Title: S7EP7, Life of a Divorced Kid, Balancing Two Different Worlds with Anthony J Mohr
Summary:
Tony's father was a gregarious, radio and tv star. Tony listened to his voice on the radio at night as he went to sleep. As he got older, he got to know his father better. When his parents divorced, his world shattered. Where was Dad and why was Mom unhappy?
Tony's advice to parents who are divorcing. Get your kids into therapy. They may seem fine on the outside, but on the inside they could be confused, sad, angry, or afraid. Tony luckily had an actor/teacher who understood what he was going through and took him under his wing.
When Tony's parents both remarried, he learned to balance between the two different households. Which was right, better or more desirable?
Read Tony's book, "Every Other Weekend," to learn more about Beverly Hills in the 50's and 60's, life in Old Hollywood, and how Tony navigated between successful Stan and Gregarious Gerald.
Bio:
Author and retired judge Anthony Mohr knew his childhood and adolescence were different from most other kids his age. In Every Other Weekend: Coming of Age with Two Different Dads (Koehler Books), Anthony Mohr offers a poignant and compassionate portrait of two larger-than-life men – his actor father Gerald Mohr and inventor stepfather Stanley Dashew – and what it was like growing up in a blended family at a time when divorce was rare and considered shocking. He would make a great guest on Getting Real With Hilary.
Mohr's days were littered with celebrities and parties; living abroad for film and TV shoots; even appearances in TV episodes, all courtesy of his radio and screen actor father Gerald Mohr. After Gerald Mohr leaves his family for another woman, his mother later marries businessman Stanley Dashew. Delivering a unique perspective on growing up in Beverly Hills in the 1950s and 60s, Anthony tracks his stepfather’s career successes and his biological father’s failures as he tries to find his place in the world. One weekend he’s sailing on his stepfather’s fifty-eight-foot catamaran; the next, his Swedish stepmother tells him that they’re poor. Every Other Weekend sees Anthony finding his place at the edge of what others regard as a dream world, a place where reality and fantasy blend, maps lead to the homes of the stars, and obstacles abound.
