Karen Owen-Lee caught her passion of Gerontology (the study of aging) from her mother, a college professor who started the first Gerontology accredited program at York College of Pennsylvania. Karen completed her Masters in Gerontology from Pennsylvania State University and she went on to work with seniors in five states and over 40 retirement communities. Today, Karen is a keynote speaker, bestselling author, and senior placement expert who has helped thousands of families navigate the endless options of senior care.
Sparked by a lifetime passion for locating housing for seniors, Karen Owen-Lee has established and launched Housing Options for Seniors, Inc. This service offers coaching to locate various housing options within a defined geographical area, care level and budget. Karen offers free placement services to independent living, assisted living and memory care or Alzheimer’s care in the greater Denver area. She also educates seniors and families on the confusing arena of senior housing, particularly Baby Boomers dealing with the fear and anxiety of caring for an aging parent. Karen’s additional skills include coaching, writing, consulting and public speaking. Her effective approach is systematic has been tested for thirty years.
Her speaking performances are presented with a light hearted approach about serious topics. Audiences have been comprised of employees and the general public at Lockheed Martin, City and County of Denver, Denver Senior Coalition, Kiwanis, Optimist, Sertoma, Manor Care, churches, TransAmerica Capital Management, Cambridge Investment Research, Life Care of America and Erickson Retirement Community. The attendees have been overwhelmingly receptive to her practical approaches, particularly Baby Boomers.
Karen has made appearances on Colorado & Company on Channel 9 News in Denver and has had articles published in The Denver Post, L.A. Daily Times, The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin in Ontario, Canada and the Sterling Journal Advocate in Sterling, Colorado.
Karen’s book, 'The Caring Code: What Boomers need to Know About Seniors', is a step-by-step guide for children with aging loved ones. Caregivers must know as much as possible about planning for the future before an emergency or crisis occurs.
