Guest, Dr Brian Joondeph
Brian C. Joondeph completed his training as a retina surgeon in 1990 and since then has worked both in private practice and full-time academic ophthalmology. He practiced in Michigan for ten years before taking his family on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to work and live in Auckland, New Zealand for several years. He has been in Denver for the past 15 years after returning from his academic retina position down under. Denver was a great fit for his family after New Zealand given the opportunity for outdoor adventure and sports.
Dr. Joondeph grew up in northern New Jersey with his entire family in medicine or allied professions, making medical school an easy choice. Ophthalmology provided a high-tech blend of medicine and surgery, with retina further exemplifying these features. There is little in medicine more satisfying than saving or restoring eyesight, arguably the most precious of our senses.
Dr. Joondeph has more than 80 academic publications and is a current and past investigator in multiple clinical trials. He enjoys clinical research as it links scientific inquiry with eventual new treatments he can offer to his patients. He is also an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology, helping develop the next generation of ophthalmologists. Dr. Joondeph is widowed and has three adult children.

Straight up. Coming up momentarily, we are going to get Dr. Brian Joondeph with us. He had a column written about him in December of 2020 where they called his views on COVID contrarian, and of course we all know now that he was right along with the rest of us. There is even more information coming out about Dr. Fauci now. I also want to talk about how hilarious it is watching the WNBA. Another former NBA first-round draft choice has declared his intent to enter the WNBA draft, putting the WNBA in a particularly tricky situation.

We talked with you at length during the COVID era, and I think there was a time when you were saying that it was professionally risky for you to talk about it too much. Mike Roberts at Westword wrote a story calling your COVID views contrarian. As it turns out, you were right along with the rest of us. Even today, more material is coming out about Dr. Fauci. Has Mike Roberts reached out to you to do a new column saying you were right?
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
No, I do not think he has. I am sure he could find me if he wanted to. My statements at the time agreed more with Dr. Fauci's diary than with Dr. Fauci himself. So Dr. Fauci's diary was a contrarian too, just like me. If his diary had been a physician, it would have been reported to the medical board and censored. The diary got a free pass being contrarian to Dr. Fauci.
Speaker 2 - Chuck Bonniwell:
Mike Roberts should be ashamed, in my opinion, for how many people were harmed by those narratives. He started off by saying that members of the medical community were in overwhelming agreement about COVID-19.
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
That is because if you were not in agreement, you lost your job, got censored, got deplatformed, or had your license threatened. It was not a good time to be a contrarian or to challenge the orthodoxy of the time. Galileo learned that when he had the audacity to say the Earth rotates around the sun instead of vice versa.
Speaker 2 - Chuck Bonniwell:
The article went on to say that experts around the world considered the novel coronavirus to be an extraordinarily serious threat, and that the mortality figures more than justified public-health measures such as masks, physical distancing, and limiting social interaction.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
But they did not want to say closing down schools, closing down businesses, and closing down churches.
Speaker 2 - Chuck Bonniwell:
Exactly. Then they treated anyone who disagreed as crazy. It is amazing because so many of those statements have been proven wrong.
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
The death numbers were certainly overstated in many ways. By their logic, George Floyd could have been classified as a COVID death because he tested positive at autopsy. There were cases where a gunshot death was classified as COVID because the person tested positive with an overly sensitive test. That brings up the PCR test. It had an amplification rate around forty cycles, and if there was a dead viral particle in your nose, you could test positive. A PCR test is meant to confirm a diagnosis; it was not designed as a mass screening test. Robert Malone and others said that from the beginning. The New York Times even wrote that many cases may have been false positives because the test was too sensitive.
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
Because of those inflated numbers and because of Fauci's claims about the case-fatality rate, everything was shut down - except Nancy Pelosi's beauty parlor, except the French Laundry when Gavin Newsom wanted to eat there, and except the riots where hundreds of thousands of people gathered in close proximity. You could not go to church, but you could riot in the streets of Denver, Minneapolis, or elsewhere. The contradictions were everywhere, and nobody bothered to ask or explain them.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
That was Dr. Fauci, and people were told to be Dr. Fauci. But Dr. Fauci could not have done what he did without the complicity of the media. Margaret Brennan was interviewing Dr. Jay Bhattacharya and kept telling him it was Kennedy's fault or Trump's fault. When he tried to bring it back to what happened, she talked over him and said that was not productive. They take no responsibility for what they did to children, parents, and families.
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
It is a shame. The media likes to say mistakes were made, in the passive voice, without saying who made the mistakes. But even granting that mistakes were made, where is the accountability? Where are the corrections? It is like when the FBI says mistakes were made.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
I think someone is at your door.
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
Somebody was supposed to come between one and three, so naturally they come at 3:05.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
We can talk amongst ourselves.
Speaker 2 - Chuck Bonniwell:
If someone was a good journalist, what they would do is simply say, we were wrong. They would take all this information coming out about Dr. Fauci and at least blame Dr. Fauci for it. But they do not do that. They either try to shut you down or move on to something else.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
During the hearings with Rand Paul, every Democratic senator was praising Fauci as a great servant of mankind. They do not ever vote to hold him accountable.
Speaker 2 - Chuck Bonniwell:
There is an old line from the movie Love Story: love means never having to say you are sorry. What about the Fauci logs and the texts? Were you surprised by how arrogant he was? You were right, but were you surprised by how wrong Fauci was and that he knew it?
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
I would not say he was wrong. He lied, to be blunt. He was saying one thing in private and another thing to the public. My question is whether this was all his idea. He does not seem like a Dr. Strangelove figure to me. Who was instructing him? Who was telling him to do this? That is probably the bigger question. He clearly said things that were not true.
Speaker 2 - Chuck Bonniwell:
If you, as a doctor, had told a woman that a COVID vaccine was perfectly safe and posed no risk of miscarriage, and then in your private diary wrote that you were concerned about miscarriage, how would that go?
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
If that were discoverable in a malpractice suit, it would not go well. You said one thing and did another. Fauci had private communications acknowledging the lab-origin possibility, the six-foot rule was made up, masks contradicted what he had said, and much of it was theater. Then, on top of it, he became a celebrity fan. Barbra Streisand was texting him, Julia Roberts, George Clooney. He was acting like the unpopular kid who suddenly had all the cool kids talking to him. Instead of managing public health, he was playing TMZ with his celebrity friends.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
While people were dying in hospitals and their families could not visit them.
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
Exactly. Everyone else was supposed to follow rules, but elites did not. Pelosi got her hair done, Newsom went to the French Laundry, Fauci was seen at a baseball game without a mask, and Denver's mayor Michael Hancock told people not to travel for Thanksgiving while he traveled himself. It was rules for thee but not for me. It was the ultimate condemnation of rule by experts.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
Are doctors talking about this now? Are they saying never again, or is it more like, that was so 2020?
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
I know people personally who had lots of boosters and then had injuries, blood clots, and things of that sort. Quietly they say they will not get another booster. But beyond that, there is very little public condemnation. I stood by what I said then because it was backed by the science at the time. I was not making things up. There was good evidence that masks did not work well for an airborne viral illness, and the distancing was arbitrary. I pointed out what Dr. Fauci had said himself about masks, and I pointed out the pore size of masks compared with viral particles. That is not opinion; that is pointing out the obvious.
Speaker 2 - Chuck Bonniwell:
But you were not supposed to point out the obvious. I had someone say to get hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin, and my physician said he could not prescribe them. Later I told him that was worthless. It chilled any faith I have in most physicians - except you.
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
There has been a loss of faith in medical institutions, and they do not understand why. They lied about all things COVID, including the vaccines. Joe Biden, Rachel Maddow, and others said that if you got vaccinated, you would not get COVID and would not transmit COVID. Everyone I know who has had COVID has been vaccinated multiple times. What they said was false, and they knew, from Dr. Fauci, that it was not supported by the studies.
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
All they had to do was be honest and say, we do not know and we are trying to mitigate things. As a surgeon, I do not give guarantees. I explain what is likely and what can happen. That is being honest and presenting reality, not what you wish reality to be. But they had agendas: Big Pharma advertising money, cable news supported by pharma, and Trump derangement. If Trump mentioned disinfectant or ultraviolet light in a certain context, they turned it into saying he told people to inject bleach. That is not what he said.
Speaker 2 - Chuck Bonniwell:
We have midterms coming up, and we are about to put some of these same people back in power. There does not seem to be enough outrage toward the Democratic Party itself, because when Rand Paul held hearings, Democrats praised Fauci. There is no consequence for being dishonest.
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
There has been no reckoning. Fauci is one of the first. Some states are going after him with contempt charges, and I do not know if anything will amount to anything, but at least it is a start. Let us test the auto-pen pardons and see where it goes. His defenders are still out there. People still call him a hero. But read his diaries and watch him take the Fifth Amendment 111 times.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
Do you think there is a silver lining in the loss of trust? People now have the internet and can search, although only if they let you.
Speaker 2 - Chuck Bonniwell:
Yes, but the computer can still spit out a lie. You cannot just trust what it says, but at least you can go to some other sources.
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
Fauci was right early on when he called it a bad flu season. We have those all the time. Yet in 2021 there were supposedly zero flu cases. Nobody has explained how we went from tens of thousands of flu deaths a year to zero, and then back up again the next year.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
One thing I hope we get answers to is what was behind all of this. How did it become complete censorship so quickly? Fauci may have gone ego-maniacal, but it was not just a complicit media. It was immediate. People like Kyle Clark were saying you were responsible for deaths if you did not wear a mask. People were censored and kicked off YouTube. It escalated so fast that it makes me wonder if something bigger was going on.
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
I think there was, but I cannot prove it. The scenario was war-gamed the previous fall by Bill Gates and his foundation. They wanted desperately to prevent Trump from getting reelected, and what better way than to shut down the country and use mail-in ballots? I cannot prove that. I do not have recordings of people discussing it. But show me a better explanation.
Speaker 2 - Chuck Bonniwell:
Then you had the Fauci material showing him communicating with people he later claimed not to know well. In the middle of a supposedly world-ending epidemic, why is Bill Gates writing a book and Fauci asking people to review chapters?
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
Fauci became starstruck. He wanted his name out there. He was getting people to nominate him for awards. There were two Dr. Faucis: the scientist who was supposed to be taking things seriously, and the TMZ celebrity figure texting with celebrities and acting like the popular kid in school. That drove him and a lot of his behavior. He got a god complex, and that is dangerous.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
Do you think something like this could happen again, or has our generation learned its lesson?
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
They will try something different. It may not be the same thing. It may be a climate emergency or something else. Whether it succeeds depends on who is in the White House and whether people push back. I think people will be more resistant. But if government goes in the wrong direction, people may not have a choice.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
That is cheerful.
Speaker 4 - Dr. Brian Joondeph:
That is why the midterms are important. Get out and vote. Unfortunately, in Colorado, you are more dedicated to it than most people, but try anyway. State and local races matter. Town councils, county commissioners, and state legislators often affect day-to-day life more than the governor does.

I am not holding my breath on that either. We had a ton of comments. Jacob comments about an entry in Fauci's diary regarding cytokine storms, fever, and miscarriage concerns. He also says Trump signed an executive order to separate the MMR into different shots, and asks whether Biden said he was getting tired of people not getting the COVID vaccine. Thomas says, out with the Bolsheviks. Fauci's wife is now flipping people off in the driveway, so he is not having as much fun as he was a little while ago.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
But I will tell you something that is fun. I do not know if you have been following the WNBA. Caitlin Clark has been one of the best things ever to happen to the league, and yet they seem to hate her. Sophie Cunningham too. The league seems to hate the people who are actually bringing viewers. There was an interesting column saying the WNBA may single-handedly kill the trans movement because the issue has become absurd.
Speaker 2 - Chuck Bonniwell:
The WNBA cannot decide what to do. They say they support trans people, but what happens if a trans person wants to play? They do not want to answer that.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:

I am going back to Fauci for a second. Last week Johnny called and brought up the Tuskegee study of untreated syphilis in Black men in relation to Fauci. I remember Chuck asking why the kids. I want to bring up something I have not heard much about. We all know the beagle stories about Fauci, but the BBC did a 2004 documentary called Guinea Pig Kids. They hired investigative reporter Celia Farber to conduct field research for the film, which exposed the dark side of Big Pharma's rush to develop new AIDS remedies. Fauci, according to what I have read, experimented on orphan children, and some bodies were buried in unmarked graves. Celia went to Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York, where she saw small coffins. I do not know why none of that has been made known about Fauci.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
I have not heard any of that. I will look into it. Part of me is skeptical, but then again, why be skeptical about anything anymore when it comes to Fauci? Thank you for that.

Yes, if you go to American Thinker, he has a column there. He talks about the science again, because the stopwatch does not lie. You cannot have a male running the 100-yard dash and a woman running the 100-yard dash and pretend there is no physical difference.

The stopwatch is a racist sign, apparently.

Two former first-round draft choices from the NBA have announced their intention to seek positions in the WNBA draft. This puts the league in a bind because its own standards say that if you identify as something, they respect that. Now they will have to decide whether to change the rule.

Royce White, a former Houston player and Republican candidate for Senate in Minnesota, announced that he is going for the WNBA. Let us play that announcement.

Earlier this week I made the announcement: I am transgender. I identify, sometimes, as a woman for purposes of professional basketball. I will be declaring for the WNBA draft in 2027 as well. I think I would be unstoppable. I am a team-first guy and a pass-first kind of player. I led my team in all five major stat categories at Iowa State University. I will do whatever the coach needs me to do, whatever the girls need me to do. The WNBA could come out and make a definitive statement about guys with a pair of balls playing in the women's association, but that would probably be too much like right. I do not want to be discriminated against. I want fair treatment. I am a young Black candidate for United States Senate who would like a fair chance to participate as a sometimes-identifying transgender woman athlete.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
Another former Boston Celtics player also announced for the draft, and Royce White got a wig to show what he would look like. There have been memes with Marco Rubio in a pink WNBA headband saying he is declaring for the WNBA draft. By making it absurd, these former NBA players are exposing the issue. They are saying, if I identify as a woman, I want to play in the WNBA.

And he would be unstoppable. A former NBA player is going to be hard for a women's basketball player to beat.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
They will change the rule, but they have been exposed. It would become a demolition derby if professional male athletes started playing in the WNBA.

What is it with the WNBA that it is so woke? They seem to undermine the very athletes who draw fans. It is a ridiculous business model.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
It is part of the broader Democratic play that is being exposed. Men are not women. As Brian Joondeph said, the stopwatch does not lie. Science does not lie. The Democrats used to say they were for women, but now many of their positions work against women.

And yet they may win the midterms.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
Over the country they are predicted to win the House and maybe the Senate. A lot may depend on the race in Michigan. The Conservative Treehouse has a piece about Mike Rogers, saying he is tied to the intelligence community. If that is true, then maybe the intelligence community will do what it can to get him elected. But then you have the intelligence community embedded in everything, as Tulsi Gabbard has pointed out. Whoever wins the midterms, you still have bureaucrats running things.

Exactly. We have about ten minutes. There is also a Cambridge professor named Jason Arday. He had an incredible backstory: he was said to be the youngest Black full professor at Cambridge, with a story that he could not talk until age eleven and could not read or write until age eighteen, yet within a few years had a Ph.D. from the University of Glasgow and was brought into Cambridge.
Speaker 2 - Chuck Bonniwell:
He also claimed to have run 600 miles in six days on a treadmill, raised millions of dollars, and run thirty marathons in thirty-five days.

Eventually someone started looking into it. A professor who had been pushed out of Cambridge for writing about hereditary intelligence issues began asking questions. AI tools suggested that Arday had copied material. He pushed back with lawyers for a while, but eventually the claims became very difficult to defend.
Speaker 2 - Chuck Bonniwell:
One article he wrote was about why the right is so stupid, because they believe people like me. The larger point is that, for a long time, the left has insisted that everyone is born equal in every way, with equal gifts, including men and women and all races and groups. But you are not allowed to say that groups may differ on averages in certain abilities. You cannot say it, even if data suggests differences in outcomes.
Speaker 3 - Julie Hayden:
The same kind of thinking is at work in the WNBA issue. If men and women are exactly equal in athletic gifts, then anyone identifying as a woman can play in the WNBA. But you do not see women saying they identify as men so they can play in the men's league.
