Life Changes Show Guest, Everett Coast October 17, 2016
Acoustic guitar driven duo of woven voices and fused songwriting

EVERETT COAST (DANNY BYRNE and JOSH MISKO)

Everett Coast, the acoustic guitar driven duo of woven voices and fused songwriting, was founded in early 2011 by singer-songwriters Danny Byrne and Josh Misko. They were introduced by their instructor, mentor, and now close friend, Anika Paris (Warner Chappell / Universal), while attending Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. The two California natives bonded quickly becoming fast friends, bandmates and eventually roommates.

Raised in the small town of Springville, CA, located near the Giant Sequoias in the Southern Sierra Nevada, Misko (vocals, guitars, ukulele) credits his mother for his love of music. At the age of 14, he asked his parents for an acoustic guitar. His mother told him she would only buy him a guitar if he wrote his own music. “I absolutely give my mom 100% credit for why I write the way I do today. She forced me to think outside of the box musically right from the start.” After graduating high school, Misko attended California State University Channel Islands but quickly realized that traditional college wasn’t for him. He packed up and moved to Los Angeles to attend Musician’s Institute in the fall of 2010.

A 4-year-old Byrne (vocals, piano, guitar, bass, drums, production & engineering) always knew that music was the life for him. His parents, however, needed some convincing. “My parents were reluctant to get me started on the piano at such a young age, but even as a 4-year-old, I wouldn’t take no for an answer. I’d jump on the piano bench beside my big sister during her piano practice and turn every note, scale or song into an unwelcome duet. Finally, my parents got me lessons of my own.” In high school, the classically trained pianist from Sacramento picked up the guitar and in college began singing and writing songs. After graduating from California State University, Sacramento with a B.A. in Economics and a minor in Organizational Communications, Byrne decided to move to Los Angeles in the fall of 2009 and follow his true passion for music.

Everett Coast writes and produces all their own original material as well as co-writes across a wide variety of music genres from pop and hip-hop to folk and country. Influenced by such artists as John Mayer, Jason Mraz, The Avett Brothers and Mumford and Sons, Everett Coast creates with the intention to not only stay current in today’s music industry, but to also keep the influence of the greats, such as America, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, The Everly Brothers, and of course, Simon and Garfunkel.

In July of 2013, Everett Coast self-produced, recorded, and released their debut 4-song EP Hey, Hey, California (available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, etc.). From this EP they independently secured Everett Coast Radio on Pandora Internet Radio, and three sync licensing deals featuring their songs “Hey, Hey, California” & “Passing Through” in the independent film Monumental, and “Hey, Hey, California” in a new reality T.V. series Barflies. Additionally, in 2014 Everett Coast wrote & produced the music for Oregon State University’s The Campaign For OSU Thanks Donors Like You commercial.

John Barbours World Guest, Rosie Cutter October 17, 2016
Performance Artist/Astrologer

ROSIE CUTTER is an international performance artist and astrologer. Studying astrology and medicine for 14 years, she came upon the Destiny Card system while living on the island of Kauai, Hi.

Our common day playing cards weren't actually used for playing games until very recently, they are actually the origins of the Tarot and are one of the oldest systems of astrology on the planet.  Every day has a card, and every card has deep layers of meaning.

Incorporating numerology and astrology,  Rosie found her true self through the system, as an award-winning musician and reader.  The system has truly opened her eyes to the realization that all forms of life are interconnected through ancient patterns.  If we merely stop to take the time and reflect, we can see the patterns of energy that affect us and how to use these uncontrollable forces in our world in  a positive way.

Since the discovery of Destiny Cards Rosie has traveled the world far and wide to places like Brazil, Ibiza, Hawaii, and all over America doing thousands of readings and sharing her passion for knowledge that helps people navigate this strange world. Rosie offers integrative readings involving Human Design, Astrology, and Destiny Cards, to see a weather forecast of past, present and future events.   She is releasing an upcoming book and weekly card kit with famed Destiny Cards Author Robert Camp in the fall, and is currently working with clients via telephone and internet from her home in Jackson Hole, Wy.

THE RAY SHASHO SHOW WELCOMES

'GUITAR LEGEND'

DOUG ALDRICH OF 'THE DEAD DAISIES'

With stellar musicianship and pulverizing live shows, fans across the globe are discovering the band that is bringing back Rock & Roll!

He completes a powerhouse lineup that features John Corabi (Mötley Crüe, The Scream), Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake),Brian Tichy (Ozzy Osbourne, Foreigner) and David Lowy (Red Phoenix, Mink).

The current incarnation of The Dead Daisies is part of musical collective created by a rotating line-up that have individually and collectively left their mark on the high-class brand of Rock & Roll the band is known for. The War Report on Public Education Guest, Aixa Rodriguez October 16, 2016
Teacher and Education Activist

Aixa Rodriguez is a Bronx born and bred educator. A passion for working with kids who grew up like her, brought her into teaching. She attended Fordham as an undergraduate and for graduate school. She is a founder of Bronx Educators United for Justice, and a resident big mouth on Twitter and Facebook.

Her goal is to wake up parents, teachers, and students in the Bronx to the systematic disenfranchisement and exploitation they are under, and the intersectional relationships of the social justice issues people are concerned with.

The War Report on Public Education Guest, Dr Mark Naison October 16, 2016
Professor, Political Activist, Author

Dr. Mark Naison is professor of African American studies and history at Fordham University. He is author of many books and articles including 'Communists in Harlem During the Depression', 'White Boy: A Memoir' and his newest book 'Badass Teachers Unite! Reflections on Education History and Youth Activism'. The founder of the Bronx African American History project, Naison has emerged in the last five years as a passionate defender of America's public school teachers and students, founding groups like Dump Duncan, the Teachers Talk Back Project, and most recently, the Badass Teachers Association.. He was a former political activist who was a member of CORE and SDS in the 1960s. He is a graduate of Columbia University and holds a Ph. D. in American History.

He has written over a hundred articles and published three books on urban history, African-American History, and the history of sports. Naison has also appeared on The O'Reilly Factor, Chappelle's Show, and The Discovery Channel's Greatest American Competition. He has also been an outspoken critic of Teach for America.

Naison is co-founder of the Badass Teachers Association, a group dedicated to fighting the Common Core Curriculum and corporate influences on American education. His newest book is 'Badass Teachers Unite! Reflections on Education History and Youth Activism'. In this incisive collection of essays, educator and activist Mark Naison draws on years of research on Bronx history and his own experience on the front lines of the education wars to unapologetically defend teachers and students from education “reform” policies that undermine their power and creativity.

Naison shows how dominant education policy systematically hurts the very children it claims to support and instead forces them to “race to the top.” He exposes the Duncans, Rhees, and Gateses for schemes that intensify racial and economic inequality. And he refocuses the conversation on teaching and organizing strategies that should be implemented in communities everywhere.

Review

“Mark Naison has woven a series of provocative essays into a powerful book. No traditional scholarly treatise, Badass Teachers Unite! is an education manifesto for the people’s school reform movement. With clarity, verve, and passion, Naison outlines the challenges we face in transforming public schools and he forges a guide to our actions. This book is must reading for anyone concerned about the plight of public schools in the USA today.”
—Henry Louis Taylor Jr., director, UB Center for Urban Studies, University at Buffalo

“Mark Naison is a badass—and it took one to write this rousing pronouncement to the militancy emerging among today’s schoolteachers. There was an era when educators were feared by the corporate establishment. As Time magazine wrote in 1963, ‘The U.S. teacher used to be afraid to smoke, chew, cuss or ask for a raise. Now he denounces crowded classrooms, upbraids lawmakers, and goes on strike almost as readily as a dockworker.’ Mark Naison’s Badass Teachers Unite! brings back the attitude we need to confront the corporate reform bullies and reclaim our schools.”
—Jesse Hagopian, history teacher, Garfield High School, Seattle, Washington, and associate editor for Rethinking Schools magazine
Interviewing The Legends Guest, Rich Little October 15, 2016
Impressionist, voice actor, comedian

THE RAY SHASHO SHOW

WELCOMES

LEGENDARY IMPRESSIONIST, VOICE ACTOR,COMEDIAN

RICH LITTLE

A master mimic of more than 200 voices, Little continues to impress with a touring schedule throughout the United States and Canada.

U.S. Presidents: John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, both George Bushes and Barack Obama…Rich Little has a voice for every administration.

Infamous for his skewering of political figures, Little has charmed, amused, intrigued and gotten the best of politicians from here to his native Canada. He entertained at both of Reagan’s presidential inaugurations and got to know the Reagans very well during that time. President Reagan used to tell Little, “You do me better than I do.”

A professed classic movie buff, he’s particularly fond of doing Jimmy Stewart, Jack Lemmon, John Wayne and Humphrey Bogart, but Little has also latched on to baby boomer-friendly characters, such as Paul Lynde, Kermit the Frog, Andy Rooney and Dr. Phil, to name a few.

Some of his favorite current impressions are of stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Jack Nicholson, and Clint Eastwood. “They’re easy to do,” he says. “They are larger than life.”

Little says, “An impression is what you think a person sounds like. It could be an exaggeration or a cartoon. It’s your impression. I think of an impersonation as more of an exact copy. Knowing the person personally is not important; it’s knowing the speech patterns and mannerisms [in order] to imitate the person the way the public sees him.”

The son of a doctor in Ottawa, Little started his “career” at the age of 12 when he answered back to his teachers in their own voices. Observing the teachers in action was infinitely more fun than paying attention to class work. To get dates, he’d find out a girl’s favorite actor, then call her up imitating that actor’s voice. Then when Little showed up, he’d say, “Sorry, Cary [Grant] can’t make it.” This stopped when a girl told him her favorite was Lassie.

Impressions came in handy to Little while working as a disc jockey and talk show host. During one April Fool’s Day marathon, he had “Jimmy Durante” emcee the morning show, “Julia Child” do a cooking show and “Elvis Presley” host a teenage show. Like the infamous 1939 broadcast of War of the Worlds, 500 autograph-hungry Elvis-believing fans besieged the station, thinking the King was really there. When they found out it was Little, the fans started throwing things at him.

Still in his early 20s, Little was discovered while working in the United States. His friend, singer Mel Torme, then on the musical team of CBS network’s The Judy Garland Show, asked him to make a tape. Instead of the usual impressions, Little did voices nobody did, including Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles and Dennis Weaver. Garland thought it was great, particularly his James Mason, and Little was signed to the show.

Appearances on TV variety shows starring Ed Sullivan, Jackie Gleason, Glen Campbell and Dean Martin followed, as well as on series such as Laugh-In, The John Davidson Summer Show and as a regular on The Julie Andrews Show. Little also had his own variety show in the 70s and was the star of the TV show KopyKats. Little was a guest host early on for The Tonight Show, hosting 12 times. He quickly became a household name sitting in one of the Hollywood Squares and went on to do The Muppet Show.

Named “Comedy Star of the Year” by the American Guild of Variety Artists, Little was the perpetrator of nine comedy albums and three HBO comedy specials, as well as the Emmy-award winning specials Rich Little’s Christmas Carol with “W.C. Fields” as Scrooge, “Humphrey Bogart” as one of the ghosts and “Paul Lynde” as Bob Cratchit.

One of his appearances on HBO was as Johnny Carson in the movie The Late Shift, which dealt with the race to succeed Carson on The Tonight Show. Little has appeared on the daytime soaps The Young and the Restless and Santa Barbara. He has made dramatic guest shots on Fantasy Island, Chips, Murder She Wrote,

Little’s expert impressions have also been used seriously, such as the time he stepped in for stars that were unable to do their own re-dubbings on soundtracks. David Niven’s vocal cords were gone due to illness in his last film, Curse of the Pink Panther and Peter Sellers himself was gone by the end of The Trail of the Pink Panther, so Little provided both voices for these films. The television series Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer needed voice-over narrations on three shows, but star Stacey Keach was unable to do them. Little was called in to finish the job. He also did Gene Kelly for a Christmas special when Kelly lost his voice; and more recently, Ernie Borgnine for the animated Cranky’s Miracle after he passed away.

Rick’s greatest fear? A sore throat. “Other people get a cold and they just get a cold. I get a cold and John Wayne gets a cold, Orson Welles gets a cold, Nixon gets a cold and Truman Capote gets the sniffles. I get a cold and it’s all over.”

In June 1998, Little’s star was added to the Canadian Walk of Fame to go along with his current stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Palms Springs Walk of Fame and Las Vegas Walk of Fame; one of the few, if not the only celebrity to achieve all four.

In 2003, Little wrote a one-man play entitled, Jimmy Stewart and Friends in honor of this beloved actor and dear friend.  The story of Stewart’s amazing big screen career, his military record and his family life, including many celebrity impersonations, was met with rave reviews during a decade of touring at performing arts centers..  He’s hoping to have it made into a television special in the near future.

A little known fact about Little is his other talent as an artist.  He started sketching when he was young, drawing his family and friends.  To date, he has drawn around 100 pictures of all the celebrities and politicians he imitates, and portrays several of these life-like charcoal sketches in his shows.

In January 2010, Little became a United States citizen and was sworn in, with a suggestion from the judge to do it as John Wayne! His wife at the time, Marie, also passed away that year. Little later created the Marie and Rich Little Foundation, in honor of his wife, which focuses on helping children, the homeless and animals in need. Rich is also very supportive of Wounded Warriors and causes for the armed services. He proudly has two daughters: Bria and Lyndsay, and a beautiful granddaughter, Alaina. Little has been married four times. He currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. When not working, he spends most of his time with his one-eyed cat, T-Bo.

Little is still currently working on his latest project, “Little by Little” a self-written, humorous show about his life, featuring over 30 characters. Rich also has an exciting new book out entitled Little by Little- Peopled I’ve Known and Been- released in August this year and available to purchase on amazon.

As You Wish Talk Radio Guest, Winston Shrout October 15, 2016
Educator, author, researcher, lecturer focusing on the history, origins and foundational concepts related to commerce.

I have to admit…there are a couple of important life concepts that took me awhile to understand.  First, many of the things we encounter in our lives are not always what they initially appear to be.  And second, discovering the truth about something doesn’t always happen quickly or easily.  Based on personal experience, and many years of observation, these two concepts seem to apply equally to things out in the world as well as people and situations close to home.  Understanding these concepts has played a big part in my growth as an individual and as an educator.

After graduating from college with a degree in psychology – with little hope of getting a paying job – I supported myself and my family by working as a carpenter in the construction industry. For the most part, I enjoyed the work I was doing, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had another “true calling”.  Over time, I began to notice that in my daily interactions with the world of commerce there were many inconsistencies and contradictions. Eventually, I found myself drawn to studying the history, origins and foundational concepts related to commerce.  I began to understand that the commercial world we deal with every day is often not what it appears to be.  And like many things in life that take time and effort to fully understand, at a certain point it became clear to me that my life’s work would focus on helping other people understand the truth about how commerce really works
