The Real Meaning of 2012

(What’s Old is New Again)

[snips]

...pantheism.  A recurring religion, it winds its way in and out of popularity down through the centuries.  We see it underpinning eastern philosophies and belief systems (e.g., Hinduism, Buddhism). Historical analysis traces its system of belief all the way back to ancient Babylon...

Pantheism is actually a mystical misnomer, a word that sounds like something it’s not.  The word is composed of two elements, “pan” (referring to the Greek god of nature), and “theism” (the belief in a personal God)...

When the two elements of the term Pan-theism are associated, it connotes a personal God “assimilated into nature,” where nature is not only divine, but conscious, willful, and self-directed.  This idea exceeds what we infer by “personifying nature” with the term, “Mother Nature,” an attribution which implies little more than “laws that guide natural processes.”  When we invoke this phrase, we don’t think of nature as a living person on the same level of humans.  Yet the “mysticism” embedded connotatively in the word pantheism, seems to inflate nature into something that is intentional and goal-directed...

The New Age Movement

In the 1980’s, the old shoe became new again.  Pantheism shape-shifted and assumed the better recognized form:  The New Age Movement.  Here, we encounter yet another misnomer.  The New Age is anything but new.  The New Age viewpoint builds its not-so-systematic thinking on top of Theosophy, which itself is based on Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism.  Its thought-leaders did little more than take an arcane version of esotericism and “Americanize” it...

But what is the specific link between the New Age and 2012?

The Mayan Calendar, Mayan Religion, and 2012

The Maya are indeed our ancestral “rock stars.”  Today we see them as great astronomers and seers into our future, resulting from their amazing knowledge of the stars and their ability to develop a solar calendar that is actually slightly more accurate than our own (recall that ours is the Gregorian calendar, characterized by having a February 29 every fourth year, the so-called leap year)...

But were the Maya truly wise men – spiritual gurus whose advice we should take to heart?  Did their methods warrant so much attention as they’ve received in the past two decades?  Can we trust what they tell us about the future?  More to the point, why did 2012 become the point of debate?  What caused the Maya to pick this date?...

...is there really more to the story than star gazing and calendar keeping?  Aren’t there spiritual implications to the date of December 21, 2012? Moreover, do 2012 enthusiasts actually share the same religion as the Maya, or are they really just projecting their beliefs upon them?  Are the Maya merely unwitting historical “silent partners” being used to substantiate the current version of New Age religion?...

It’s true that the 2012/new age credo shares with the Maya a view that humans can connect with the divine and obtain supernatural consciousness.  However, given the circumstances of their bloody human sacrificial rituals, we must ask:  “Didn’t this connection with the divine extend only to their priests and Kings?...

Hallucinogens and the Maya

It’s an accepted fact amongst today’s Mayan experts that the Maya had to have exceptional assistance to be so cosmically tuned in.  It’s not hard to discover the sources of this assistance.  Mayan hieroglyphs clearly picture them.

The first helper was the magical mushroom.  The Psilocybe Mexicana was the primary drug of choice.  The second facilitator was venom (dried and detoxified) from a particular toad (the Bufo marines of North America)...

There are connections to other world religions – expressly those that do not share the Judeo-Christian (or Islamic) worldview.  The ability to see entities or objects from another realm, to tell fortunes (divination), to travel through time, and to project one’s consciousness into a distant place (on the earth or elsewhere in the universe), are all phenomena typically associated with the occult...

It is worth noting that during the past 50 years, both the American and Russian military have been conducting experiments on all sorts of mental telepathy and consciousness travel.  The latest version of the Indiana Jones movie series, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull (2008) included this fact in its plot line.  The movie, Men Who Stare at Goats (2009), may have a silly name but it reflects true history...

...not only will we once again see a common denominator of drug usage to induce the trance state.  Additionally, we will see the common practice of “channeling” (aka mediumship) – which is an intentional “giving up” of one’s faculties to allow an “other-worldly” personality to take control.  These techniques, like the higher consciousness dogma itself, aren’t Judeo-Christian friendly.  Indeed, they are expressly prohibited by the Bible.

As we look at other historical “users” of such techniques, the sinister nature of the search for higher consciousness becomes even more pronounced.

In the next article, we will focus on Theosophy and its Influence on Nazism and “hard-core” New Agers who still campaign for “The Plan” as part of their 2012 talking points...
