David Biro, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. David Biro received his BA from the University of Pennsylvania, his MD from Columbia University, and his PhD from Oxford University. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn where he was awarded the Alpha Omega Alpha award for excellence in teaching. Dr. Biro has been named one of New York's "Top Doctors" in New York Magazine in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

In addition to practicing dermatology and training dermatology residents, Dr. Biro is actively involved in the medical humanities. He teaches a course in medicine and literature at SUNY Downstate and has published articles in numerous medical journals, the New York Times and Slate magazine. His first book One Hundred Days won critical acclaim and he recently published his second book; The Language of Pain.

Dr. Biro’s first book, One Hundred Days: My Unexpected Journey from Doctor to Patient (Pantheon, January 2000), chronicles his experience undergoing a bone marrow transplant. In January, his second book was released, The Language of Pain: Finding Words, Compassion, and Relief (WW Norton, 2010). His articles have been published in various medical journals as well as The New York Times Magazine, Slate, and the Philadelphia Inquirer.
