STAHR are reaching higher with their explosive track ‘Mother Aura’ (out Thursday, February 26), which comes alongside the announcement of their debut EP ‘BLIP’, slated for Thursday, March 26.

Following on from  their 2025 single ‘Loving Friend’, ‘Mother Aura’ is the next taste from debut EP ‘BLIP’, and continues the genre amalgamation that Brissie/Meanjin duo STAHR does so well. The energetic combination of squelchy dream pop with driving desert-rock creates a commanding sound that is impossible to ignore.

Syncopated bass, lush synths and carefully placed dynamic breaks create a melodic marriage of the best parts of alt-rock and classic pop, delivering the emanation of STAHR’s energy to the world. ‘Mother Aura’ carries itself with a confidence and clarity of sound that elevates it above its counterparts, and shows a musical maturity from the duo.

Crunchy, fat desert-rock guitars meld with contemporary pop in an otherworldly explosion of glittery, supersonic sound. The nonchalant vocal delivery from Grace Harris exudes “cool girl energy”, utilising contrasting restraint and exuberance, carrying the richness of the arrangement and exploding your senses. The bridge fades away to reveal a cascading guitar solo, before launching into a frenzied final chorus, exploding into the stratosphere before coming to an abrupt ending.

“This track explores what it's like to knowingly step into the ego self. It takes a no-holds-barred approach to a night out in Brisbane, where the drinks are flowing, an ex-lover is in every room, and god help anyone who gets in your way,” Sam Shepherd shares, describing the track’s reckless and self-aware energy. “It's a little cheesy, completely self-aware, and the perfect opener to the EP.”

The song also sets the tone for a broader narrative that runs throughout the release. Grace Harris explains that the track marks the beginning of a larger emotional arc.

“It’s the beginning of our own personal BLIP story where, as the bridge plays out, a question begins to unfold. How long can we maintain this façade before we lose sight of the way home?” Grace says, noting the theme reflects experiences Shepherd has carried from his history performing in previous rock outfits.

‘Mother Aura’ reaches even higher with its polished performance, controlled chaos, and genre-defying energy, commanding attention until the very last notes. STAHR are not just a blip on the musical radar, but a supernova about to explode.

‘Mother Aura’ is out Thursday, February 26, followed by their debut EP ‘BLIP’ on Thursday, March 26.
