AUNTIE KAYTE DEIOMA

Kayte started performing and writing songs in middle school and high school, including penning her first recorded song, Lullaby of Hope, for her younger siblings when she was 16. She studied voice at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and continued performing through graduate school in Southern California, with a couple years in between spent bumming around Europe with a guitar. Then life took her on a completely different trajectory working with at-risk youth in Long Beach, CA for a number of years before returning to the creative arts in photography and writing.

Kayte was inspired to start writing songs again after talking to her youngest nephew, Declan, about good and bad in the context of knights and pirates. She wanted to offer new ways to look at relationships and behavior commonly seen in fairy-tales and life. Once she started, the gift of songs continued to flow, and opportunities to perform them materialized. As new ideas came and Auntie Kayte started once again working with kids and adults in challenging circumstances, she was drawn to write songs that address common issues from childhood that we carry into adulthood. Auntie Kayte believes that if you’re going to get a song stuck in your head, it might as well be something useful,  empowering and fun that will pop into your head just when you need it!

In addition to continuing to perform at family festivals, schools and other family concerts, Auntie Kayte also regularly sings selections from her original children’s music repertoire for adults and their inner children at personal development seminars and conferences.

Kayte Deioma is also an advocate and speaker on the topic of research that impacts how we present music to kids and safe volume levels for kids and adults.

JACKIE GOLDBERG AKA PINK LADY

At 84 “years young,” Pink Lady Jackie Goldberg of Hollywood is a force of nature. She’s a producer, an actress, member of Actor’s Equity and SAG-AFTRA, community builder, trailblazer, founder, and motivational speaker through her company, “Get Up, Get Out, & Get a Life!” And it’s true what people say- being around her is like getting a shot of vitamin C! She has an amazing ability to lift and energize all those around her.

Jackie, who prefers to be called PinkLady, is deeply motivated by her belief that, “Theatre is central to what many older adults need in terms of connection, motivation, and enthusiastic participation.” With this conviction, she founded, Senior Star Power Productions, Inc., whose mission is to engage, inspire and enrich the lives of seniors and veterans through the performing arts. They offer workshops, mentoring programs, performance opportunities and master classes, to inspire, educate, and embrace all seniors and veterans so they can further develop as vital, productive, and creative people.

Despite the reality that everyone ages, society and the media influence and reinforce negative attitudes toward unfair prejudices against aging and older adults. Within the entertainment industry, the roles for older actors get diminished, smaller and typecast. They are portrayed as fragile, dependent, helpless, unproductive and demanding rather then deserving. Jokes poke fun at aging and memory loss and physical impairments.

One of the greatest gifts Pink Lady is giving to the world is how she challenges stigmas around aging that seniors face on a regular basis. She has become a powerful voice of today’s 60+ community, that challenges skeptics and proves that it’s “absolutely possible to be vital, creative, enthusiastic, energetic, sexy, and “shout-out” fantastic.” Senior Star Power Productions, Inc. produced fifteen musical reviews, which include, Rockin’ With The Ages, The Beat Goes On, and We Have a Dream. The musical reviews include onlyactors that are 60+; some have extensive experience in the stage, film and TV industry; some are newcomers. Her shows are nothing short of bursting with talent!

In her latest book, “Get Up, Get Out, & Get A Life!: It Ain’t over ‘Til I Say It’s Over” you’ll read, “I believe I’m a perfect example of what the right attitude and gratitude can do for you. You need to know who you are and realize there is still a lot of livin’ to do. The purpose of life, after all, is to live it. This is truly our time to live life to the max-to taste each experience and to live in the present moment-wisely, lovingly and with enthusiasm. In today’s world, it takes guts to get older, without being old. Aging happens to everyone. It’s inevitable. However there’s no need to become a victim of age.” I would agree that she is a perfect example- and one that I hope many will follow.

Pink Lady is also one of several voices and faces for the campaign of the National Veterans Foundation, a leader in suicide prevention for veterans by veterans. Over Veterans’ Day Week, she produced the Senior Star Power 2016 Talent Competition “America Salutes Our Veterans,” held in the 1300 seat Historic Wadsworth Theatre located on the VA Grounds in West Los Angeles. At the event was an impressive list of Honorary Co-Chairs, Host Committee and award recipients, including Mayor Eric Garcetti, Congressman Ted Lieu,Shad Meshad, Founder and President, National Veterans Foundation, Tommy Lasorda, Tony Orlando, Ann-Margret and many more. As a member of the audience, I was incredibly impressed by the sheer talent I witnessed, and enjoyed every minute of the production. It was nothing short of sensational!

Pink Lady’s next goal is to open in 2017 a year-round Senior Theatrical Arts Complex in the LA/Hollywood area.

I wish the Pink Lady a Yasher Koach for her incredibly important life work, and feel sincere gratitude for her paving a more kind and bright societal attitude for current seniors, and for the younger generations who will eventually get there (God willing).

CARL PALMER’S ELP LEGACY

“REMEMBERING KEITH” - THE MUSIC OF EMERSON LAKE & PALMER TOUR

 PART II

Carl Palmer is a drummer’s drummer. A consummate professional, a brilliant

technician and a dynamic showman, he has thrilled listeners and audiences alike

for nearly four decades with some of music’s most memorable bands including

Atomic Rooster, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Asia and Emerson, Lake &

Palmer. Along the way his dexterity, speed and mastery of the drums, combined

with his infectious stage personality, have secured for him a respected place in

history as one of Rock and Roll’s greatest drummers.

At the age of 18, Carl joined up with The Crazy World of Arthur Brown at the

absolute peak of their success following the smash single “Fire” (“I am the God of

Hellfire…”). In 1969, Carl returned to the UK to form Atomic Rooster. It was with

Atomic Rooster that Carl enjoyed his first real success as a founding member of

a band.

But it would be in the spring of 1970, Carl received a phone call that changed his

life forever. Keyboard virtuoso Keith Emerson from The Nice, was forming a new

band with King Crimson founder Greg Lake. Immediately dubbed a “super-group”

by the media, Emerson, Lake and Palmer (ELP) entered the musical arena with

great expectations.

The classic single "Lucky Man" became a hit, and their stage show quickly

became the stuff of legend. They recorded and released five albums in four years,

all of which reached platinum status. Among them: Tarkus, Trilogy, and Brain

Salad Surgery.

An insane touring schedule followed and the legendary scale and musicianship

of ELP’s live show continued to grow. Tired from a grueling four year run which

had seen the release of 5 albums as well as untold hundreds of tour dates, the

band decided to take a hiatus. The material created during this period was the

basis of the ELP albums Works Volume I and Works Volume II, which were

released back to back in 1977. The band continued to tour and record for two

more years, before disbanding in 1979.

Opportunity knocked again for Carl when he was approached to form a supergroup

concept for Geffen Records. Eventually, along with King Crimson

vocalist/bassist John Wetton, Yes/ Buggles keyboardist Geoff Downes and Yes

guitarist, Steve Howe, Asia was born.

The band’s self-titled debut album Asia was released in 1982 and a tour began.

Asia’s debut LP went to number one, selling over seven million copies

worldwide. Along the way singles such as “Heat Of The Moment”, “Only Time

Will Tell”, “Wildest Dreams” and “Sole Survivor” dominated the charts for months.

In 1985, Asia went their separate ways. Carl would spend the next seven years

playing in different combinations of bands with Keith Emerson and some of the

ASIA members. Finally, in 1992, ELP returned with Black Moon. They would

remain together until 1998, and reform for one final appearance in London at the

High Voltage Festival in 2010.

Carl set out on a schedule that included drum clinics, master classes and

teaching children with special needs. In 2012, he became a Fellow at Solent

University Southampton, UK, lecturing in music business classes and career

direction.

In 2001, Carl once again set out to create his own new band with two

accomplished musicians: bassist Simon Fitzpatrick and guitarist Paul Bielatowicz.

Together, they have toured the world as the progressive trio “Carl Palmer’s ELP

Legacy”. The thought of Carl Palmer assembling a progressive trio might seem

like he was relying on formula, especially since the band’s material consisted

mainly of ELP classics, but this was indeed a new direction. Purely guitars-driven,

this band put a new face on the ELP classics, performing them with musical

complexity and a raw energy not heard, since the earliest days of ELP.

In 2006, Carl also regrouped for the long awaited reunion of the original ASIA,

with Steve Howe, Geoff Downes and John Wetton.

To date, Carl has sold nearly 50 million records.

In 2012, Carl was approached by the innovative art company, Scene 4, to do a

series of art images based on his rhythmic and musical ideas. The images are a

unique blend of light, shadow, reflection and musical performance, related his

legacy.

Carl is an avid collector of contemporary art and antiques from all over the world.

His knowledge of contemporary art fuelled his interest in pursuing his own art

projects with Scene 4. To date, he has released two collections: Twist Of The

Wrist and The Rhythm of Light.

Carl Palmer, is returning to the United States for the second leg of the enormously

successful 2016 REMEMBERING KEITH AND THE MUSIC OF EMERSON LAKE &

PALMER TOUR. Originally designed to be a celebration of Palmer’s 50th year in

music, the focus and name of the tour was changed in light of the tragic death of

Keith Emerson on March 11th. Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy will play nearly two hours

and drum enthusiasts can expect an evening of compelling percussive skills, from

the man who brought the drum set to the forefront of rock n roll music.

“…military veterans need the most help to heal physically and emotionally”

For 20 years, I worked with military groups such as the Veterans Assistance Network as a sales consultant for computer products and phone equipment. During this time, I became aware that military veterans need the most help to heal physically and emotionally and I was gripped by a determination to do something meaningful for them.

With my background and experience using holistic, non-invasive techniques to heal illness, I founded Heaven & Earth Oasis, a nonprofit 501 (c) (3). The organization is dedicated to healing military personnel by applying an array of established alternative and complementary methods of treatment that work. Many of the methods we employ, such as Reiki, are now successfully incorporated by military organizations to help heal war veterans diagnosed with combat-related illnesses such as post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

I was diagnosed with a slow-growing pituitary tumor in 2005. Doctors offered two options: try to shrink it with medicine or undergo a dangerous operation. Medications did not shrink the tumor so I researched the best brain surgeons in the country and chose one in Los Angeles. The surgery was successful but not without complications. My lungs collapsed and, similar to symptoms of pneumonia, breathing became very difficult.

I searched and found a professional who could clear the energy in my solar plexus to help me breath comfortably. He was a Reiki Master in Ojai, California who also trained me to use Reiki on myself with excellent results. The inflammation in my solar plexus subsided then disappeared.
