Polished and ready to go, Calico City’s upcoming single ‘Gotta Go’ delivers excitement in frivolous motion, due Friday, August 7, as the final single ahead of their upcoming EP, ‘Second In Line’, set for release Friday, September 18.
Calico City, the Perth/Boorloo-based 6-piece alternative rock band originally formed in high school, has spent the past few years dissecting and harnessing their creativity to become keen players within the Perth music scene.
Their mix of reggae and rock has seen them share the stage with bands such as Beddy Rays, Dear Sunday, SOPHIAN, and Birdland - capturing their unique place within the Australian music scene, wielding quintessential Australiana beach-tones and equipping their musicality with a rock edge.
Having grown a local following with their two previous singles ‘Ghost’ and ‘Back in the Before’, Calico City’s next chapter is the upcoming September release of their debut EP, ‘Second in Line’, an EP that circumnavigates the complexities of friendships.
The EP explores the various pathways of friendship; the romantic, the heavy, the messy, the good, and the grey. Through its 6 tracks, ‘Second in Line’ creates the picture of evolving relationships with others and yourself, as you may often find yourself feeling like “lesser priority” or as if you are ‘Second in Line’ in a friendship.
As a final taste before the release of the EP, ‘Gotta Go’ pairs raucous guitars, punchy drums and rich dual vocals with an effortless blend of alternative rock and reggae influences. Balancing driving choruses with groove-laden verses, the track mirrors the push and pull of complicated relationships, as its explosive energy gives way to laidback rhythms that reflect the emotional uncertainty at its core.
Showcasing the chemistry between vocalists Brianne Reyes and Sienna Law, ‘Gotta Go’ is packed with soaring harmonies, memorable hooks and a fiery guitar-led instrumental that highlights the band's tight musicianship.
