Inspire Possibility Show with Mark Susnow
Guest, Kate Lund, Seven Pillars of Resilience
Kate Lund’s new book, Bounce, although focusing on children, is really for everybody. Resilience in a skill set that we can all develop. Kate Lund gives the tools to do so with the seven pillars of resilience:
Tolerating frustration and managing emotions; Navigating friendships and social pressures; sustaining focus on a single task and a larger goal; developing courage; Building motivation; Building confidence; and Creating optimism. While we might like to think that childhood is all fun and games, the truth is, it isn’t exactly stress-free. Kids have to learn to overcome obstacles even as toddlers, take tests when they’re older, learn new information, change schools and neighborhoods if there’s a move, deal with bullies, and make new friends.
Teaching our kids to be resilient helps them to cope with these changes and stresses that they encounter. And it helps them more appropriately deal with hard emotions and challenges they have. Resiliency teaches kids to be problem solvers in the face of tough situations so they can find a good solution.
As a mother and a psychologist, Kate Lund is deeply concerned about the prevalence of social media, bullying, and anxiety in America when it comes to our kids. In Bounce she shares tips and tools on how to help children deal with anxiety which puts a spotlight on resilience and how it helps students thrive. Resilience is so important because it is what helps children bounce back from challenge and move forward despite the challenge.
Inspire Possibility Show
Genesis
I am naturally curious—curious about how i can make my experience of life more fulfilling and more interesting which has led me down many roads. New destinations, new realities, some amazing people—masters of their game—all preparing me for this moment.
We’ve heard the adage that we teach what we want to learn. I wondered if there were possibilities in my life that I wasn’t yet exploring. With that in mind at the turn of the new millennium I made a leap of faith…from successful trial lawyer to life coach and strategist and InspirePossibility.com was created. That was 19 years ago.
The Inspire Possibility Show was the next step. Each week I have conversations with various cutting-edge thought leaders who inspire, enlighten and entertain us. They inspire us to get out of our comfort zones and to explore possibilities that are out there waiting for us. I invite you to join in.
A Few More Things More About Me.
Being a musician has been and still is a lifelong exploration. Being the author of Dancing on the River: Navigating Life’s Changes and the Soul of Uncertainty, A Fable for our Times, has inspired me to look deeper. Playing sports, since I’ve been a kid has been a mainstay of my life. Through it all being a dad has been most fulfilling.
