CHICO’S FAVORITE BANDS UNITE FOR ‘BRING GERARD HOME’ BENEFIT CONCERT

January 23rd Concert Line-up Supports Chico Film-maker & Journalist Shockingly Denied Re-entry into U.S. after 20 Years of Legal Residency

CHICO, CA – January 18, 2011 – Family and friends of Gerard Ungerman today announced that some of Chico’s favorite bands and musicians are uniting for a special benefit concert, ‘Bring Gerard Home’, taking place on January 23rd at 5:00 p.m. at the Chico’s Women’s Club (http://on.fb.me/ihTEgR).

What:
The benefit concert features a line-up that has something for everyone: folk, Americana and rock, including local favorites Waltzsaulsnake&stein, Thick & Thin-Musical Relics and Rarities, Barbara Manning, Karisha from MaMuse and Airplane. A no-host bar, food and silent auction will round out the fun.

The benefit comes at a critical time, as Chico resident, award-winning film-maker, journalist and community activist Gerard Ungerman, and his family, struggle to meet a tight deadline to raise $10,000 for legal fees in order to fight his denial to re-enter the U.S. As French-born Gerard Ungerman visited Paris last month, the re-entry denial came as shocking news to loved ones left behind in Chico, including his life partner and her two young girls, one of whom was struck with a serious illness during his absence. Gerard had been living in the U.S. legally for 20 years.

Who:
The benefit concert is open to all ages and holds special appeal for anyone who supports the arts, democracy and families suffering an unbearable crisis – that of separation.

Why:
Gerard’s life partner must remain in Chico due to custody arrangements and Gerard is currently battling a potential 10-year ban from the U.S. Meeting the fundraising goal of $10,000 for legal fees is urgent because the appeal deadline is only weeks away.

When:
Sunday, January 23, 2011
5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Where:
Chico Women’s Club
