RESISTANCE MATTERS: A Two Hour War Report - The OPT OUT Movement RESISTS Federal Threats and the Detroit Teachers RESIST via Synder Flu

Please join Internet radio host Dr. James Avington Miller Jr. for a special two hour War Report that will convince you that resistance matters, resistance is not futile, and resistance is the highest expression of democracy.

HOUR ONE:

Joining Dr. Miller for the first hour will be NY parent/activist Jeanette Brunelle Deutermann from Long Island Opt Out, teacher/activist Ceresta Smith from United Opt Out, and Sandy Stenoff parent/activist and co-founder of The Opt Out Florida Network (formerly Opt Out Orlando). Recently the Federal Department of Education issued threats to the states with high opt out numbers. As a result, the states then issued threats to local public school districts. This show will focus on the reaction to those threats and how the Opt Out groups are responding. The Federal government is saying that our resistance is futile. We, the champions for our children, are saying NO WAY!

HOUR TWO:

Joining Dr. Miller for the second hour will be former Detroit Federation of Teachers president Steve Conn. Steve, who has been a force behind the Synder Flu strikes, will bring us up to date on the resistance in Detroit. Joining Dr. Miller and Steve will be teachers who are on the front line of the strikes.

Detroit is the epicenter of the public school desaster and the reistance is fierce. As Steve says of the resistance, "It's going to be bigger. We are planning, as a I said, it's got to build to a city-wide strike. We're going to plan action next week that Michigan will know for years to come."

So, please join the resistance and listen and call in to this week's show. RESISTANCE MATTERS!

Why does the show banner for Catalytic Radio feature a dog's photo?

When Catalytic Radio Host Sheryl Hirsch-Kramer's heart dog, Laila, was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2013 and given an estimated six weeks to live, she asked herself a question that transformed both their lives:  "If feeling unloved and unsupported during a supremely challenging 2011 could destroy my health in 2012, what might happen if I gave Laila all the love and support I'd wished I'd have received?"

Without undergoing traditional cancer treatment, Laila's veterinarian was unable to palpate the enormous tumors one month later.  She lived a happy and useful life for two more years before dying at age 16; the vet who diagnosed the cancer confirmed that cancer did not cause her death.  Sheryl's dedicating her life to loving Laila also helped her progress in her recovery from a disabling stroke.

The outline of the story is remarkable.  The details of the story are even more remarkable.  Sheryl invites you to join her as she describes how a prophetic dream, a series of seemingly random events, and a desire to learn and practice the art of powerfully loving another helped to create a miraculous outcome that will touch your heart and perhaps challenge your ideas about what might be possible in your own life.

What do you do when life happens, even when faced with a dire diagnosis?  Get Catalytic!

Life Changes Show Guest, Paul Lamar Hunter February 10, 2014
Author, 19th Child of 21 Siblings

Author of, No Love No Charity.”

Paul Lamar Hunter had been in the public relations world since 2005. He was born on October 16, 1970.  He is the 19th child out of 21 natural children. He has been profiled in many national magazines including Ebony magazine, AMPS magazine, Today's Christian magazine, and the National Examiner.

No Love, No Charity: the Success of the 19th child is the riveting debut book by Paul Lamar Hunter. Though many would consider Paul to be an unlikely candidate to become successful, this thrilling autobiographical account describes how he made it, despite overwhelming odds. As the 19th child of twenty-one, his troubled life traversed the perils of poverty, neglect, dysfunction, and even deaths. Paul describes what it was like growing up in the shadows of a famous yet detached mother whose affections were focused on the homeless shelter that she founded. Though the shelter was supposed to be a haven for the downtrodden, it was actually the breeding ground for dysfunction and despondency. Despite Paul’s misfortunes and failures, his determined spirit and his unshakeable faith lifted him above the fray to become the first in his family to graduate from college. Now moving full-speed ahead, Paul Lamar Hunter is living proof that neither limits nor lineage determine the quality of one’s life—but faith, fortitude, and determination do.

Education: He graduated from Washington Park High School in 1990. In 2005, he earned an Associate Degree in Supervisory Management from Gateway Technical College. In 2012, he became the first in his family to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Upper Iowa University.
