Political Activist, DC Statehood Advocate
Adam Eidinger is one of DC’s premier political activists, having been involved locally and nationally in a wide range of social justice issues. His causes include anti-war, cannabis and hemp politics, GMO labeling and DC statehood.
Eidinger most recently served as the sponsor of the Committee to Hold Jack Evans Accountable, which collected signatures from residents registered to vote in DC’s Ward 2 with the aim of recalling Ward 2 Council member Jack Evans, who is under scrutiny for appearing to use his elected office to solicit employment from law and lobbying firms and for receiving money and stock shares from a sign company that benefited from legislation he promoted. The campaign fell short of the required amount of signatures needed to hold a recall election.
DC Council members were poised to vote earlier this month to expel Evans, its longest serving member, from its governing body. Such a vote and expulsion has never transpired in the District of Columbia. On January 7, 2020, Evans submitted his letter of resignation, resigning his elected position effective January 17th. Evans, who has held office for nearly 29 years, is still the target of a federal grand jury investigation.
Adam served as the sponsor of Ballot Initiative #71, for marijuana legalization, which electors passed by more than 70% in the 2014 General Election. Eidinger is a cofounder of DCMJ.org, which was formed in 2013 to change the outdated marijuana laws in the District of Columbia. Adam was recently invited to the White House for a meeting to discuss removing marijuana from the federal list of controlled substances.
Adam is also a longtime DC statehood advocate who was arrested in an act of civil disobedience with Senator Brown in a protest in front of the United States Senate in 2011.

Psychologist, Counselor, Wellness Program Developer, Author
Dean Shrock, Ph.D. was born in Central Pennsylvania, but soon moved to Pittsburgh, Pa. where he graduated from high school in 1963. He attended Cleveland State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1968.
In 1977 Dr. Shrock began training to be a lecturer in a self-help program with its founder, Ken McCaulley. Shrock returned to college in 1980, graduating from the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio with a master’s in Community and College Counseling in 1983, and completing his doctorate in Counseling Psychology in 1986. His doctoral dissertation was titled, Relaxation, Guided Imagery, and Wellness.
In 1986 Dr. Shrock completed a post-doctoral internship where he developed a research proposal for the Cleveland Clinic to test the effectiveness of guided imagery with cancer patients. In 1987 he interned as a staff psychologist with the Nittany Valley Rehabilitation Hospital in State College, Pa. While there he also interned with Dr. Carl Simonton at the Simonton Cancer Center where he initiated his research with psychological approaches to cancer care.
In 1988 Dr. Shrock was hired by a physician management group to provide psychological services for their cancer centers. Here he developed a wellness program whose primary purpose was to instill a greater “will to live”. While bringing more joy and meaning into life surely could affect a patient’s quality of life, Dr. Shrock’s research published in 1999 found that it extended their length of life. He concluded they lived longer because they felt listened to, cared for, and supported. His experience and expertise led to his being invited to co-author the chapter on Mind-Body Medicine in the textbook, Integrative Oncology, which is regarded as “the definitive source in the field” for healthcare providers.
Dr. Shrock wrote a book in 2000 about the wellness program he taught and the insights he gained. This book, Doctor’s Order’s: Go Fishing, is not about cancer, as much as it is about life. Readers can use the information to get well or stay well. People who are busy doing what they like to do not only tend to forget their aches and pains, but experience a positive effect on their quality and length of life.
However, Dr. Shrock was very intrigued by his finding that feeling loved and cared for could extend survival with cancer. This culminated in his 2009 bestselling book, Why Love Heals. He now resides in Yachats, Oregon and lectures regularly about his “Going Fishing” approach to life, and how to find true joy, peace of mind, great health, and self-love.
Healing Arts Practitioner, Song Writer, Chinese Translater, Musician
JON GARTNER
Jon Gartner, or Jon G., was born in Detroit and grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. He studied Chinese, Linguistics, and Economics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He started working as a ‘digital nomad,’ editing and translating Chinese Academic work and traveling in Asia and South America, meeting shaman, monks, and yogis, and learning about the healing arts—all the while bringing a guitar along and writing songs. After moving to New York and working for National Geographic, Jon began exploring the powers of meditation and Raja yoga. The songs that started coming out were a combination of the rap records he grew up listening to and the esoteric knowledge he had picked up in his journeys—it is Alt-Folk Swag-Rap.
Four years later, Jon has labored over learning a mixing deck and recording studio and is able to share his songs with the general public at a commercially competitive level. His first release, The Demonstration EP, is completely written, produced, mixed, mastered, and published by Jon, and has the confidence of southern rap records with the spirit of protest found in 60s folk records, combined with the worldly knowledge of his travels and some fancy guitar work.
