that may also be the experience the parent is meant to have. Because we live in the physical world, we think in linear, black-and-white terms, but the spirit world is not like that. I do believe they continue on, continue to learn, and continue to experience life outside the body.
Speaker 4 - Pam from Maryland:
Yes, that helps very much. Thank you so much.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Thank you for your call.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Now we have Barbara from New Jersey on line two. Barbara, welcome to the show.
Speaker 5 - Barbara from New Jersey:
Hi. How are you?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Hi, Barbara.
Speaker 5 - Barbara from New Jersey:
I want to make sure I am not on speaker. I am going to date myself a little bit. I saw the reminder about today's radio show and noticed that you had a connection with Reverend Janet. I met Reverend Janet when I was eighteen years old. This goes back decades. She had a little spiritual angel shop in our town. I went in for group readings and took classes with her. One assignment was at her house, and I will never forget it because I was the only one who guessed that she had a rooster in her kitchen.
Not too long ago, around the anniversary of her passing, my husband had a dream. He is not someone who does this. He is a proof person, and that is fine. But he said, verbatim, that she told him to go to the doctor. I told him that meant he had to go. Then there was the giggle, the way she would giggle. Since he was not there for the reading all those years ago, I think she was giving him a cue now.
I was curious how you met her and what your memories of her are.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
I miss her dearly. I really do, as many people do. She is a wonderful person, and I speak in the present because I know she is still around us.
Before I answer your question, I want to mention your husband's dream. Dreams are one of the number one ways spirit or people from the other side come through, especially for people who are very logical. Their logic is asleep, so it is a great way for spirit to come through. It does not surprise me that, considering how you described your husband, she came through to him in a dream and gave him that advice.
I met Janet when I started going to Journey Within Church to take classes. As you said, she brought in teachers from abroad and wonderful master teachers from this side of the pond as well. At one point, because of her welcoming ways and the feeling of the church, I felt strongly called to become a minister in her church. I became a minister there maybe a year or two before she passed. It was a gift to have that happen with her. She was a wonderful presence, a wonderful person, and a representative for spirit. Now she is doing this on the other side.
Speaker 5 - Barbara from New Jersey:
That makes sense. I moved down to South Jersey around 2016, so I only came up maybe one more time for church, and then there were online things during COVID.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
They are opening back up again. They still do online, but they also do in-person services and are doing more this fall and next year.
Speaker 5 - Barbara from New Jersey:
I will be going up to the Omega Center in a few weeks. I wanted to take a drive up to see the place connected to the Fox Sisters.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
For those who may not know, the Fox Sisters are often associated with the birth of modern spiritualism. There was an old schoolhouse they believe the Fox Sisters attended, and before Janet passed, she was very committed to restoring that school and turning it into a center. It is beautiful now. I have not made it up there myself, but I have seen pictures. Eventually there will be classes, readings, and other things offered there. It is a wonderful legacy she left, connected to the history of spiritualism.
Speaker 5 - Barbara from New Jersey:
If you ever make it to New Jersey, I would love to come up and say hi.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Please do. Thank you.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Barbara, thank you for your call.
Speaker 5 - Barbara from New Jersey:
Thanks. Have a good day.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
I am going to the Jersey Shore next week with my family, to Wildwood. We do it every year with friends, and it is a lot of fun. One thing about the Wildwood beach is that the beaches are so wide. You have to walk half a mile to get to the water.
Have you been to Lily Dale?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
I have not been to Lily Dale, believe it or not. I am also surprised I have not been. I just have not made it up there yet.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
I have never been either. I envision it as a quaint little town with small buildings, cafe shops, tie-dye, readings, and all that kind of stuff. It is on the bucket list.
What do you think about souls? Have souls always existed? Humans have not always existed. We evolved, right? What about the soul? Did the soul evolve?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
To oversimplify it, my sense is that each soul is not really separate. We are all part of a bigger energy, whatever you want to call that. Many people call it different names. I like to call it Source because it covers all beliefs.
I believe we are all an extension of that, a piece of that. Because we are connected to individual physical bodies, it gives the impression that we are separate, but we are not. I believe that whatever power this is that powers us as human beings has always existed. It is being utilized through the physical human form at this point.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
That is a good answer. If God, in infinite wisdom, split consciousness into billions of consciousnesses so that information could be picked up better, that makes sense.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
I believe there is a consciousness that we are all connected to, and we can contribute to that through our own self-development and learning. We contribute to that greater knowledge for everyone.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
When you receive messages, how do you see things? Are you clairvoyant, clairaudient, clairsentient?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
All of the above. It often depends on the information that is coming through or on how the communicator from the other side communicates. I am clairaudient, so I hear a lot of things. I am clairsentient, so I feel things. I see things. Sometimes I smell spirit, and sometimes I taste things people used to make when they were here.
Something odd happened that gives me a clue about how this works. During COVID, I lost my sense of smell, and it never really came back. But when I am working and spirit brings through a scent, I can identify it and smell it. I can smell what spirit brings across, but I cannot smell the physical world. That indicates to me that there is something else going on and that the information is coming from somewhere else.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Did that affect your taste for food as well?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Yes, it has. Smell has a lot to do with how something is appreciated. That is why I like spicy food now more than ever, because I can feel something.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
My sense of smell went away too, but it came back after two days. I remember exactly when it happened. I was eating a piece of pizza, and suddenly it tasted like cardboard.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Exactly.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
I am sorry to hear yours has lasted so long.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
It is okay. My doctor says it will come back eventually, and I believe that. It is just a matter of time.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
How do you deal with skeptics? Do skeptical people come to see you?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
It depends on whether they are skeptical or cynical. Cynics are different. Nothing good comes from that. But someone can be an open-minded skeptic, and that is fine.
When I first stepped into this and had profound experiences with spirit, I was skeptical of what was happening. It took me a few years of sitting in development circles to really believe this was possible. I was always questioning it. I wondered who I was to be doing this kind of thing. So I understand skepticism.
I ask people to have an open mind, take it on board, and consider it. I often say, "I hope I give you something to think about." I am not here to convince anyone, and I do not think I am meant to convince everyone. But I might be part of their process of deciding what is true for them.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
We have another caller, Tim from Pittsburgh on line one. Tim, welcome to the show.
Speaker 6 - Tim from Pittsburgh:
Thanks. Good evening. My question was triggered by what you were discussing about whether we are all one soul and what exactly we are, especially since humans have evolved over time.
Anybody who listens to this show probably believes there is something after this life on earth. We believe in an afterlife, even if we are not sure exactly what that is. There are different approaches out there. One book I read recently, by the head of White Crow Books, suggested that you get one shot at life on earth and then progress through levels in heaven. Then Ian Stevenson, Jim Tucker, and others say there is evidence, at least through young children, that people have lived previously, so there is reincarnation. Michael Newton and others say earth functions like a school, and you come back multiple times learning here, which allows your soul to progress.
So one view is one shot on earth and progress in heaven. Another view is multiple lives on earth, with progression through those experiences. I am curious, from your readings, your experience, and your gut, which approach seems correct?
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Tim, that is probably the best question we have ever received on this show. I am not kidding. That is an amazing question.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
It is a great question. I will never say that I know for sure what it is like on the other side. But based on information that has come through when I have done readings, and from reading Michael Newton, Dolores Cannon, Brian Weiss, and others, I do believe earth as we see it now is a masterclass for consciousness.
I believe there are other places and other ways to experience life besides being a human being. This is often described as a master school because we are connected to the human body and it is a complicated world. We get to experience extremes. But there may be other ways consciousness can experience life through other beings or other places.
I do not profess to know exactly what happens on the other side, but I do think we are far more than human beings. Our soul, or whatever powers us, continues on and may have experiences that are not necessarily human-related.
Speaker 6 - Tim from Pittsburgh:
Stevenson did regression therapy, and Jim Tucker was connected with that work at the University of Virginia. I have read a lot of those books. There is also Judy Beischel in Tucson, Arizona, who has done a lot of work in this area. My wife has volunteered in animal shelters, and we have had a lot of cats. Unfortunately, we have to put one down tomorrow morning. Judy Beischel has presented evidence suggesting that when you pass on, your pets will be there.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Absolutely.
Speaker 6 - Tim from Pittsburgh:
That fits with what you are saying about one big consciousness and the idea that we may be more than just humans. There is also the difference between spiritualists and spiritists, and some groups do not necessarily believe in reincarnation while others do. Some are cautious about Michael Newton's work because of hypnosis and what can be introduced into hypnosis.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
These are things I think about quite a bit. There are many shades of belief in reincarnation and many variations of what people believe reincarnation actually is. From my own experiences and from working with people, I do believe there is some form of reincarnation.
In mediumship, we are usually connecting with people who have passed. But occasionally, there will be a strong awareness of another life connection, and I will bring that through. That is not my main focus, but because we are in that realm, it can come through. As my experience grows, my perception of what that looks like may change over time, but I do believe there is some form of reincarnation.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Tim, you might also want to check out Gary Schwartz. He did extensive experiments, including triple- and quadruple-blind experiments and remote-viewing experiments that are very difficult to fake.
Speaker 6 - Tim from Pittsburgh:
I am familiar with him. I have read a lot of these books. It is funny because you were talking about being too logical to really be a medium, and I think that is me. I tend to be left-brained. But there is a lot of information out there that people are not familiar with. You do not learn it in school, and you do not learn it in most religious settings. You have to become interested enough to pursue it.
I have talked to very bright people about these things, and they say, "That is too deep for me. I do not want to think about that." But this is the big stuff: who are we and why are we here?
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Tim, do you get the Friday Afterlife Report from Victor Zammit?
Speaker 6 - Tim from Pittsburgh:
Yes, I do.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
That is another good resource.
Speaker 6 - Tim from Pittsburgh:
It is an excellent resource. They have wonderful videos as part of that.
I will tell you one experience. My wife's grandmother was born in 1899 and died in 1999. My wife does not like to think about death and had visited her grandmother's grave only once. Shortly afterward, she was going through spare change in her pocket and showed me a coin from 1899. The coin was over one hundred years old, and the date was clear. It was the type of coin her grandmother collected when my wife was a little girl. Where did that come from? Something is going on.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Absolutely. There is definitely a connection there.
Speaker 6 - Tim from Pittsburgh:
Thank you very much. I hope people listen to this and learn something and look into the resources.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Tim, very amazing question. Thank you so much for your call.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Thank you, Tim.
I have a story to share, because he was talking about the great-grandmother. A few years ago, my husband was doing ancestry work, trying to figure out where his family was from. He drove to a town in New England where many of his relatives from generations ago were buried. He went to the cemetery, but there was no map or clear indication of where anything was.
He finally sent up a little request in his head and said, "Okay, if this is real, can you show me where this grave is?" Overhead, a hawk flew by and started moving in a direction. He followed the hawk as it circled and moved. Finally, it stayed over one section. He walked over, looked down, and right underneath was the stone he was looking for.
I believe we can talk to our people, even if we did not know them in this lifetime. We can talk to our ancestors, and they can help and guide us when we need it.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
The problem is that you do not always know what kind of sign you are going to get. You know it when you get it, but you do not always know what to look for.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Exactly. It has to be profound, and you have to pay attention.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Tell us about your church. You are a minister in the church. How does it work?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
I am a Spiritualist minister. The Spiritualist church believes in healing and in communion with spirit, bringing loved ones from the other side through for the sake of healing and evidence of the afterlife. The church also believes in hands-on healing, spiritual healing, similar to Reiki, though not exactly Reiki.
We have healing mediums. In in-person services, before the message medium speaks and before mental mediumship, healing mediums may offer healing. People come up front, sit in a chair, and the healing medium places hands on their shoulders and channels healing for them.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
How long do the church services last?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
About an hour or an hour and twenty minutes, depending.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Are they on Sundays?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Most of the time, yes, Sunday morning.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
I am very ingrained in my Catholic church.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
I am Catholic too. People of all beliefs come to the Spiritualist church. We have Jewish people, Catholics, Buddhists, and people from many different beliefs. I believe it is for everybody. Janet made sure there were representations of different belief systems in the Spiritualist sanctuary.
Journey Within does an online 10 a.m. service and also an in-person 10 a.m. service. If people are not in the New Jersey area, they can still go online and receive messages and healing.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Does the church service have communion?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
No, nothing like that.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Is there music? A choir? Hymns?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
There is music. We believe in using music to raise the vibration. Sometimes people sing along. It is not required, but it is often uplifting music.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
What is the name of the church?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Journey Within Church in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey. It is wonderful and very welcoming. They are starting to bring back a Thursday evening service as well, beginning again in September.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Do you ever receive information about world events, that something is going to change or something big is coming?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Yes, but I usually tuck it away because there is often too much unknown around it to do anything with it.
I will give you one example. Many years ago, my husband had to drive to Long Island to see a vendor for work. He asked whether I wanted to drive with him. We were driving toward Long Island, and I remember being in the passenger seat, looking across the water and seeing Manhattan. I had this feeling that time stopped for a moment, and I heard a voice I had not heard before say, in a calm, matter-of-fact way, "This is all going to change."
I wondered what that meant, and I had a very uncomfortable feeling in my solar plexus. This was at the end of July 2001. Six weeks later, everything did change.
I know many people have stories like that, but nobody really had the context to understand exactly what was happening. They just knew something was up. I believe that when that happens, somewhere we pass a point in our timeline where something becomes more inevitable, and we start to feel it.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
I think I get visions sometimes too, but because I am not a medium, my ego gets in the way. I doubt myself too much, even though I have been told I can do psychometry.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
If you can do psychometry, you can do mediumship. You can make that connection.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
I would love to. I have a couple more years of work, and when I retire, I am definitely going to dabble in it.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Good. Why not? Doubt is part of the journey. It keeps us grounded. That is a good thing, in my mind.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Nobody has ever put it that way before, that doubt keeps you grounded. I can see that. I have also said there has to be some mystery in this. If we knew without a doubt that there is an afterlife, people might treat life like a reset button when something goes wrong. I think God, in wisdom, put mystery into this so we live our fullest lives wherever we are.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Exactly. That is what the spirit world wants us to do. When we connect with spirit, they often remind us to live this life fully and really enjoy it. My friend Janet Nohavec once said, "You do not know - this may be the last time you come to earth. Enjoy it for everything it has to offer." I truly believe that.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Before we leave, this hour flew by. Let us plug you a little bit. How can people get hold of you and book sessions?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
My website is laurawooster.com. It has everything - classes, how to connect, and how to book sessions.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
How far out are you booked?
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
October right now, so just a couple months.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
October is a good time to get readings - Halloween and spirit stores popping up everywhere. Laura, thank you so much for all your insight. This was a wonderful conversation, and I am sure our viewers enjoyed it.
Speaker 3 - Laura Wooster:
Always a pleasure. Thank you, Roman.
Speaker 2 - Roman Karpishka:
Everybody else, please support Forever Family Foundation and listen to the radio podcasts. I will be back in a month. Know that your loved ones are only a heartbeat away, as good old Brian Ginsberg used to say, and science is going to prove it one day. I truly believe that.
Have a good night, and thank you, everybody, for tuning in. Good night.
