Stein is a graduate of Spelman College, in Atlanta, GA where she double majored in Economics and Mass Communication (Clark College). She has a Master of Science Degree in journalism from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. She completed a doctorate in strategic communications at Regent University in December of 2019. As part of her graduate program, she studied the work of C.S. Lewis in 2016 in Oxford, England.

Stein currently serves on the Board of Directors of Play Like a Girl, which focuses on getting young girls interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) projects.
