Guest Biography:

Dr. Lorraine Hurley

is the host of Uncommon Awareness.

The shows mission, or objective, is to raise awareness of issues not commonly, or truthfully, reported in the mainstream media or disseminated through the other social institutions that define our day-to-day life. The shows name reflects the following belief; that true awareness is uncommon and that a change or expansion of awareness changes everything. It changes our outlook, our lives, our view on reality and our ability to respond to and engage whatever experience we find ourselves in the midst of. A change of awareness changes everything!

We are in the midst of extraordinary times. What we have been educated indoctrinated or manipulated into believing about the world we live in is being challenged and exposed as a lie of cosmic proportion. This difficult and startling realization is paradoxically a gift. Once we appreciate that we are living in a matrix built on deception, fraud and an insane desire for control we can begin to ask important and relevant questions, we can begin to participate in life mindfully and in empowered ways such that the matrix of insanity is dismantled. In order to exercise our power we must first be aware of how it has been usurped and how we may responsibly and creatively take it under expanded conscious control.

Uncommon Awareness strives to bring guests to the program from extraordinarily diverse backgrounds, interests and accomplishments. There is a huge emphasis on health as it is pretty hard to be aware, awake, conscious and empowered when you don’t feel very well. But we expand the definition of health and we expand the sphere of what is called relevant and reliable information. Health is not just about physical integrity. In addition to nutrition, functional and alternative health practices our show promotes:

  • Awareness of the role of consciousness in the creation of reality
  • Emotional, mental and spiritual awareness, or rather an expanded view of our make-up and abilities
  • The elucidations of quantum physics (gosh I love this stuff !)
  • Ancient wisdom teachings and technologies (love this too!)
  • The extraordinary accomplishments in our world that are never permitted adoption by society and an opportunity to morph our world for the better.
  • The extraordinary abilities that we, as human beings, possess and have yet to develop
  • Ancient healing tools and wisdom being re-discovered and mastered
  • New innovations as keys to acknowledging, challenging and changing paradigms and enabling both personal and collective transformation
  • Dignity and recognition for the accomplishments, potential and vision inherent in the lives and experiences of us all.

Our take on reality is often disturbing at Uncommon Awareness but our goal is not to be another fear-mongering, hand wringing, purveyor of bad news. Our goal is to bring you into an awareness of how you can re-write the script, re-work the experiences of your lives and harvest meaning, purpose and joy out of your daily life.

We wouldn’t be anything without you—the listener. We wouldn’t grow as well as we could without your participation. So please, participate, make your voice and experience known to us. Thank you for your interest in what we are doing!

KATE HOWARTH was born in Sydney, Australia in 1950 and grew up in the suburbs of Darlington and Parramatta, and far western New South Wales. She was forced to leave school at fourteen, due to hardship, and embarked on a didactic education that was followed by an eclectic career, finally working her way to a position where she co-owned and operated Manpower Personnel, a leader in its field.

Following a fall from a train she was forced to retire and began writing her memoir Ten Hail Mary’s in 2002, which in 2008 was short listed the David Uniapon Award for Indigenous Writers. In 2010, it was shortlisted for the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award, and won the Age Non-Fiction Book of the Year. The much anticipated sequel to Ten Hail Marys, titled ‘Settling Day’ published by the University of Queensland Press, is due for release in March 2015.

ABOUT 'Ten Hail Mary's' by Kate Howarth...
Abandoned by her mother, almost at birth, Kate was raised by her volatile grandmother and various indigenous relatives.  Abandoned again by her grandmother when she was just 14 year old, Kate was left to fend for herself. At 15 she became pregnant and was sent to St. Margaret’s Home for Unwed girls, in Sydney.  When she refused to give up her child for adoption she was subjected to relentless intimidation that was tantamount to torture.

Ten Hail Mary’s is a remarkable story of courage and determination survival and hope. Although at times shocking in her frankness, Howarth is never self pitying of bitter. Ten Hail Marys went on to win the Age Non-fiction Book of the Year 2010 and was instrumental in opening the door to a full National Senate Inquiry into forced adoption practices in Australia, that resulted in an apology from the Catholic Church and the Commonwealth Govt of Australia.

ABOUT 'Settling Day' by Kate Howarth

Following on from her award-winning memoir Ten Hail Marys, Kate Howarth's extraordinary life continues in Settling Day.

Thrust out of her son's life while he is still a toddler, teenaged Kate has to rely on her wits and courage to start life anew. Filled with remorse and an unwavering determination to be reunited with her son, so begins Kate's journey as she fights injustice and prejudice to create a better life. She amasses a fortune helping to build one of Australia's most successful recruitment companies, only to lose it all in a legal battle. Kate once again manages to rebuild her life after a major injury, but is always haunted by her lost son.

Settling Day is a remarkable story of resilience that highlights the still prevalent injustices that many women face at work and at home.

The identity of this mysterious visitor was never discovered. Over 100 years later, three internationally renowned researchers set out to Van Meter; shining their own light on this amazingly bizarre case. Filled with eyewitness reports, historic photos, and current accounts of the paranormal, this in-depth book looks to discover what really happened in the town of Van Meter.

ABOUT How America Was Lost: From 9/11 to the Police/Warfare State by Paul Craig Roberts

Even as the view of America as a rogue state consolidates abroad,Americans appear largely bystanders at the spectacle of their government running amok. People forget the myriad instances of their government's flouting of the Constitution and international legal norms-- if ever they were aware of them in the first place--accepting to live in the increasingly pernicious "new normal" with little protest. This remarkable anthology of columns documents and reminds us of the extraordinary developments that, in their accumulation, have led to the destruction of accountable and moral government in the US.

Few American commentators have cut more clearly through the deepening deceit, hypocrisy and outright criminality that has infested official Washington since 9/11 than Paul Craig Roberts. His scathing critique sheds much-needed light on the country’s impending nightmare—economic collapse, internal repression, ongoing wars, and rising rejection by friends and foes alike. America’s fate was sealed when the public and the anti-war movement bought the government’s 9/11 conspiracy theory. This defining event of our time, which has launched the US on interminable wars of aggression and a domestic police state, is a taboo topic for investigation in the media.

Trillion dollar wars have created financing problems for Washington’s deficits, threatening the dollar’s role as world reserve currency, and putting Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block. These protections are called “entitlements” as if they are some sort of welfare that people have not paid for in payroll taxes all their working lives. With over 21 per cent unemployment, with American jobs, GDP, and technology having been given to China and India, with war being Washington’s greatest commitment, with the dollar over-burdened with debt, with civil liberty sacrificed to the bogus war on terror, the liberty and prosperity of the American people have been thrown into the trash bin of history.

The militarism of the U.S. and Israeli states, and Wall Street and corporate greed, will now run their course. “How America Was Lost" marks Roberts as one of the most incisive and courageous moral commentators in America today.

Guest Biography:

A born and raised California sea lady, singer/songwriter Kaylinn Douthett began to record her melodies in her modest homemade studio on the Central Coast of California. Drawing influences from all that is around her, her style is somewhat stripped down, simple and refreshing in this day and age. She focuses less on polishing imperfections, and more on embracing the pure emotion and delicate feelings that emerge in new ways each time she sings a song. She calls herself The Carpenter’s Wife, and is accompanied by many other musician friends that contribute their individuality to create a unique blend of folk music. Layering sound, losing control, aiming to capture serendipity, and celebrating that moment when they feel like they do indeed capture it. Serendipity that is. Everything in its right place. Eventually.

Timeless, fluid, and fun nonetheless– that is The Carpenter’s Wife.
