Pennington "Penny" Greene
Pennington "Penny" Greene has spent more than five decades immersed in the game of basketball as a player, historian, entrepreneur, and community leader.
A standout All-Metropolitan player from Prince George's County, Maryland, Greene captained his high school basketball team and gained national attention after scoring 36 points in a performance that earned him the cover of The Washington Post Sports section.
He continued his career at the University of South Florida, where he served as team captain and became the university's first 1,000-point scorer. His accomplishments earned him induction into the University of South Florida Basketball Wall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the program's all-time greats.
Beyond playing, Greene has dedicated his life to preserving and promoting the history of basketball. He is the founder of the Basketball Institute, a nonprofit organization committed to educating and inspiring young people through the game. He also created https://www.dcbasketball.com, one of the nation's leading online museums documenting the rich history of Washington, D.C.-area basketball.
Greene currently serves on the Selection Committee for the DC Basketball Hall of Fame, https://dcbasketballhalloffame.com, helping recognize the outstanding players, coaches, and contributors who have shaped one of America's most respected basketball communities.
