Dan E. Hendrickson
What is our modern day fascination with Pirates? Dan E. Hendrickson's novel explores the storyline of a female pirate and why we all root for them (guest pitch)

Since the 18th century Pirates have been idealized and romanticized more than any other profession throughout history.

Dan E. Hendrickson's is back with another great storytelling adventure. Brandy: Ballad of a Pirate Princess.

It's one of those classic great stories that makes you just hit the pause button in your life and dive in. Please let me know what you think.

Award-Winning, Best-Selling Author Thrills With Adventurous Tale Of A Pirate Princess

Historical Fiction Book of the Year!

“An appealing pirate adventure.”

--Kirkus Reviews

“Which is exactly what Brandy: Ballad of a Pirate Princess does in ‘kegs.’ Not only is this tale captivating, it also offers gifts to those fans who are looking for everything from historical fiction to adventure to romance to the need to see a female take the lead. … Avast Ye Readers! --Feathered Quill Book Reviews

“Brandy: Ballad of a Pirate Princess is a fascinating read, one that many people should definitely take the time to read. In his book, readers will be able to see these historical events through the eyes of characters that will show a different perspective of, and maybe shed some light on the atmosphere of such an exciting, tumultuous time.”

--OnlineBookClub.org

Can the daughter of slave-trading pirates leave her past behind to find love and happiness? This central theme is explored in the explosive, action-packed Amazon-best-seller, Brandy: Ballad of a Pirate Princess.

“In my stories I like to mix action, adventure, and romance, with real-world issues,” says author Dan Hendrickson. “In some circles I have been labeled a bit of a feminist because I tell many of my stories using a strong female protagonist and show that women make fantastic heroes. To a big degree I owe this enthusiasm for strong female characters to the fact that I have two highly motivated and successful daughters who are my real-life heroes. I also have a son who is an officer in the Unites States Coast Guard and gives me lots of inspiration to write about.”

The book has gained a lot of recognition and positive reviews from the book publishing world and readers alike. Online Book Club ranked it as the Historical Fiction Book of the Year. Scores of readers have noted the powerful appeal of Hendrickson’s novel. One five-star reviewer noted: “Most books about pirates focus upon men and their daring exploits. It was refreshing to see how a strong and resourceful woman could hold her own in that time period and culture. It is a good and enjoyable read.”

In the book, Brandy Erasmus was raised by her notorious parents to be a pirate until they died when she was 15. She then escapes with her uncle to live a life in a port in Jamaica. All goes well until a famous English Navy Captain and his first mate, who are part of the abolitionist movement, come into the tavern one night and turn her life upside down. Brandy never wanted to go back to a life at sea because she now hates her pirate background and the ship she was raised on, but finds herself drawn to the first mate. The pirates were slave traders and therefore in complete opposition to the abolitionists. Circumstances come about where Brandy has to decide to reclaim her parents’ ship and crew so that she can aid her friends and save the man she loves.

Please let me know if you would be interested in having Dan on your program.

Thanks

Adrienne

In an interview, Hendrickson will discuss the following:

·       Why do so many people enjoy a heroine with criminal family ties?

·       The compromising allure of the pirate lifestyle of centuries ago.

·       How we make difficult, soul-searching choices about which path to take in life.

·       Whether we can escape our past no matter how much we change and transform ourselves.

·       Reflections on the global slave trade that pirates were involved in.

·       What we are willing to do for love.

·       How he uses a journalistic style of present tense/third-person to put readers in a you-are-there-as-it-happens vantage point.

·       How he goes about inserting realistic, action-packed fight scenes, based on his martial arts work and having been trained under legendary Hollywood stuntman Bill Shaw.

·       How he blends high-stakes action with human drama.

·       Why he likes to write of big problems that he believes ordinary people can solve.

·       Why he writes of heroes, often imperfect, where they have to overcome flaws, make tough choices, and deal with moral challenges.

More About The Book:

Heroes and villains collide in this swashbuckling romp through historical fiction. Brandy Erasmus is the daughter of the most feared pirate couple of the Caribbean, Eric Erasmus aka The Plague and his wife The Scarlet Mistress. They’ve ravaged the Caribbean in the impregnable ship the Red Witch for over a quarter of a century.

One day, both are killed.

Orphaned and hunted, Brandy escapes with her uncle to hide out in Kingston, Jamaica where she unexpectedly finds peace and contentment helping her uncle run a tavern. Fate has a funny way of turning the table though because a chance meeting with one of Great Britain’s most beloved sea captains and his enigmatic first officer turns her world upside down. Romantic sparks flare and adventure unfolds as Brandy is confronted with a choice to once and for all leave her bloody past behind and embrace a new life that promises love and purpose beyond all her expectations.

But in doing so, she is confronted with the choice to reclaim the ship and crew she left behind and sail into hell to rescue the one she loves and embrace the cause he has already dedicated his life to

Kevin Meehan

Kevin Meehan was faced with emotional trauma, abuse, addiction, and homelessness as a teenager. To inspire others to overcome their challenges just as he was able to do, he has written of these experiences in his memoir, Fallen Peppercorns: Overcoming Child Abandonment, Abuse, Starvation & Drug Addiction To Become A Humble Optimist.

The memoir begins in the 1970s when the lives of five young brothers in Ojai, California, are turned upside down as their family unit fractures under the weight of verbal abuse and depression, which pulls their parents apart. When a priest arrived unannounced to tell them their single mother was admitted to a mental institution, they were put on a Greyhound bus (with few belongings, abandoning their pets) to Clackamas County, Oregon, to live with their father and his new family.

When the boys endure humiliation and neglect to the point of starving by their second family, 13-year-old author Kevin escapes alone and ends up back in Southern California. There he lives in an orchard, stays alive eating oranges, and falls into selling (and using) heroin as an alternative to sporadic back-breaking labor. Somewhere between beautiful, mind-expanding drug-induced experiences, horrific beatings, and sexual assault, Kevin learned to rely only on himself. In the face of despair, Kevin developed a mental toughness tempered with compassion and a deep appreciation for the full spectrum of life’s gifts – without which he would not have survived.

Fifty years later, Kevin has overcome the embarrassment and shame of his experiences to tell his story with a sincere motivation to help others who are having trouble progressing in their lives because of trauma. Kevin’s core belief is that even the most traumatic events are experiences that cannot diminish the beauty and potential held within us unless we allow them to do so. His ability to thrive despite the most horrific childhood experiences offers readers a blueprint to elevate their expectations and redefine what’s possible.

Kevin's use of the metaphor of “fallen peppercorns” (from the ancient tree outside his childhood home) summarizes his perspective: “I think of my brothers and myself, and how we all started out in life no different than the fallen peppercorns, knocked from the tree by bad weather and scattered into the wind. But no matter how many times a peppercorn is crushed underneath a shoe or car tire, it still has the ability to plant its seed and grow. Trials and tribulations, bad weather, and the winds and rains of life make for more resilient peppercorns and more resilient people.”

What’s unique about Kevin is his ability to accept his suffering, and his deep appreciation for life’s challenges which he believes are instrumental in developing the mental fortitude he exudes today. While this memoir primarily focuses on one year in his young life, through public speaking, podcasting, and his integrative medicine practice in Jackson Hole, Wyoming,  Kevin openly shares his refreshing philosophies that challenge our modern culture that seeks fulfillment from external validation, avoidance of pain, and incessant striving for “more” rather than self-love and a deep appreciation for the full spectrum of life’s gifts.

United States

Despite an traumatic upbringing, Kevin Meehan has long since recognized the importance of compassion in helping others, both animals and people. After arresting his own type II diabetes naturally, Kevin became an integrative healthcare practitioner and founded the Teton Valley Health Clinic in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, over 30 years ago. Through this practice he addresses a whole range of issues from acute injuries to chronic imbalances in active people. His curiosity and passion for biochemistry let him design and produce the unique, patented, Meehan Formulations line of supplements - for both people and dogs - that restore health naturally by addressing the root causes of health challenges instead of treating the symptoms.

Kevin has a Masters degree in Oriental Medicine, an Oriental Medical degree and holds a diploma in acupuncture. His Meehan Health Line is a compilation of online instruction/cooking courses that comprehensively examine the root causes of diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, MS, depression, cancers, and heart disease.

People are dying and a little hope can go a long ways. We can do anything we want if we are willing to fight for it. Substance abuse is destroying our country

Eric relapsed in 2013 and went on a six-month frenzied meth binge that nearly killed him. In 2014, Eric went to rehab for 30 days, which was when he realized he would lose it all if he didn’t get clean and sober once and for all. This, in turn, categorically saved his life.

The ensuing years ignited a fire inside of Eric as he began to compose his autobiography and self-help book, Pain, Failure, and Misery are the Stepping Stones to Success in 2018. His profound knowledge and expertise on substance use disorder and how he works with others has always been guided by his deep compassion and understanding of others. Eric now focuses on education as an instructor at a college for people working to become counselors. His emphasis is to create an environment for people to learn tools of healing themselves by focusing on the experts working with them. Eric works to give a voice to those who have died from drug overdoses and advocates for those still suffering by sharing his story of pain and how he was able to use his suffering to achieve the success he never imagined.

Jordan Hampton

I thought your listeners would like  Educator Jordan Hampton and his debut Novel Ignition 2084, it bravely discusses such topics as marginalization  and gives those who are barely heard a voice but does it in a way that will have you at the end of your seat.  Once this book is started it is hard to put down, please let me know if you would like to have Jordan on your program.

                                                                                                                   Best Regards

                                                                                                                          Brittney

In A Breakthrough Dystopian Thriller Set In A Post-Civil War 2 America, Race & Freedom Are Explored

Educator Jordan Hampton's new novel "Ignition 2084 "explores....

What can be done to help society make changes in how marginalized individuals  are viewed and treated.

It will resonate with your listeners , The unfolding of this novel  is quite engaging and the reader will not be able to put it down.

“In this dystopian thriller set in 2084, uneasy allies in a war-devastated America try to defeat a hostile, oppressive group… This dark, engaging near-future tale teems with action and diverse characters.”

--Kirkus Revews

“5-Stars Recommended” Ignition 2084 is an angry beast with a crazy collide-o-scope plot that bristles with intelligence. A kinetic combination of visual style, amazingly detailed characterizations, and original combat tech in ‘Hanzo Gear’ and the Reiloken ‘Aura Sword’ that practically jumps off the page!”

--Book Viral Reviews

Most Americans would agree that they don’t agree on a lot of issues. The Blue vs. Red factions have become entrenched in American politics. Further, the nation feels torn apart on the topic of race and racism. Could these tribunal debates lead to a civil war?

One young novelist, the son of a career military mom, thinks so. He explores America in the chaotic, post-war period in a new book, Ignition 2084.

“The civil war depicted in my book grew out of recent events and today’s mindset,” says author Jordan Hampton, who is a high school English teacher and a certified preacher. “Racial differences, blind political allegiances, and a failure of our education system conspire and contribute to the world that unfolds in my novel.”

His book, which Book Viral Reviews called: “A bold, brutal escapist thrill-seeking read,” features the collapse of civilization and shows how warring factions are left to battle for the fate of a people. This new world order takes place, some 60 years into the future – far enough to seem like a dream (or a nightmare), but close enough to recognize a connect-the-dots scenario to how things are unfolding in our country now.

“This book is designed to do two things:,” asserts Hampton, “to be a love letter to my military background, social connections, and martial arts training, and to open the door for a truly contemplative discussion of national events too easily dismissed as divisive. Too often in the last few years, difficult yet necessary conversations like race relations, political corruption, and healthcare concerns have been dismissed as divisive and many of those who offer solutions are vilified by those too scared to even speak out. Whereas others are afraid to have the conversation, Ignition spearheads it.”

Hampton is available to discuss the following:

How Americans could be heading towards another civil war. What needs to be discussed about race. How his dystopian thriller shows how a nation of tribes can’t survive. What could be done to help bring about societal changes on racism. Why underrepresented voices in literature need to be heard from.If free speech will remain a cherished right. The challenges of teaching high school English in today’s overly sensitive landscape. How a military brat scripted great political and military battles in the book.

If you are interested in having Jordan on your program please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards

Brittney

“Working within a conversational narrative framework,” says Book Viral Reviews, “Hampton proves to be a superb storyteller with Ignition 2084

growing richer with every page. He has a master sagacity of pacing, immersing us into his future world rather than assailing us with non-stop action, and envisioning that world with an architect’s eye for the smallest details with this underpinned by his passion for the martial arts.”

Hampton decidedly wrote a book that would hopefully get people to question the way things are today. in the wake of recent unrest involving Black Lives Matter and the George Floyd tragedy, Hampton, a young Black voice for reason, said he lost a number of friends in 2020.

“I felt betrayed by those who did not understand why I was so fed up with how Black people are treated here,” says Hampton.

“Neighbor turned on neighbor. People distanced themselves from someone like me who dared to engage in a discourse on race. Not talking about something doesn’t solve a problem.”

2020 was a volatile year of rampant disease, political messiness, and the disrupted social plight of minorities. Partisanship interfered with people allowing for the type of open and honest engagement that his book makes possible.

Ignition 2084 features many young black military characters. “Many books still lack representation and diversity, but my story gives them a platform,” says Hampton.

Can America save itself from the type of future depicted in Ignition 2084?

“There’s still time to avert disaster, but the clock is ticking,” warns Hampton. “If we can come together and rally around a consensus, rather than around our tribunal factions that will soon no longer serve us, we can rewrite our script.”
