Jacques is a member of the science board for the French Genopole, based in Every Genopole.com specializing in life sciences and was elected as a Trustee of the Institute for the Future. He has contributed a "Letter from California" column for Le Figaro.

Apart from his work with information technology and finance, Jacques has had a long-term private interest in astronomy, in writing fiction and in the frontiers of research, notably unidentified aerial phenomena. He also serves on the scientific advisory board of Bigelow Aerospace in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was awarded the Jules Verne Prize in Paris for a science fiction novel in French.

Jacques and his family settled in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1969.

Mr. Rosenfeld's story in his testimony before the State of Michigan Committee on Government Operations on Tuesday November 28th, 2006: "I appreciate coming to the great state of Michigan. My name is Irvin Rosenfeld and I am the longest surviving Federal Medical Marijuana patient in the United States. There are five patients currently in the country and there will only be five because the Bush Administration shut down the program in 1992.

I have severe a bone disorder. This caused bone tumors to grow all throughout my body, growing into the muscles and the veins. As a teenager, I had many operations. I was using all kinds of drugs and I was an advocate against marijuana in the late 1960's. Why would a healthy person use an illegal drug when I would hold up my baggie (of pills) and say look at what I have to take, be thankful you're healthy.

I went to college in Miami in 1971 and there, against peer pressure, I tried marijuana and it did nothing to me. I didn't get high, it did nothing to me. People around me were getting high, I thought they were self inducing it. About the tenth time I did it, I sat and played a game of chess for 30 minutes and I hate chess. I used to have trouble sitting and I sat for 30 minutes. That was the first time in 5 years I did that. I had morphine, I had Quaalude, these were all prescription. It dawned on me that I hadn't taken a pill for about 6 hours. This was the first time I had done that in 5 years."

Music has been the reason that I get up every morning (that, and my kids kneeing me in the stomach at 7am). I'm an electric bass player and I've won awards, toured the world many times over, and played a million concerts world-wide. I've played with nearly every great drummer, guitarist, pianist and horn player that are out there today. Many people regard me as the best electric jazz bassist in the world (does this include all the dimensions times infinity?)

One dark cloud was the cancer that overtook my son. When he became sick, I retired from playing and stayed home with my boy to take care of him. In order to make a living, I started The Players School of Music in Clearwater, Florida. This way I could stay in Clearwater and put a little attention on music through the explanation and demonstration of it to my students.

Two good things happened; my son was cured of his cancer, and The Players School has become one of the finest schools to learn how to play bass, piano, drums or guitar. I'm touring a lot, which, after all, is the name of the game. Nothing replaces the experience of reaching for new music every night in front of an appreciative audience. Keep an eye out for us. I tour with Danny Gottlieb on drums (Danny played drums with Pat Metheny for years), Othello Molineaux (the steel drum player who played in Jaco Pastorius' band) and Richard Drexler on piano and upright bass (Richard came out of the Woody Herman Orchestra). It is maybe the smokingest jazz ensemble I ever played in.

I am a practicing fool because I have this really deep need not to imitate as a bassist. I grant you that it is hard to find totally new bass concepts. But, if you don't look for them, then how can you find SOMETHING that is yours alone? I don't have the technique that many young players have today. And so I rely on my imagination to find new ideas that might be impactful to the people who listen to me. I recently found a totally new way to play the bass guitar, a method of playing that has opened many harmonic doors for me. I will showcase this method on a future recording of mine.

Jazz is my passion when I wear the leader's hat. I have found a lot of new ways to approach the electric bass that I am quite proud of. But, as a sideman, I can play funk like a swamp rat sitting on a hotplate, and I can rock like a rotweiller chained up in front of a piece of ribeye. I've been working hard to find a producer with some forward vision of giving the 4 or 8 bar solo on a pop tune to me instead of the guitar or the synth player. But, so far, the concept seems laughable to most producers. "A BASS PLAYER? PLAYING A SOLO? ON A BEYONCE RECORD?" I didn't realize that my instrument, for all the visibility it has achieved over the years, still is not regarded that highy in the music industry. I am out to change this, if I can.

Regarding the fans that I have, I have noticed over the years that fans of rock music often had a broader appreciation of music in other styles than some jazz fans have had. Rock fans have been incredibly supportive of my music and therefore I would like to say Thank You for all you have done and said about my bass playing. This does not go unnoticed.

Author, journalist and TV personality Nick Pope worked for the British government for 21 years, at the Ministry of Defence.  In the course of his career, he served in a number of different posts, but is best known for work that he did between 1991 and 1994, when he was posted to a division where his duties included investigating reports of Unidentified Flying Objects.  The purpose of these investigations was to see whether anything reported might pose any threat to the defence of the United Kingdom, or suggest the existence of anything that might be of more general defence interest.  Most sightings turned out to be misidentifications of ordinary objects or phenomena, but a small percentage remained unexplained.  Contrary to popular belief, there was no definitive evidence that any of these sightings were extraterrestrial in origin.  However, the Ministry of Defence remained open-minded about the possibilities and took no position on the existence of extraterrestrial life. 

Nick Pope was initially sceptical about UFOs, but his official research and investigation convinced him that whatever the nature of the sightings that remained unexplained, the UFO phenomenon raised important defence, national security and air safety issues.  He was particularly interested in cases where the witnesses were pilots, or where UFOs were tracked on radar. 

More recently, Nick Pope has been involved in the programme to declassify and release the MoD’s UFO files and send them to the National Archives.  This involved selecting some cases that would be of interest to the media, making a film to promote the release and giving newspaper, TV and radio interviews to publicise the story.

Nick Pope left the Ministry of Defence in 2006.  He now works as a freelance journalist and media commentator, writing and broadcasting on a wide range of subjects, including UFOs, the unexplained, conspiracy theories, fringe science, defence, intelligence, space and science fiction. 

Nick Pope works with a wide range of film companies, TV networks and production companies, helping develop ideas for new films, TV shows and documentaries.  He contributes regularly to various news programmes, chat shows and documentaries. 

Nick Pope works with various PR, marketing and advertising agencies, promoting sci-fi films and advertising campaigns themed around the unexplained.  He has worked for clients that include Microsoft, 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures and has been involved in promoting The X-Files: I Want To Believe and the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still. 

Nick Pope lectures all around the world and this has included addressing the Oxford Union and the Cambridge Union Society, as well as speaking at the Science Museum, the Royal Albert Hall and Global Competitiveness Forum 2011. 

Nick Pope has written four books, all of which have been published by Simon & Schuster.  His non-fiction books are Open Skies Closed Minds, about UFOs, and The Uninvited, about the alien abduction mystery.  Both books made the Top Ten in the Sunday Times list of hardback non-fiction books, with Open Skies Closed Minds reaching number three and staying in the Top Ten for ten weeks.  These books have been translated into various foreign languages.  Nick Pope has also written two science fiction novels about an alien invasion, Operation Thunder Child and Operation Lightning Strike.  There have been discussions about producing a film or a TV miniseries based on these books.

Roger Nygard was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and grew up along the shores of Lake Minnetonka. His father, Roger Nygard, Sr., was an executive at General Mills in charge of buying the trainloads of grain used to make Wheaties and Cheerios. Nygard graduated from Orono High School, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Speech-Communications from the University of Minnesota in 1984.

Nygard has extensive credits in film and television as a director, writer, producer and editor. He made his foray into the movie world in 1991 when he directed the low budget indie, High Strung, starring comedian/actor Steve Oedekerk, Fred Willard, Denise Crosby, and a very young Kirsten Dunst. The tagline reads: “The story of a guy with a few too many hang ups.” The movie has achieved cult status.

Lots of television and film directing and editing credits followed like Back to Back, which may be best known for having blown Bobcat Goldthwait to bits. It was during this time he that he was developing a reputation for working on quirky and unique projects. He realized he could combine what intrigued him with his “day job” and so Nygard the documentarian emerged as part of the overall package.

Trekkies was the first project to allow Nygard to explore his interest in human nature; people dressing up as fictional characters and extraterrestrials fascinated him. His partner in the project, Denise Crosby, first pitched Nygard the idea. He said, “I couldn’t believe nobody had done it yet, it seemed so obvious.” Trekkies has been described as “affectionate, nonjudgmental” (Hollywood Reporter & Daily Variety), or “terrifying, unsettling” (National Post), depending on who you ask.

He also produced and edited a compelling and offbeat look at UFO enthusiasts (which included writer Whitley Streiber, and nuclear-physicist & ufologist Stanton T. Friedman) called Six Days In Roswell. The film was called “…pants-peeing funny!” by Film Threat Magazine. The car salesman subculture also fascinated Nygard, and he co-wrote (with Joe Yannetty) and directed the outrageous cult favorite, Suckers. The movie stars Louis Mandylor, Lori Loughlin, and Daniel Benzali as one scary sales manager from hell. Suckers is often used as a training film at car dealerships. The Minneapolis Star Tribune said, “…Roger Nygard’s exhilaratingly cynical car salesman film Suckers has the macho punch of a David Mamet drama.”

While tackling feature interests like Trekkies 2, and sometimes lending support to a colleague’s project as an editor or producer, Nygard has directed or edited for an array of television series like: The Mind of the Married Man, The Bernie Mac Show, The Office,  The League, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Zoey 101, Zeke and Luther, etc., as well as directing commercials for such companies as Kia, Boost Mobile, DisneyXD, CBS, TBS, and others. For Nygard it comes down to whether a project is intriguing, funny, or challenging. In the case of his latest film, The Nature of Existence it’s all the above.
